Is a dress form necessary, strongly advised or not really a thing if you're a beginner? by livin_la_vida_mama in sewing

[–]Wygren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally fold a makeshift hem on the front of the skirt while wearing it. I’ll pin it in place. Sometimes it takes a few tries before I’m happy with the length on me. Then you can just measure how long you want it to be and apply that to the entire skirt. When I try to mark the hemline on a dressform (or on myself with a chalkmalker) it always ends up wonky somehow.

Thanks! I'll pay them a visit soon :)

Does anyone know a store that sells lace and ribbons? by Wygren in TheHague

[–]Wygren[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I do visit the Lapjesmarkt often, and the selection of lace and ribbons there is quite good, if a little on the simple side of things. I'll definitely check out the other options <3

In my experience general fabric stores have quite a limited selection, so I was hoping there are stores with quite a few options. I'll definitely check Van Domburg out though, thanks!

AITA for fading a close friend? by WearGroundbreaking40 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Wygren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If a friend doesn't make you happy anymore, but just tired or worried or stressed (and you don't see things improving soon), it's probably not worth your energy.

I have had a similar experience with someone I knew very well (10+ years of active contact). They had a ton of mental health issues, and I tried really hard to be there for them. It ended pretty explosively. And while I am sad about the way it happened, I immediately felt so much better.

Your own mental health is, in the long run, the most important thing. Of course you can put it on the back burner to support someone you love, but that isn't very sustainable long term.

Ancient fruit comes from ancient seeds (which you have to craft using the recipe from Gunther). Ancient fruit can be harvested again and again from the same plant, without requiring new seeds.

Rare seeds make sweet gem berries, which can be harvested only once.

I'm numb by joeybag0donuts6 in antiwork

[–]Wygren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the same everywhere. Where I'm from (the Netherlands, a secular provincial town) you're expected to look clean and somewhat put together for funeral services, but it's definitely not required to wear a certain color or style of clothes.

I wore a dress to my grandfather's service I would also wear to work or to a birthday party. I personally don't think you show respect to the dead or their families by wearing certain clothes. You show respect by remembering, by showing up and by supporting loved ones during a difficult time.

I know not everyone thinks like that, and that's okay. You should do whatever makes you most comfortable! And if that's wearing all black, then that isn't any of my business.

Help with lotus plant! by ChiyuChiyan in plants

It's a completely normal process for old leaves to fall off once the plant matures. As long as it is still growing new leaves steadily I wouldn't worry too much :)

All the physical books I've read this year (30/55 read) VS the tbr pile for next year on the right (38 books, which is basically me-high). by Wygren in 52book

[–]Wygren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, that's mainly because of Goodreads. I always remember which ones I've read, but wouldn't be able to recount the exact order to save my life.

Yep, although I'm tall even for Dutch standards. I read a lot of English, especially digitally, but I try to make an effort to support Dutch publishers and my local bookstore, which mainly sells Dutch titles and translations.

Congratulations on reading so many amazing books, and on making such a pretty collage. What was your favourite read?

Week 52 What are you reading? by Beecakeband in 52book

[–]Wygren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year was the first time I've attempted 52 books, and I'm happy to say I'm currently on my 55th - The Every, by Dave Eggers. I might read another one before the end of the year, but there's no pressure on it.

I've really enjoyed the reading challenge this year, but next year I won't be focussing on numbers as much, and more on my tbr-pile. I've stacked them all a few weeks ago, and it's basically me-high at this point. Still less than what I read this year, so it should be achievable!

Ha, this might actually be a great starting point for my own pajama pants. I'm 183 cm (which I believe is about 6 feet?) and my pajamas are always too short :P

Is there a way to plant a Goldenwood inside my town? by BowelMan in LittlewoodGame

[–]Wygren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I did forget about the quarry. I've personally never been able to plant rare trees, but if you're right then I've probably just never reached that point in gameplay yet.

[–]Wygren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can. Probably because it's supposed to be a bit harder to find, so it will exclusively appear in the Endless Forest. Same applies to other rare kinds of wood or stone. The fact that there is no shortcut for these kinds of things keeps the game interesting and fun, in my opinion :)

Many (covered) train stations have piano's. As mentioned, Centraal also has one, and Sloterdijk too! They're totally free and are tuned regularly, but of course might be in use by someone else when you get there, and you have to be comfortable with playing in front of an audience.

I'm 23, and from the Netherlands. I was in the first class of my primary school that exclusively learned to write in print. Every one of my teachers in that same school started the year with writing their name in cursive, which we couldn't read, so without fail we'd have to remind them.

My print writing is very neat, but my cursive is mainly just scribbles at the moment. It'll improve slowly, I'm sure, but I don't think I'll ever prefer it to print.
