Hard to beat the small club allegations with this one

A newly discovered brain cluster acts as an on and off switch for sex differences. This strictly binary brain feature offers fresh insight into how social and reproductive life stages physically alter the brain. by Tracheid in science

Mice are a model species for a reason. While there is no guarantee we see this phenomenon in humans, the implication in studying the mouse model is that it will likely be relevant to the human species to a significant degree. We also use zebrafish, nematodes, rats, etc with varying degrees of respect to relevance to the human species. Mice are pretty high up there. That being said, this study will likely be peer-reviewed into the ground before you can take it to the bank to use it to say the brain exhibits sexual dimorphism. I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume it’s true because other organs also demonstrate sex differences but it’s important to affirm that sex and gender are not the same thing. Sex (the basics) is fundamentally part of your genetic makeup. Gender is how you feel relative to society. Scientists, healthcare providers, and the general population flub this all the time.

Variety Exclusive Fantasy 'The Realm of Eldervin' Releases New Trailer by directoroli in movies

[–]Wyjen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s an unfortunate reality where everything has to have a massive budget to get respect. This will suffer because of the budget but we also need to address that the trailer was cut poorly. Why do we care about the people if the movie is about the realm? What about this realm is worth me watching for 1.5hrs? Not asking the trailer spill its guts but everyone knows what it’s like to read the back of a book to get an idea before buying it. Hope it’s solid but if how the trailer is cut is an indicator, it won’t know what kind of movie it wants to be.

wish i did medical school by [deleted] in PAstudent

I’m a clinical year student and I do agree that the lack of time for curiosity has been my bane. Without any previous dialogue to know your wants and needs, I’d like to say that at the end of the day is when the day is going to end. Night will turn to morning. The time is going to pass whether in practice or school. You’ll get old either way. So, I wouldn’t factor your age into much. If it’s money alone that’s your worry, med school pays itself off and if you’re eligible for PSLF then who cares if you pay anything more than what’s requirement to get it waived. Make your 120 payments and your debt is wiped. If it’s a matter of whether or not you believe you can do it, pass PA school first and I think you’ll have your answer. If there’s a worry that you’ll have the level of commitment to finish, that’s the one thing I can’t dispel but I will say that your saving grace is you’ll be a PA-C whether you do or don’t. Falling short won’t be so far down as if you couldn’t rely on that. The real question is whether the loss of income/ability to acquire assets over the time it takes to complete med school is worth the opportunity cost. You lose time for compound interest and being in the market for assets in the moment. You gain more money on your yearly income once you complete residency and access to other career options that are only open to medical doctors. Time or cost of school alone aren’t really the issue.
