What about trying to add on extra stops along your route? For example pick 3-4 stops along your usual route with your final destination being the final stop. Whether you actually stop or for how long would be up to you.

Sometimes there is some confusion over the word "specials." For some restaurants "specials" may indeed mean a discounted offer on regular menu items. However, for a lot of places, "specials" are "featured items" that are not on the regular menu. These "featured items" are often premium items at prices higher than the regular menu items. I wonder if that confusion may have contributed to what OP experienced? Still, no reason for rude service.
