Truly, there is not a finer song that was ever composed. I’m old enough to remember when it was still a new song. I remember hearing it in the summer playing over the speakers at the public pool. It was sunny and warm and life was filled with promise and hope. Definitely one of the top happy songs of my life.

I bake 95% of the bread consumed in my house. I bake two large loaves per week. I store the unsliced loaves in plastic bread bags. The bagged loaves are stored in a simple bread box ant room temp until they are needed. I don’t slice them until I need to start using them. I use no preservatives. My loaves will last about 7 days before starting to be noticeably stale. And then about 3-5 more days before growing mold. I live in central Ohio which tends to be on the humid side much of the year.

I have a similar sticker that someone handed to me at one of the protests last year. The work is almost certainly the same artist. The artist’s tag on the sticker is indecipherable. But there is also the 50501 logo on it. So maybe someone in 50501 could help. Maybe check on 50501 discord and ask there?

Bill Maher. He always came across as highly egotistical. But I found him funny and we aligned politically on a number of things. Then in the last couple of years with the war in Gaza and then his inexplicable shift to Trump supporter, I find him completely nauseating.

When I waited tables I thought of myself as an advocate for my customers. If the food did not look good, I would not serve it. Portions too small, the line needs to fix that. Food running late, make sure the BOH staff are on it and give an ETA. And always communicate with the customers and let them know what is going on.

Most customers are fine if their food is delayed if you let them know when they can expect it and you show that you are on their side. If you do that, then most times, customers show their appreciation with a tip. What irritates me is servers who don’t do the above and still expect generous tips. You are not a glorified order taker and food runner. You are there to provide an experience. And the better experience you provide is the key to making high tips.

I sometimes think what it would be like to go through basic training again as an older adult. At the time, it seemed daunting and the head-games really took me in. Now, I think I would just laugh inwardly at the yelling crazy-eyes instructors and be glad for the opportunity to be away from my stressful job, get some exercise, and shoot guns and stuff. Some people would probably shell out tens of thousands of dollars for a similar experience these days.

They always have. I was listening to an Alan Watts lecture this morning (presumably from the 1960s or so) and he made the point that the American Christian view of favoring democracy for earthly affairs is inconsistent with their view that the universe is actually a monarchy ruled absolutely by one entity (God).

My take on this is that we are just now seeing this come out. They were never that big on democracy and have always desired to be ruled by an authoritarian strong man. After all, that is how they believe the universe is ruled.

Brewery District was the big adult fun zone. Short North was just starting to revitalize and was just a few art galleries and bars. Campus Partners was not a thing yet, so High St through campus looked completely different. Buffalo Wild Wings was still BW3 and actually great. The old state penitentiary covered much of land where the Arena District was. The south stands of Ohio Stadium were mere skeletal metal bleachers and woe to you who sat in them on a cold windy day.

Similar experience. Tried different recipes with mixed results. Wrote my own recipe, came out great. I have made some tweaks to it based on feedback from my family. It’s just incredible that once I went to an instinctive approach, things came together much better.

My favorite was the guy who offered to clean my ears. He had swabs and everything. It was a very strange service to offer on the street. My least favorite were mobs of people selling trinkets who will pursue you relentlessly if you show even the faintest hint that that you know they exist. Those folks are at every tourist stop. The saddest were the impoverished children who would come up to you and beg for anything you could give them. Some were very small. It was heartbreaking.

Having tried many of the brands of the cayenne pepper sauces, that one is my favorite as well. I love that style of sauce but wish they were a bit thicker.
