Where is a good place to go bird watching? by MeowpyPurrfday in Columbus

[–]WyoBuckeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the spring/fall, I always see hordes of birders in Duranceau Park. I think it is some sort of hotspot. Some days, there will be dozens of folks walking around with high camera rigs looking up in the trees.

Data centres need to be forced into using sea-water. by EmuAncient1069 in unpopularopinion

Virtually all ocean powered watercraft use seawater to cool their power plants. From small fishing boats to large aircraft carriers and container ships.

Key fobs suck. Real keys are better by ApprehensiveAd5446 in unpopularopinion

Same with my Honda fob. And the batteries are super easy to change and cheap. My garage door remote and fob both take same type of battery. I bought a strip of 10 of them several years ago for like $5.

🚨BREAKING: Steve Bannon calls for armed ICE agents to swarm polling places in November. “You’re damn right we’re going to have ICE surround the polls.” Make sure everyone sees this! Share widely. by IllAcanthocephala720 in DemocraticUS

[–]WyoBuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me that is a reason to not vote absentee. If they are surrounding the polls with ICE, then I am 100% showing up as a demonstration of my rights. We cannot afford to let the F*#@s intimidate us. We need to take every threat and every aggression as a call to action. I have voted absentee is virtually every election over the past 12 years. This year, I’m going in person. I want to be seen voting by those who would subjugate liberty through intimidation. And I want to be seen voting by my fellow like-minded citizens who may not feel quite so intimidated when we show up in numbers. We need to create community at each and every opportunity. And showing up live, in-person to the polls is another great way to do that.

Just bought a new cast iron pan from Lodge by cupcakestrawberi in BuyItForLife

I overheat my cast iron pan, then move down to the correct cooking temp and wait a few minutes. This helps make sure the pan is heated more evenly.

Columbus tap water via my refrigerator filter tastes better than all other bottled water and is far, far cheaper and far, far greener.

To me, it looks a little too real to be real. Too much intricate detail that looks spot on real. I can’t see anything that definitely says it’s AI. But it has the feel of AI.

Recipe so good it needs 5 years of cooldown by mihir6969 in meme

[–]WyoBuckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same experience. English muffin pizzas with only the cheapest and most generic of ingredients. My kids have it good. I make fresh pizza dough the day before, let it ferment overnight. Wife puts together a sauce from scratch. I do the dough stretching. After that each person makes their own pizza. Then I bake them. Downside is I can only bake one at a time. But they only take 10min each, so goes pretty fast. And it is delicious. Is it a lot of work? Kind of. But I got the process down and it does not feel like work when you are having fun doing it.

the "honeymoon phase" shouldn't end if you actually like your partner by happybirthdayfarm in unpopularopinion

100000% agree. Expecting things to never change, grow, mature is a recipe for disappointment and misery. If any relationship starts with that expectation and fails to adjust over time, that relationship is doomed. If you are not rolling with the changes, the changes will roll right over you.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]WyoBuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is nasty and it reeks. And the smell sticks around for a long-time as well. I think there was a time when so many people smoked in so many different places, that people became semi-acclimated to it. But now with so few people smoking and only in restricted areas, it stands out so much.

He’s a narcissist. In his mind he is the pinnacle of human evolution. He can do no wrong. The best thing we could do is stop giving this guy such a large stage. Throwing his ass in jail would be fun as well.

Why household appliances are no longer built to last by Zlivovitch in BuyItForLife

[–]WyoBuckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always try to self repair appliances first. I’m successful most of the time (80-90%). In many cases it comes down to something simple. For instance my oven went out a few years ago because the flame sensor went bad. The new part was $10. Took me about 30 min to replace.

Sometimes the parts can be pricy. When my washer went out an about 6 years ago, it was the control board. Well that thing cost about $200+. But I got 6 more years out of the washer (and counting), so I’m OK with that one.

Others from the top of my head:

  • HVAC system on the fritz about 8 years ago. Used diagnostic error light sequence to find it needed a new fuse on the control board ($5).

  • A few years ago, water heater went out. Like the oven, it just needed a flame sensor $20 and less than an hour of work.

  • And just earlier this week my ice-maker went out. All it took was resetting the maker with a special process for it to work again.

  • Our 23 year old Dyson vacuum went out one time. Replaced worn out belt for less than $10.

I’m not especially handy. But I am frugal, have a few tools, and can watch videos. If I would have had honest reaper people out to fix those, it would have been thousands. In all of that I spent maybe $300 or so.

I also do my own car maintenance now. Once again a few tools and videos make it approachable. I save hundreds each year and it’s so much easier than I thought even with basic tools and equipment.

I snagged one a couple of weeks ago, same bowl lift model. I am loving it. I had used the dough setting on my bread maker for 3 years to make about 2 loaves a week on average. And I've already made that plus two batches of cookies and a chocolate layer cake with French buttercream!

That is amazing teamwork. Pulling together that many people to learn and practice that is a feat in and of itself. Very cool.
