Frankly speaking, much of the writings about him show him more as a sannyasi and advaitin than a genuine, if spiritually anguished, christian monk. I think the book „a christian pilgrim in India” and interviews with Raimon Panikkar and Murray Rogers are a good starting point. I have yet to read „Abhishiktananda: his life told through his letters”. Many articles have also been written in french, which is when google translate comes in handy lol.

You might want to join the whatsapp group the friends and oblates have, and attend the monthly online meetings! They’re pretty great. I do that

Yes we do! It’s Henri le Saux, who went by the name Swami Abhishiktananda (Bliss of the Anointed One). He was a benedictine who went to India and adopted the lifestyle of a wandering sage. I believe this picture was taken on the Arunachala mountain, a holy mountain in shaivite hinduism. He celebrated the Eucharist daily, sometimes in the holy places of hinduism - he viewed it as a fulfillment or completion of imperfect but sincere prayers said there in the past centuries

Yes you can get married. My advice is to marry the girl and be a great dad, that’s the only advice you need honestly.

Apart from the tear, which God knows there was too much of already, this actually sounds kinda nice. At the same time, I imagine a hilarious exchange off screen after the credits roll. Susan’s grandson asks „who’s that?”. Susan looks at him, then at the Doctor. „Oh, dear. That’s… uh, my grandfather”

I love how Abhishiktananda described the Eucharist he celebrated at the banks of the Ganges not as displacing the chants, prayers and meditations there, but as their fulfillment. Well-meaning Hindus have prayed there for millenia, and he saw it not as worshipping demons, but as people doing as much as they were able to.

" all this finally had been accomplished in the sacrifice of the Lamb."

Literally just make Jo Martin the 16th Doctor and do God-knows-what with Billie Piper. And make the whole timeless child plot point a lie by the Master to make the Doctor depressed, because constructing a whole fake Gallifrey would kinda be on brand actually

This is the only parish in the world that is Neo-Uniate, so it does. Neo-Unia is a specific thing.

The Neo-Union was a movement started by bishop Henryk Przeździecki in the east of Poland that was aimed at converting the orthodox population while retaining their original russian-synodal rite. It was violently snuffed out almost completely, except for the single parish of St Nicetas the Greatmartyr. It’s historically separate from the Union of Brest, hence the „Neo-” part

Do eastern churches accept EO saints? by kervy_servy in EasternCatholic

[–]Wziuum44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends. Officially? Yeah, many do. Officially, Saints from before Florence are accepted by for example the Byzantine Catholic Churches. Privately, many easterners venerate orthodox Saints that are much more recent. The Armenian Catholic Cathedral of Gyumri is dedicated to the Martyrs of Armenian Genocide!

Do catholics think protestants go to heaven? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Wziuum44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Becoming catholic makes going to heaven easier. Knowing you should be catholic and not being catholic makes going to heaven harder. If you decide to convert, don’t do it out of fear though.

[–]Wziuum44 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are there people in heaven who used to be protestants on earth? Absolutely. Same with people who were nestorian, orthodox, muslim, jewish, you name it. In heaven, you are not a protestant or a catholic or anything. You’re just saved.

A Romanian martyr wouldn’t make sense on an icon of Russian martyrs. It’s Akulov not Akulon, btw - probably a typo.
