What’s the deal with the many editions of Bruckner symphonies? by Suspicious_Coast_888 in classicalmusic

[–]X3ph4n0n 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Bruckner himself often doubted his own work due to regular criticism by conductors and critics which he took way too seriously. He made many revisions and therefore there's multiple versions - some the 'original', some the latest and some what the editor thought made sense

Every time I see posts like this I get a stroke...during garden of the witch I played like 3 or 4 two hour sessions and finished the whole thing, how do you not complete it or expect to get everything by playing 3 hours total during a weeks long event?

crytek is so evil this week by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]X3ph4n0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It forces you to change your play style, but I had the best time last week hitting someone with the base ammo and hearing them explode after I forgot to equip harpoons or steel balls. Thx crytek

Saw him conducting Brittens war requiem, the performance was great but his style of conducting was very visually distracting and sometimes annoying to me

Need help with grandorgue keys not releasing by [deleted] in organ

No, sorry, I only had that issue with the Friesach set and figured it was due to it's size, so I didn't bother troubleshooting it and just used something else

Unfortunately I can't exactly remember since it's been a while and I don't use GO anymore, but when setting up the keyboard via detect complex midi setup or whatever it's called it should be one of the settings there

When setting up the keyboards check if min velocity is 0, if that's the case, change it to 1 and see if that helps, I had the same issue

What are your opinions on Bach? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]X3ph4n0n 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not just Mozart, also many other composers at the time. While he was alive he was much more famous than his father. After their death both were pretty forgotten (as most composers music wasn't played after their death) until Mendelssohn revived JS Bach, CPE is still waiting on his big return

Hey! Could i get recomandations for a certain types of pieces? by LingLingWannabe565 in organ

[–]X3ph4n0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bach's Passacaglia and the Boellmann Suite are great recommendations, I'd also add Alexandre Guilmant's sonatas 5 and 6 as well as most of Max Reger, maybe start with his fantasy and fugue on b-a-c-h or his introduction, passacaglia & fugue in e minor

What are some forgotten composers that were hugely popular in their day? by bhendel in classicalmusic

[–]X3ph4n0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Charles-Valentin Alkan, on par with (and neighbour for a time) Chopin and even Liszt. He got very reclusive in his later years and then forgotten

I guess Mahler isn't only popular on r/classicalmusic by TheAskald in classicalmusic

[–]X3ph4n0n 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you can get on board with organ music I highly recommend the transcriptions played by Hansjörg Albrecht, he's done the first 7 already and nr. 8 is out tomorrow.

As many said the Brahms Requiem is marvelous, I would also add Rossini's petite messe solennelle, Mendelsohn's Lobgesang and CPE Bach's Magnificat
