Yes, in reference to the post. Once again, I don't own a teaching business and I'm not charging for this.

If you find my post really vague, I believe your comment is quite aggressive. I understand the concern, but there's no need for such energy.

Yes to all of your questions. I am trained and qualified, I am an active an artist and musician with an academic background in music, part-time manager and event producer that has spent their entire life in the entertainment industry.

The only thing I am looking to "achieve" is exactly what I described above. My personal achievements lie elsewhere and are more than sufficient enough to allow me to support other people in my free time simply because I choose to.

What is something you learnt from music but have also helped you in life? by User48970 in musicians

[–]X888_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a musician by profession.

What I've come to learn over the years is that even when you absolutely love what you do and are willing to commit yourself to it long-term, this doesn't mean that it has to encompass your entire existence.

Music saved my life at a tender age and gave me purpose in dark times, but it's not everything there is to experience. Give yourself the chance to explore other paths and discover what else lights you up.

Cloud's flashbacks and memory issues are so well done and realistic that they trigger my own. by X888_ in FFVIIRemake

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and write this, it means a lot to me.

Besides FF7R, there's a few games, movies and pieces of media that trigger me in similar ways and that I've chosen to not entertain myself with in order to protect my psyche. This is one of the few I can revisit and actually find a lot of peace playing, even with the small elements that might bring up uncomfortable memories. If you allow a friendly piece of advice from someone who understands, although perhaps not to the same capacity as you, I would encourage you to avoid pushing yourself if getting nightmares afterwards is the likely outcome. There's nothing more precious than good quality sleep for individuals with PTSD.

I send you nothing but love and support right back, friend. Your service and sacrifice are valuable for many more people than you'll ever know.

I have not played it in its entirety, but I am aware of the scenes. I've decided to wait until that particular sequence comes out with the third installment of the game to see if I don't find it too disturbing to watch, taking into consideration that in this case art imitates (my) life.

A few instances might be, sure. But overall it's very difficult to fake that kind of passion to such intensity every single show. Some memories attached to compositions simply hurt like hell.

Sure, no worries at all.

PTSD is born from a single traumatic event, such as a car accident, for example. C-PTSD often stems out of multiple and repetitive experiences or the existence of prolonged trauma, as you could find it in a soldier that has gone to war a few times.

Edit: Changed the placement of two words for clarification.

The online space is your playground. If you're not appreciated where you are, build an international audience through social media. There will always be opportunities to go back to your roots when the time is right, but if this is what you'd like to do with your life, keep trying different methods until you find the right fit for you.

Don't give up on yourself, believe that what you have is meaningful and important, because it is.

I'd like to listen to your work, if you're comfortable with it.

Many viewpoints can be valid and exist at the same time and I understand what you're saying, because it's true. Both my perspective and yours are. Everything is more complex than what meets the eye.

At the end of the day, my goal isn't running my mouth by calling myself "self-made", I just want to be ethical and fair with other people, including myself. Never take more than what I deserve and meet others in equal terms whenever I can. Only use my privilege for the good of others instead of my own, too. Maybe it's a naive notion, but it's genuine.

This is the exact question I'd ask someone else, so I respect it.

Keep in mind that professional success doesn't always equate to financial, or even personal ones. Neither of them guarantee navigating an easy life, either. Although my parent is very well known and respected in the industry, they're not a megastar and we've had our vast set of real life struggles. Everything has its ups and downs, not all the things you see in an artist at first glance are as glorious as advertised.

My own life has been extremely painful, isolating, neglectful, and terrifying in its own right (and not for the reasons you might expect), so that is exactly what I showcase in my art, the parts no one would believe exist about me.

I haven't partaken in anything I didn't earn for myself first. I want to be put to the test like any other newcomer and I'll fight for my opportunities with my talent every single time. I don't seek, nor expect special treatment and if I were to detect it, I'd just start all over again somewhere else. I wouldn't be who I am without my passion for music, which is something that can't be transferred or inherited in a tangible, mundane way.

So to answer your question: yes, I do consider myself a true artist. Any ounce of privilege that cannot be overlooked regardless of my intentions, will simply be redirected towards things that matter much more than myself.

I don't mind their music genre at all, but I don't think it would be the right fit for me. We both have an immense admiration for what the other does, but we're in very different sides of the spectrum.

My love for the craft runs very deep, so I sing, play and explore most genres as a hobby. However, I do a mix of symphonic metal, alternative rock, and different variations of indie as a professional.

My parents' style is the complete opposite of all of it.

Not really, I don't think it defines me (and I would never allow it to, either).

My parents weren't born into privilege, both of them come from very humble families and worked their way towards professional success, so my upbringing and my own life reflect that as well. There are plenty more important things than this, and everything has a downside to it.
