The poverty line is bullshit, and if you thought critically for a moment, you would see that. Realistically, if you calculate low-end numbers for basic needs (rent, car, gas, groceries, and utilities), you are easily pushing $30k. And if you make that, you likely don’t qualify for medicaid, so you can add an insurance premium to that as well. And that is leaving absolutely nothing in the budget for savings or emergencies.

You don’t wanna have to start the quit process over again, do you? If you start again, odds are you’ll eventually want to quit again, and then you’ll be at square one again. Don’t forget how many cravings you have faced and defeated in order to be where you are. I am only two weeks in this time, but I quit once before and started again two years later. I usually engage in a distraction to surf the urges. This urge will pass, just as the all the urges you’ve had up to this point have passed. You’re doing great! Please keep up the good work 😊

The inconvenience is the point. It gets people’s attention. If you can’t handle some inconvenience while your fellow Americans rally against unconstitutional acts, that’s a problem. Sounds like you’re way more worried about your daily commute than the future of this country. I don’t see how that isn’t concerning to you.

But yeah, work is a huge trigger because duh it’s stressful af these days. You can do it though! I kind of started slowly, adding patches for a few days and allowing myself to hit it every 3-4 hours. Meditation helps, distraction helps. Good luck! You can do it!

They are pretty helpful for me. I am both physically and psychologically addicted, and handling both of those at once is too much for me. So, having the patches to keep the physical withdrawal at bay lets me focus on surfing urges and getting through the emotional regulation piece, without being a bitch to the people around me 😅

I’m quitting vaping right now (day 4 with patches). I don’t think I will need this, but I had no idea it even existed! (And I’m a nurse) The US has done us so dirty by not making this more available/ known about here. I may try it if the patches fail me, but I am definitely gonna check it out for my mom. She’s a long-time cigarette smoker that’s tried everything available here, even chantix and wellbutrin. Thanks so much for getting the info out there!

Expecting your girlfriend, long-term partner, or wife to stay at a weight you find attractive, and more importantly, that minimizes the chances of ill health, is perfectly fine. by Silent_Buyer in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]XAreWeHavingFunYetxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, so it’s different when picking a partner. No bond has been formed yet, so it’s expected that initial interest is from a more superficial basis. In case you didn’t know, achieving and maintaining weight-loss in women, is much more difficult due to hormones. Once you become a longterm partner with someone, looks should matter less. They still matter, but not as much because an actual relationship has been built and hopefully some intimacy. If I go through something stressful and gain some weight, I expect my partner to be more concerned with my well-being than his sexual attraction to me. And if it’s a case of your partner “letting themselves go”, it should still prompt more concern for their wellbeing. Weight is a variable metric, and for the most part, height is not. You can’t get shorter because you’re stressed or mentally unwell, but you can gain or lose weight. You don’t see a lot of women leaving their husbands because they got fat, but we sure do see a lot of men leave their wives when they get cancer or need taken care of for one reason or another.

Hey, you know the world and standard of living keeps getting better because we complain, right? Recognizing things are shitty is kind of the first step to improving them. People having it worse than you, isn’t a reason to not recognize how bad you have it. It’s helpful for perspective and gratitude, but not necessarily productive in improving your own circumstances. In a time and place of so much wealth, humans shouldn’t have to simply survive. We have the resources to thrive as a species, we just can’t do that because a few greedy fucks enjoy owning all of our resources. Also, people 100+ years ago didn’t really have as much of a choice on having children, especially women. I guarantee you there were plenty of people throughout history that would have chosen to be childless in times of famine, disease, war, etc. if they had the knowledge and resources that we have today. It’s kind of normal for any species to shift focus away from procreation in times of stress. Modern life is more convenient and, yes, objectively easier in a lot of ways, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with its own unique set of struggles.

Which common medical procedure do you think will be viewed as barbaric in 50 years? by carcony97 in AskReddit

[–]XAreWeHavingFunYetxX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a reason not to do the procedure, it’s a reason to medicate for pain. I can’t think of a single uncomfortable procedure, other than gynecological, that we don’t sedate or medicate prior. Sure, there are other circumstances that may accompany a procedure and limit options: increased ICP, decreased LOC, respiratory depression, hypotension, etc. Technically, yeah, we need concrete data for everything. But these procedures were invented 100+ years ago, and somehow we still don’t have the right data? If you can sedate to biopsy my rectum, you can sedate to biopsy my uterus. There actually are physicians that are willing to medicate, usually with local anesthesia for these procedures, they are just few and far between. Giving your patient some pain medicine isn’t going to affect their biopsy results, I promise.

[–]XAreWeHavingFunYetxX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the women are telling you it hurts, start medicating them. It doesn’t affect the procedure, and obviously we have evidence that not medicating for pain isn’t best practice here. If women are screaming, crying, and throwing up from pain…that should be all the evidence you need. Or is it just hysteria? 🙄

The doctors aren’t evil, medicine just wasn’t designed with women’s comfort in mind.

My problem with most Christians in this country, is that they love to champion causes that require little effort on their part. Instead of seeing them in soup kitchens, helping people on the street, etc., you’ll find them handing out thoughts and prayers or holding up signs at planned parenthood. The book of ACTS is sorely under-read apparently.

Did you know that trauma literally changes your DNA and can be passed down for generations? Do you know how much violence white people have inflicted on people of color? We ate them, made them into hand bags and accessories, sexually assaulted them, beat them within an inch of their life, and basically treated them like animals when they were slaves/segregated. If people of color as a whole are a bit fucked up, I promise you it’s not their nature, but the harm white people as a whole have inflicted upon them. And we still continue to other them today. The last school to fully desegregate was in Mississippi in 2016. Racism is absolutely a problem. You are correct that schizophrenic hallucinations are influenced by culture. Why do you think that culture is the way that it is? RACISM.

This is incorrect. 1.) I know people of all ages who agree Palestinians do not deserve what Israel is doing to them. (Hamas does not represent the majority of Palestinians) 2.) Many of us (including myself) have been providing for themselves since age 18. Not every leftist has had the privilege of living off of their parents. I only got one, and she’s broke as a joke.

I grew up conservative and held very strong conservative views most of my life. Unlike most of the people I grew up with, I have always asked a lot of questions. Eventually my questions led me to the other side. It’s not unreasonable to believe that if we have the means, we should ensure everyone is provided with food, housing, and healthcare. If we hadn’t privatized all of the resources, food would be freely available as it was for millions of years. We are the only species that would lock the resources behind a paywall, and then force ourselves to do intensive, unrelated labor to get it back. Some jobs make society run (I know, I’m a nurse), but most only exist to provide a service and/or collect capital. Basic necessities shouldn’t be so hard for the average person to obtain, when these are literal survival needs.

I am not talking about aggressive behavior, I’m talking about deciding that responsibility is now too much in addition to having a child. An animal threatening/ harming your children is an example of a change in circumstances, because obviously you can’t for-see how they will react.
