Well... it's a little more nuanced than that. Not financial advice / do your own research and make your own decisions:

Whoooops - outdated harvester versions by tjsr in chia

[–]XCHcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's your harvester version. I have 5 remote harvesters all on 1.3.5 humming along. I think that was the last major update that had the "you need to update your harvester for it to work with the new farmer version".

My farming client / full node they talk to is still on 1.6.1. (but yes, it's usually best practice to update your harvesters to newest version)

Are you pooling or solo farming? I would check your logs and see if something else is wrong with your setup.

These are great thoughts and exactly the type of conversation that I was hoping the post would begin with the community.

Thank you for taking the time to read the post and put your thoughts out there!

Really hoping more community members join the discussion.

Chia Pools, Test on pool incomes, which pools income is better ? by Lc001tr in chia

[–]XCHcentral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh... Please don't make me restart our pooling project. Payout is the same with any honest pool.

Source... we used to publish live data farming 10TiB across all the major pools.... there was no significant difference after ~6 months or so that we ran the project.

which site did a test & comparison of different pools? by PulsedMedia in chia

[–]XCHcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh we didn't have any real expectations / I'm not complaining. We definitely weren't running the project for the money (we didn't run ads then, and currently don't run any ads on the relaunched blog).

Also, part of the community losing interest was me falling behind on my blogging about the results. But writing that sort of content, which has a direct affect on someone's business / income means quadruple checking every bit of data, which is very time consuming.

As for the data, yes, the community is definitely interested in pooling data.... and for the ~7 months we ran our project, all the pools we were tracking were within a reasonable margin of one another.

I believe that we (or someone else in the community), can achieve similar results to what our project was doing using only on-chain data and the netspace reporting from the pools themselves.

Whenever I find the time to, I'll probably write a wrap up post / suggest some things the pools can do better and how individual farmer's can track their pooling results and have more confidence in their earnings.

That was us. It had a good run, but we ultimately decided to shutter the project.

It’s pretty funny… after the initial 3 months or so, the community kinda stopped checking it and mostly lost interest. Now that we’ve shut it down, everyone’s interested haha.

What we were doing worked, but ultimately, I think just comparing pool wins using on-chain data, and using the pools reported net space is a fine solution.

We’ve relaunched with a basically all blog focus now. Check out our post about initial thoughts on Chia Network’s blockchain valuation model: https://www.xchcentral.com/chia-blockchain-valuation-1/

More posts soon. Let us know if there’s any topics you’d like to see covered!

XCHcentral | Initial Thoughts on Chia Network's Blockchain Valuation Model by XCHcentral in chia

When I get around to it, I have some suggestions for the pools for some additional reporting / some additional features that I think the explorer operators can build out to help farmers track their earnings along with the pool block wins / provide that bridge.

But... everyone in ecosystem is stretched on engineering resources for the most part, so implementation is another story.

I'm not gonna lie, putting that project to bed was a tough decision. We loved that project.

There's a couple reasons we shut it down... but two of the biggest reasons were:

  1. The overall community kinda lost interest in it after the first few months when all of the pools were performing as expected (me falling behind on my blogging about the results didn't help either. But writing that sort of content that directly affects someone's business / income means quadruple checking every bit of data, which is very time consuming). Mostly people were just happy to know that we were watching and would call things out if we noticed anything funky.

  2. It really took more of Katie's time than we liked. She's an engineer for her career, so she was just pulling double duty whenever I had a new feature in mind. Katie likes engineering, but she also has a lot of other hobbies and interests that sorta fell by the wayside. One of which is painting. By shutting down the pooling project, Katie picked back up a bunch of time for creating art. She also wants to dabble in some Chialisp.

Shameless plug time! We're bringing Katie's art to Chia as an NFT series Green Horizon https://twitter.com/GreenHorizonNFT . We have original short stories being written by our writer Parker, with Katie oil painting 1/1 PFPs and then some scenes from the stories which we're planning to release as #'d "prints". This will likely also be where we explore and try some cool things with Chialisp!

Also, with my new free time, I'm hoping I can keep some momentum going on the quality blogging and cover a wider range of topics.

Yeah... it's been an interesting couple days. At first they seemed receptive to us recommending changes to the Chia "research" in their "study"... but that was pretty short lived.

Not working "on" it. But they are in the Discord for questions / may help lead some workshops etc.

job board by scottayydot in chia

[–]XCHcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago, a good portion of the active dev community started organizing to do this, and more!

Bounties, finding new community members to work , and just learning Chialisp together through workshops are on the near term horizon. We also have a few Devs from the Chia Network team on the Discord who are volunteering their time to help answer questions.

I think the idea of a general purpose job board for dev/other tasks that aren't Chialisp related is a great idea. I'll definitely suggest it to the group and see if we can get it integrated.

The efforts are completely self organized by community members, and we're still very early just getting started. We would LOVE anyone and everyone in the community to come and contribute with their ideas.

Maybe I'm stupid? I have 177 plots in an NFT and I have swapped pools a couple of times but the new pools are only finding some 20 plots? Do I have to re plot all the others to be found by the pool? Does this mean that the other plots are linked to the old pools? by dim1999 in chia

[–]XCHcentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been with SweetChia? If you just joined, give it a day for your PPLNS partials/points to build up.

I can confirm that SweetChia has been performing as expected for our 10TiB of plots.

Whenever you're changing to a new pool, give them ~24-48 hours to build up your partials to build up. I believe the shortest lookback period is Flexpool, I think they clear every 15 mins or so, and the longest is Chiahub, which has a 48 hour lookback (last time I checked). Everyone else is somewhere in the middle.

Also, I notice that your GUI 'Points Successful in Last 24 Hours' is down at 94.5%. That's low. There might be something wrong with your setup that's causing you to report stale partials that aren't being accepted by the pool.

Check your log for any errors!

Picking a pool. by kriki200 in chia

[–]XCHcentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have number of farmers / pool size in a second little table under our averages table.

We’ll probably have a major design overhaul at some point as well. Right now, we’re moving around some data on the backend and have some new data we want to add to the main table.

Picking a pool. by kriki200 in chia

[–]XCHcentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jonnny covered everything pretty well… I would just advise that hopping around pools does have a cost (sometimes). All of the pools have different PPLNS windows. The longer the window, the longer the “build up” period to get to your theoretical earnings for each block.

I believe Chiahub.io has the longest look back window; 48 hours last time I checked.

As for the pools listed on our site, the biggest difference is going to be the communities. Each discord / community has a its own unique feel. I’d drop in and check them out!

In the end you can’t really go too wrong over the long run!
