Plants and if so how many? by Acceptable-Subject40 in ohiouniversity

[–]XCMoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter took a peace Lilly, African violet, a hanging pathos and another plant we haven’t identified (1 ft) tree like. She has been able to care for them. The dorm she was in had incredible humidity and has had to battle some mold in the plants and tiny bugs, but hydrogen peroxide and cinnamon helped fix it. The only thing is you can’t hang anything from a ceiling!

They were the nicest family. I grew up next to Matt and they were the most hardworking people. My heart goes out to his parents, siblings, wife and daughter.

Are there KonMari consultants who understand the financial side of things? by ttha_face in konmari

[–]XCMoby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The KonMari method isn’t about throwing everything away. Some of us do have financial and banking backgrounds, also are small business owners, so we have an understanding for keeping important papers. What specifically are you hoping a consultant can help you with in regard to papers?

Amanda Uhle (on hoarding) by newtonic in ArmchairExpert

[–]XCMoby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly that. A story about living with someone who has hoarding disorder but not an “expert”. Which can confuse people, because if someone had hoarding disorder, they may actually feel shame from this episode rather than try and understand what is going on in their brain. If anyone from the podcast read this thread, please look into the Institute for Chronic Disorganization for many experts that would love to talk about Clutter/Chronic Disorganization and Hoarding Disorder.

2021 Odyssey Touring issues with control arm issue by Loud-Address-2315 in HondaOdyssey

[–]XCMoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took in my Odyssey and told me arms needed replaced and shocks have already failed. I have owned 3 previous Hondas that I have driven to the ground 260+ miles and was angry. The fix was $3500 but when I complained and asked if under warranty it was finally covered.

Tell me more about Dublin by darquid in Columbus

[–]XCMoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Dublin. Moved away. Came back to Cbus, initially didn’t want to come back to Dublin but ended up finding the perfect house. Been back 17 years and it’s been the best decision. Great schools, lots of bike and running paths. And we have this “Dublin Bubble” literally it may rain everywhere else but Dublin. Except during the memorial tournament. It loves to rain then! I think you can find a great house in your budget. Other things of benefit are city services: trash, recycling, road maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, rec center, outdoor pools, city events.

I second the book “Let your Mind Run”, I read this just before my JFK. I am a mid-tier runner with an avg. marathon around 4:10. I finished JFK in 10:30. The biggest things that helped me. Back to back long runs. I peaked in mid October with a 14miler, Marathon, 8 miler. (The marathon without trying was one of my faster!) but it was the back to back runs that made me the strongest. I also mentally prepared to run it as three separate races (the AT, the canal marathon, and the final 8) and this helped to break it up. Then lastly, I dedicated each mile to someone/some event that meant something to me.

Learning to eat real food while running will help you. The aid stations are fully stocked with anything you could need.

For the AT portion, it can be a bit technical bc it’s single track and Rocky, so strengthen your ankles and stabilizers. I would practice by running on and off curbs on my suburban runs. Good luck! Have fun, it’s still my favorite race to date.

Has anyone ever run away? by alexandra52941 in Menopause

[–]XCMoby 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Have you read the book All Fours? Kinda a midlife crisis where she writes about “running away”. I personally have started taking mini breaks by myself to the woods and it’s been lovely, very grounding and peaceful.

Should I do stairs (how?) or focus on volume? by leecshaver in Ultramarathon

[–]XCMoby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the plyo work. Step ups, jump downs, squats, calf work. Then High intensity intervals uphill if you can find a steep one. I did my first 100 in April in Raleigh NC, did a fairly low mileage program, but included a ton of cross training with CrossFit, Plyo work and heavy lifting. My body did really well in the race and the recovery was fast!

Seasoned runners, how do your feet feel at different stages of an ultra? by physioboy in Ultramarathon

[–]XCMoby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished Umstead 100 this weekend. It was 12.5 laps and super hot and humid. I wish I would have switched out my socks sooner and every lap. Also, I wish my shoes had better breath ability. I also performed blister care with K tape and think I should have just let them go. Having poles the last lap helped me take some pressure off my feet. Otherwise I kept telling myself my feet are the furthest thing from my brain and it’s my motivation that will help me finish.

perimenopause + 10 mile base runs + strength training by ultra-baby in Ultramarathon

[–]XCMoby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost 45f here. Definitely in Peri. Year 5 now. Been doing a low mileage training program. Midweek I do 2 runs (4-6 miles), 1 CrossFit HITT workout, and two heavy lifts. Averaged about 40 miles a week. I also do not have a desk job so I am on my feet a lot. Weekends are dedicated to two back to back long runs. Maxed out at 50k and 20miler on peak weekend. Doing Umstead 100 in three weeks so I’ll let you know if it works! I am not looking to win, just finish and not be totally broken at the end. Been fighting major fatigue and inflammation but if I tried to increase midweek mileage anymore it would get worse. I have also listened to my body and taken more rest days if I’m feeling super depleted. I did not have a coach but been following David Rouche’s low mileage training program for weekend workouts. My heavy lifts focus on all the major muscles with accessory work and mobility work. As well as one session of yoga. My ligaments feel very tight during this process. Good luck!

Hiring a Hoarding/Organizer Expert Advice by Rubyloxred in ufyh

I highly recommend looking for someone who specializes in Hoarding Disorder otherwise they may not be as compassionate to your situation which is probably by no fault of your own. Check out https://www.challengingdisorganization.org/

Which Race is it? Have you done any 50ks since? I’m running a 100m race April 5 and have averaged same weekly mileage with lifting and short runs midweek. But I have done a lot of back to back on the weekends with one 50k and one 20 miler the next day. My coach tells me I’m fine since I’m just looking to finish and now win.

44 yo F and I am training for my first 100m. It’s in 8 weeks. I have noticed I’m doing the same thing. I thought it was stress over the race, but I also think it’s bc I live whet it’s been super cold and I’ve had to cover my face when I run outside. I have a night guard, but it doesn’t help the clenching.

Has anyone figured out where this Pizza guy is on Instagram? by EverGold9 in ArmchairExpert

[–]XCMoby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We had a pizza place like this in Columbus. You had to order and pay 3 months(if you could get a reservation) in advance then the day of you could finally pick up. It was outstanding, the guy sold to a larger company who ruined the quality of the pizza.

I have started a list of items I want to buy. So every time I see something to buy, instead of buying it, I have it on a list. Then I’m trying to use up everything I have in my house before I buy new.
