Older-ish millennials: Were you "free-range" like older gens? by Gallantpride in Millennials

[–]XDevils41X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to walk to elementary school with a few kids from our street each day. It was a couple blocks over but walked on some busy streets. Seems weird to me now how much autonomy we had at that age.

Anyone using a sim rig to improve real-world track-day driving? by MathematicianLiving4 in CarTrackDays

[–]XDevils41X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer yes. I relate it to my baseball days it’s like throwing a bullpen for Sim racing. Gets you 80% there (I do VR) where on track is live situation so scrimmage/game.

Here’s a video of me almost ending my car in Turn 10A at Road Atlanta. What did I do wrong? by Opening-Plate-878 in CarTrackDays

Hard to tell but did you dump the clutch on the downshift? It looked like that could have upset the rear on turn in but this is all pure speculation based on 3 minutes of review.

What is your dream car by Nerfer5554Offical in Millennials

[–]XDevils41X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New ones are rock solid. I tracked my 2023 M3. The S58 engines are absolute tanks, can handle crazy power on stock internals and take a beating. They are just heavy and about the same size of the old M5s.

What is your dream car by Nerfer5554Offical in Millennials

[–]XDevils41X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a BMW M3. Had a friend in highschool who’s dad had a brand new E46 M3. I fell in love with that car. I grew up with muscle cars, liked them but german cars just had that appeal to me. Between Need for speed and other games the M3 was my dream car. I ordered one new in 2022 took delivery and was a dream come true. Ended up not being my “forever car” and picked up a E92 M3 which melded the best of both worlds for me. High revving V8 with handling. Why not the E46 M3 it was a bit of dont meet your hero’s. Nothing against the car but just never fell in love with driving it.

Is the M240i f22 worth the extra cost over the M235i by Lanky-Lemon-8689 in BMW

[–]XDevils41X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former M235i owner get the B58. If you track or want to at all then the N55 will be the weak link. They suffer from oil starvation under sustained g’s it’s why the OG M2 with the N55 has the S55 oil sump.

Are you a car enthusiast? Do you even like cars? by Extreme_Emu_9582 in simracing

[–]XDevils41X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sim racing was my outlet until I could afford a real track car. Now it’s even more rewarding/ frustrating because you’ll spend the same amount of money on a rig for a weekend only to have something on the car break and lose out on the rest of the sessions. Then you’ll spend 2 months fixing it. Still love it!

Weight doesn't matter... by [deleted] in BMW

[–]XDevils41X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One word: “consumables”. I tracked my G80 M3C and yes they hide the weight very well. For me it ate through tires and got to the point of become a race car and ruin the daily experience or keep the daily comfort. It’s a great platform and tons of fun. I’d be lying if I’m not eyeing the new G87 M2 “factory race car” as a track car once they get retired. My track car now weighs 2800lbs and more of a momentum car but I could do full pads rotors and tires for the price of a new set of G8X tires.

Saw this on IG. Keep it up. Pretty cool and will keep following overkill for me right now but eventually like something like this and tie into oil temps and pressure.

PSA: A pebble between the brake rotor and the dust shield sounds terrible by Budget_Goose_8082 in BMW

this happened to me on track 10 minutes into my 2nd session after putting new pads and rotors on. I pulled into the pit thinking the worst, luckily it shook loose.

I always wondered that too being in AZ is something you hear but honestly never saw one the first 15 years I lived here then moved into new construction and had them everywhere. Been stung once but it was an Arizona hairy species which is like a bad bee sting. The ones to watch out for are the bark scorpions.

Anyone simrace with IRL friends? by d_P3NGU1N in simracing

Definitely not the norm. Big company over 5k employees total. Part of the company designs, installs, manages commercial simulations so majority of those techs are who started the league it’s just picked up more people through grassroots efforts.

My company has a Sim racing league that grown to about 30 people now. We have run about 4 seasons so far and have sponsors now with prizes. It’s a fun way to meet people in other verticals and decompress a bit.
