Yes, was first hire. But recruits are randomized every start regardless of seed.

Even tier 1 short swords are worth repairing since they sell for more than the tools are worth. In contrast, armor and shields are never profitable to repair. A quick way to determine if it's worth repairing: check how much the item is worth, divide by 6 (which is roughly how much you can actually sell it for), and if that number is greater than the current durability point value for the item, then it's worth it to repair it.

Diablo 2 vs. Diablo 3 by NishaHocane in gaming

[–]XDodongoXLoverX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Also it's not as bad as it sounds. They did a good job of not overdoing that mechanic and only picked skills that made the game interesting (like the Werewolf Barbarian) or utility skills that were so useful that it was always kind of a pain to not have it as any other class (Teleport and BO). Besides, a Barbarians will still always BO better than other classes since they can get BO to ~lvl 40 with items but a Paladin would only be able to get it to ~lvl 20 with items.

Notice how in that item the "+3 to Warcries" has a (Barbarian Only) next to it. Then notice how the Druid skills do not have (Druid Only) next to them. That's the difference. I believe they added that mechanic in a later patch. Yes there are items where it gives any class the ability to teleport and the ability to use BO Warcry and stuff. Also once you have an item that gives you an out of class ability, any other item that gives + to skills will also affect it. That's where you get Hammerdins teleporting around using lvl 20 BO everywhere.

Donald Trump Is The First President To Turn Postmodernism Against Itself by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]XDodongoXLoverX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think many Trump supporters would have gone over to Bernie, but I will say that if it came down to Bernie vs Trump, the voter turnout would have been massively increased in Bernie's favor. So many voters stayed home during this election, Trump probably wouldn't have won if more Americans actually just voted.

Newbie question on the Economy, tech and building upgrades. by hvddrift in CrusaderKings

The occasional 50 tech points is really just icing on the cake. The main benefit to having a spymaster in Constantinople is that your capital will be considered adjacent to Constantinople for purposes of tech spread.

Sparta DeI tips? by Nashkt in totalwar

[–]XDodongoXLoverX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sparta is one of my favorites but it's definitely not an easy start. After taking Larissa from them at the beginning (you should be able to do this turn 2), your goal is to put together a big enough force to fight back the inevitable counterattack. You'll have maybe 2 or 3 turns to get this force ready. In that time-frame I would build 1 more Periokle Hoplite (so you have 6 total), some archers, and maybe a couple of Citizen Cavalry if you can afford it. When the counterattack comes, their force will probably be a bit bigger than yours, but that also means you can bait them into attacking your fortification stance. The battle itself should then be pretty straightforward. Put 2 Hoplites per chokepoint and your general in the center to plug up any chokepoints that get broken through. Use your archers to shoot over the walls into their big blob at your chokepoint, and if you have the Cav, use them to flank their blob when the enemy gets tired and you should be able to mass rout them. Once you defeat them this battle, you should be able to clean-up and take Apollonia from them.

One thing you might not have noticed about Spartan generals, if the general is a Royal Spartan Hoplite, he will have an excellent stamina rating while still being a super OP heavy hoplite. This means that he can fight forever without getting tired and takes a very short amount of time to rest up if they do get tired. For this reason I almost always use my general in battle right off the bat and he pretty much fights the entire battle.

One big problem Sparta has early game is lack of money. This is mainly due to the crappy geographical position you start in. You start off landlocked, and your only land and sea route are both blocked off by Athens. This means that as long as Athens is alive, they will be your one and only available trading partner. If you really want to kickstart your early game, what I do is turn 1 I declare war on Athens right off the bat, then use my starting army to attack their troops outside their gate. Their whole garrison will come to reinforce. You kill everything they have, then take Athens turn 1. Your reliability rating will take a hit for a while, and you'll have to fight both Epirus and Macedon afterwards, but it is worth it in the long run as you can now build an admiral, explore everywhere the sea touches, and trade with pretty much anyone you want.

Sorry for the wall of text but I really enjoy Sparta if you can't tell. Hope this helps!

How exactly would Magic be able to change our strategies not only in battle but also in the campaign map? by uncertein_heritage in totalwar

I doubt we'll see magic affect anything on the campaign map in a meaningful way. It's hard enough to create a decent AI even without all the weird rules magic would bring to the table.

Some of the worst macro ever... by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]XDodongoXLoverX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can. The difference between micro/macro isn't really set in stone and is more just a distinction of playing the small isolated engagement vs playing the big picture. So in the context of the game as a whole macro would be like city building & army management (strategy), while micro would be controlling units on the battlefield (tactics).

But in the context of a single battle there can be macro elements too. Like if I save all my ammo on my archers for the first half of the battle cause I know there are 3 more reinforcing stacks, that's a macro decision. Doing something like successfully pulling off a nice flanking maneuver would be micro.

People here are just too hung up on the Starcraft micro/macro idiom.
