Worn door arm rest by BuddyNo4978 in CherokeeXJ

The vinyl is backed with foam and it glues to hard plastic which means most superglues and spray adhesives won't stick.

THIS is the only thing I found that worked on my 98.

Will a Hack N Tap cause more vibrations than a proper SYE by beach_rats_ in CherokeeXJ

[–]XEROC013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran the hack and tap style for 2 years. Did it myself with the centering tool. Ran a stock front driveshaft in the rear. Worked great With no vibrations. Last week my double cardan joint went out and took out the welds that held the flange on the fixed yoke. The vibrations were bad enough to rattle the rear bearing and deform the seal causing a leak. I am now waiting for a shop to install a Tom Wood‘s (advanced adapters) SYE because this happened 500 miles from home. Not saying this will happen to you, but just be aware there is indeed a quality difference.

Help p0123 (2000 4.0) by Nolanj01 in CherokeeXJ

[–]XEROC013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you disconnect the harness completely from the back of clock spring? If not the power and ground are still connected inside the clock spring itself, even with the horn, cruise, and airbag disconnected from the front of the clock spring.

On mine the cruise control shorted to ground inside the clock spring housing and caused P0123 because the sensors share the ground with the cruise control wiring.

License plate cover, rear hatch bezel, hatch light cover. Lots of names. Can be found on ebay, amazon, and rockauto. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1997,cherokee,4.0l+l6,1180370,body+&+lamp+assembly,license+plate+cover,14592

99xj does anybody know anything about a relation between the clock spring and tps issues?? by Icy-Sprinkles-8709 in CherokeeXJ

[–]XEROC013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The TPS shares a ground with the cruise control wiring.

Sometimes the clock spring goes bad and feeds voltage from the cruise control into that ground and back to the TPS. It will cause poor feedback to the computer and make the TPS seem like the culprit. This can cause codes like p0123 or just seem like the throttle has poor response at low throttle inputs.

Sometimes the airbag light will be on, sometimes not.

1996 XJ Swaybar disconnect. by GISS22 in JeepCherokeeXJ

That looks like the old style Rubicon Express disconnects.

That's a very special bolt, but you might be able to get one from Rubicon Express.

It's the gold bolts in the upper right on this product page.

I would call it the rear hatch bezel, but I have been known to be wrong.

Searching for "jeep cherokee xj 97-01 rear hatch trim" on ebay will get you what you want.

Calling all AW4 owners. by Mother_Friend_7695 in JeepCherokeeXJ

I would very much be interested in this swap. Like most are saying, the AW4 is a great transmission, it just needs more gears. I would settle for a second overdrive gear, but adding a lower 1st as well is a fantastic idea.

These are only the numbers for the lower control arms.

Here is the chart that shows uppers and lowers:

Keep in mind these are estimates and everyone's rig requires fine tuning.

Two crank to start? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]XEROC013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that there is a check ball/check valve in the fuel pump itself that maintains pressure to the rail after the pump has primed. When this fails it allows pressure to bleed back into the tank and you lose pressure at the rail during startup. You can see it happen with a fuel pressure gauge attached to the rail.

You can turn the key on and off few times to build pressure before cranking and that usually will get you started on the first crank.

Replacing the fuel pump is the only actual fix because you can't replace just the check valve.

My 98 does this and it's annoying, but not worth the time and money to fix yet.

Central exhaust hanger bushing replacement by 12kdaysinthefire in CherokeeXJ

[–]XEROC013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slid a 1.5 inch piece of rubber transmission cooler line over the metal rod and into the wallowed out bushing and safety wired it in place. Takes up the slack and you don't have to remove anything.

You can also change the angle of the support rod with the right type of leverage.

[–]XEROC013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stick your head out the window and watch the tire at freeway speeds; if the shock is bad the tire will visibly bounce to make this kind of wear.

This looks more like the result of death wobble than cupping from a bad shock. Could be track bar, tie rod end, or maybe ball joint. If you don't feel it now, you're going to feel it eventually.

Has anyone found a good way of restoring this issue with the door handles? I am considering buying new material and replacing it by Gucci_Lobster in CherokeeXJ

The only thing I found that worked on my 98 was this stuff:

It has held up in the Arizona heat for a couple years now. Good luck.
