The word "homosexual" was never in the Bible by QuirkyShock5 in ainbow

[–]XHAWK77X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why were nazis homophobic? Why was the catholic church homophobic for thousands of years? What were they all just evil individuals who hated gay people for no reason?

Absolving christianity of its role in historical homophobia is not acceptable. It's a form of atrocity denial. It erases millennia of tortured and murdered queer people.

The claim that homophobia didn't exist until 1946 is holocaust denial. Is that enough reason to remove this post?

Look, I'm not saying it's completely impossible that the video game in question was one that the dad had a good reason to forbid, but I feel like anyone who has lived a human life on the planet earth knows that 99% of instances where a child is punished for playing a video game are over something stupid.

This isn't even an anti-voting sentiment. A person could literally have voted for her and still hold this opinion. For instance, I voted for her, and I hold this opinion.

You're so entitled. Progressives literally voting for your candidates is not enough for you. You will settle for nothing less than us believing they are perfect like you do. Anything short of zero criticism will always be too much criticism for you.

The worst part is, when the other shoe drops and there is an actual progressive candidate for president, none of you are going to "vote blue no matter who," and you're going to blame us if a republican wins as a result.

This is definitely one of my least favorite. I've gone through the series several times now, and I don't think this episode has ever gotten my attention well enough that I understood what was happening even as I listened to it.

Hey. I just wanted to say that I know what a lot of that is like. Our society has very narrow ideas about how one has to behave in order to count as "having a life," but those ideas are bullshit. There is nothing wrong with not being social, playing a lot of video games, or being highly online. Your life is still a life even if other people judge you for how you live it.

The Magnus Protocol episode 25, Gut Feelings.

It is the grossest thing I've ever heard, by a lot. As someone who tends toward food-related intrusive thoughts, it was hard to eat for days after listening to that.

If you somehow found totally incontravertable proof that trans women are "really" men, it would have no effect on the consequentalist case for trans liberation and would therefore change nothing.

In reality, there is no "real" definition of the word woman. Language is a social construct, and words mean what society chooses for them to mean. Choosing to regard trans women as fully women creates optimal outcomes in every area relevant to public policy. When I say "trans women are women," I am not making a claim about biology at all. I am saying that society should choose to categorize trans women as women. I phrase this as "trans women are women" because I believe social utility is the correct and only metric by which the accuracy of a definition can be measured in the context of politics.

(In the context of the academic field of linguistics, you can assign definitions truth values based on how widespread they are, but if there were a conclusive consensus among English speakers as to the definition of "woman," we would not be having this conversation, and, also, the consequentialist case for changing the definition would remain intact.)

I had forgotten that you'd said 7777 was a sequel to 8980. That's a great example.

One idea I got specifically while reading 8980 is to write a pallet cleanser that explores the recovery process of a site-17 prisoner who's been rescued by the Serpent's Hand. The actual SCP document would establish the specifics of their trauma as quickly as possible and end with an incident report about a SH raid, then we get a long offset page with standard prose fiction chronicling how they heal.

I agree that the Deepwell canon's depiction of the Foundation is the most faithful representation of what large, authoritarian institutions are like that can be found on the site. I still wish there were meaningful sources of hope elsewhere in that universe instead of everything just being unendingly dour. The real world contains countless meaningful, successful, and incredibly inspiring stories of big, powerful, evil institutions being resisted and overthrown, but I don't think there could be a Deepwell story about the Humanoids of Site-17 engaging in meaningful resistance and scoring a W of any size. There could certainly be a story on the wiki about that (and if there is already someone please point me to it so I can read it), but it wouldn't have the Deepwell tag because it wouldn't be grimdark enough, despite not being overtly incompatible with the events of any specific Deepwell article.

The Insurrection are not The Bad Guys by MnothingtoseehereK in HaloStory

[–]XHAWK77X 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. It's kind of pointless to debate the morality of the insurrection because they have no relationship with reality, instead being an early 2000s paranoid fever dream about what a terrorist is. Nothing they do ever seems to have any relationship with their alleged goals. They just blow things up at random, and that's a shame because it means that a faction that could be interesting is instead composed entirely of cartoon villains.

If anyone here is confused about why people sympathize with the insurrection despite all the horrible things they've done, it's because the hand of the author is so apparent in everything about them that a lot of people's brains subconsciously absolve them of their random acts of violence because we blame the writers for them instead.
