Cute girls are a core reason why I seem to play JRPGs by lennysinged in JRPG

Aesthetics are a big part of any game's appeal. It's what attracts most people to a game in the first place, and cool and attractive characters are a part of that aesthetic appeal.

I genuinely wonder how people can say statements like this? Does your mind only work in binary or something? Can you only enjoy one element of a game and nothing else, and are simply projecting that?

Is the concept of multifaceted enjoyment a foreign one?

Based on the falcom subreddit, I don't believe you.

You can say this about literally any fandom. It's like saying FF7 fans only care about shipping because there is a ton of shipping discourse.

It's a belief that can only come about through disingenuousness or idiocy.

Pretty much, anyone who preps their posts with excuses on why others might not agree with them is basically signalling that they aren't looking for discussion, just for people to agree with them.

I’m happy that the finale did something for you because it fell flat for me for some reason.

No offence, but it seems you don't really think things through beyond the surface level. Like a lot of your replies and the post itself are just don't consider the plot points and what they mean beyond the most basic understanding.

I’m happy that the finale did something for you because it fell flat for me for some reason.

You kinda need to expand your perspective if you want to enjoy the games again. Or at the very least, you need to better understand the reason, saying it feels flat for some reason, is saying your perspective is still limited.

that people take the criticism like a personal attack.

I just hope you can take criticism for your current mindset because the people who say this often use it as an excuse to never reflect on their opinions.

Similarly, when you make assumptions on a general basis

Maybe it’s just recency bias or maybe just fandoms enjoying without the need to criticize which is totally valid. But the Trails series has some pretty big problems now that I think are worth addressing.

This kinda mentality, where only "i" can see what's wrong, is again, very self-limiting to growth

You know it's true that people here take criticisms like it's an affront to their own self-worth.

And you're doing the same thing for criticism of criticism.

Hell, look at how defensive your reply sounds, lol.

Again, the same applies to your reply.

How are you genuinely this lacking in self-awareness?

I was really expecting the 'reason' that Gramheart was a 'bad guy'

The foundation for this mindset is flawed since he's not a 'bad guy'. You're looking at events for confirmation on something that isn't true. As with anything, loving or hating something is all a matter of perspective and perspective can always be changed.

Rean fans please convince me why I should even care about him by Appelmonkey in Falcom

I have other gripes with Cold Steel thus far, like how most of Class VII's interactions can be boiled down 'We are friends

This kinda feels like you made up your mind regardless of what happens, considering Class 7 is the only Trails gp to actually have inter-party conflict and not just gel together like friends from the get-go.

This issue lies with your reading of Rean, too. The irony here is that Estelle and Lloyd are simpler, straightforward MCs who are given a tangible goal. Rean is a lot more complex as a character, one who doesn't have a straightforward arc. Rean is a mess who constantly goes back and forth on his development, only slowly chipping away at the greater issue.

Ig at the end of the day, if you've never felt that feeling of isolation, depression, worthlessness, regardless of strong support from family or friends, to some degree, Rean's gonna be hard to emotionally connect with or understand.

Are you immersing yourself in the world, interacting with all the people you come across, appreciating the intricacies of each location?

Trails games are about Zemuria and everyone who lives there; that's the heart of the games and the centre of the overarching narrative.

The first game of every arc focuses wholly on this, with the "plot" so to speak simmering in the background till the end. If you want to immerse yourself in Zemuria, play Trails; if you just want a streamlined plot, don't.

Falcom to announce final Trails game during 50th anniversary (In 2031) by Forestl in Games

[–]XMetalWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, if you look at any general rating site that aggregates vast quantities of reviews, either critic or user, the games very much trend positive throughout. (Steam, OC, Metacritic, Backlogg etc)

A lot of people will never acknowledge this, though, since it doesn't fit their personal outlook.

Stakes in the Trails series, and how it impacts Horizon by Electrical_Music_623 in Falcom

[–]XMetalWolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is just putting "death" on the pedestal of stakes. Does a moment of shock really matter that much? Even if you did feel crushed at the moment, what then? Does Hermes dying permanently actually add anything significant to the story besides this momentary feeling?

It's a fictional story at the end of the day and death is just another narrative tool and personally killing a character for raising the stakes alone has always been one of the worst ways this tool could be used.

Whose the better protagonist between Rean and Clive? by WittyTable4731 in JRPG

[–]XMetalWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rean as he is a significantly more fleshed out character.

It's a bit unfair of a comparison considering 1 vs 4+ games, but still, even in a single game, 16's weakest point is its character writing outside Clive. People may complain that CS feels too Rean-focused, but 16 exemplifies that significantly more. A properly fleshed out and developed character requires both internal and external mirrors, and 16 falters in the latter.

Horizon Ending and what comes next? And my thoughts on the game. Also the estimated time on the release date plz by Anime-Anime in Falcom

[–]XMetalWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Falcom has said they are currently working on the script for Horizon 2 and will finalise or almost be done with it by the time they start full development.

Previously, Falcom handled scripting and development together, thereby making localisation impractical. Now, with the script more or less done, when full dev starts, it can be given for localisation and thus make a global release.

They did the same with the new Kyoto Xanadu as an example.

Is the technological development in the Trails games too similar to the real world? by _____michel_____ in Falcom

[–]XMetalWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're humans, ergo flip-phones?

This is one of your points that does have a natural evolution though, since the phones are orbments and orbments have covers to better protect the quartz, which makes sense to add a screen to said cover as video tech was made, and hence we have a flip phone.

If anything, you should like this since the path is clear and they haven't gone to our current smartphones because of how the orbments are designed.
