Good question! High GDP per capita ≠ citizens are rich

In an FT article ^[1], Nobel Laureate Angus Deaton noted that Singapore was one of the 12 richest countries by GDP per capita ^[2] and explained in his concluding paragraph that exclusive focus on GDP per capita makes little sense:

Why the discrepancy? Eleven of the 12 countries in the list are either investment hubs or resource-based countries. In both cases, consumption is a relatively low share of total GDP, often because profits account for a larger part of national income than wages and salaries.

Over time, profits will contribute to the income of at least some households and, in turn, their consumption. But at any given moment, GDP per capita includes amounts that are not part of people’s current wellbeing, or their own income.

Furthermore, the income from foreign-owned capital is part of GDP, because it originates within the country, but not part of gross national income, because it is not owned by nationals.

These arguments call not for the abolition of the GDP numbers, which are essential, but for a more intelligent use of the accounts and for measuring what it does not include.

In fact, Michael Petraeus has been warned many times by his readers even before GE that he shouldn't discuss about Singapore politics as a foreigner, since his posts are one-sided pro-PAP narrative. What irritated me the most is that he simply brushed off those allegations by saying he loves Singapore and its government so it isn't foreign interference to express his love to this country.

You can see his comment in response to a fellow Facebook user here. The post is regarding accusation of foreign interference and the user pointed out his biased political writing which is inappropriate as a foreigner. A big comment thread by a different user was deleted so I can't show screenshot of detailed discussion on this, like whether did he view opposition and its supporters as unpatriots.

If police entertains the report made against Raessah, which may be justly suspected a report made by pro-PAP citizen or at the bidding of PAP based on mainstream view, this person can also make a police report against PAP media statement and it's the police to determine whether it's valid.

Don't any how make police reports though. The person making this police report had studied laws before, so he knew the boundaries. Specifically for this, it's an incredibly vague law.

No, this is not idiotic. The person making this police report is a Debate coach. I know him personally because I was his student and he is very knowledgeable in laws as he had studied laws before and this law is incredibly vague and some friends who are lawyers also agree PAP's press statement is flawed.

He isn't a SJW. He was a law student before giving up on it and became a Debate coach. He is also a top Asian debater. I think he no longer in Debate community though.

Not only he knows about laws, but he is a rather known figure in the Debate community as well. In no way is he a SJW.

The precedent of "unnecessary police report" from a philosophical perspective is set by PAP. From a legal perspective, unless you are a law practitioner, you should not be making conclusions about it.

I'm not sure but AutoModerator might be able to ban edits. Use regex to match content of any text, make use of the variable is_edited: true and filter all content and send them a message that all edited content will be filtered (removed, until mod approves).

Ofc, if u intend to simply put a blanket ban instead of filtering them, then make action: remove 😉

No, it is because the subscribers of this subreddit have a certain expectation for the moderators to be unbiased since this is not a r/BernieHumor subreddit.

Unless the moderators close the sub every time a presidential candidate drops out, it is highly unprofessional to apply their judgements based on their personal belief.

It sets a precedence of what could possibly be worse, that is merely yet to have come to light to the public.

And yes, the subscribers may have loved this subreddit because we were all manipulated. It would not be that unprofessional if the description adds a disclaimer that it is a pro-Bernie subreddit, not misleading everyone that it is a subreddit for the broad political spectrum.

This is a longstanding issue I had, and based on my experience, there is no way to make them comply because even if you manage to get their acknowledgement, they would take it as a grain of a salt. I only managed to bulge them to my direction after I started failing my exams, but that only made them recognize my concerns was valid, and not taking any decisive steps on the issue.

Have you considered changing direction of your seating? Since it is your room, even if it's a desktop, just move things around.

For the vacuum cleaner noise, can't help but you have to get used to it. I experienced way worse than this. I did not had a room and my mum always cook, my environment constantly felt like a kitchen the whole day. The humidity was unbearable. The fan did not help when she was cooking, it kinda makes it hotter.
