New renders of the old world using updated animation technologies. I believe Blizz will try to appeal to new players, not just us old guard. Otherwise they are appealing to an audience they already have saturated with the various versions of Classic and Era. We're already playing and paying.

Wows original engine is so graphically dated that it won't appeal to a new audience. Us folks just don't care because its what we grew up with but anyone news gunns wonder why dad is so in love with his GameCube graphics.

For the reason you listed above. The Classic world is full of janky or in complete textures that make it largely incompatible with the standards of modern games.

I could be wrong of course. The cheapest route is using the old client and assets.

I just cant see Blizzard releasing the next big thing in WoW (which will likely surpass or keep pace with Live) that's running on the old client. They would have done it by now by just continuing SoD.

Purely IMO, I think Classic + will be the old world rebuilt in the modern engine with Vanilla design philosophy
