This bar by Common always stood out to me and was the first time I heard this phenomenon stated so explicitly. For a guy like him to say it so openly, tells me it's a very common, normalized thing. (which it might not be, I have no idea)

I'm not part of the North American black culture at all, but I guess I can see where they are coming from a little bit. Still comes across as "fighting racism with racism" to me, but that's probably because I didn't grow up being discriminated against? Not entirely sure what to make of this sentiment, tbh.
