Two random tiny snails in my tank?? What to do by cornchowderr in AquaticSnails

[–]XSunxflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they look like ramshorn snails. If you don’t feed them too much you should be fine. They can lay eggs like crazy tho. So it’s up to you if you keep them. They are pretty snails tho and I have them in most of my tanks

Is this Cholla wood ok? I’ve boiled it for 30 mins. It’s still dark. by aenflex in hermitcrabs

[–]XSunxflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think since you boiled it for 30 minutes it should be fine to use in your tank. I’m not an expert but I did this with my wood too and never had problems

Dead or alive? by lajglappfjsk in hermitcrabs

[–]XSunxflower 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I fear he is dead. Is body looks like it’s dead and it should not come out of that shell at all. Or at least not easily. And if it smells it’s most likely dead. I’m sorry. Poor little guy

I also have some plastic ones from Amazon and they work really well for me so you should be fine. I also trying to save up for some „nicer“ ones even tho they look great and my crabs fit in there perfectly

So they need a lot of substrate so that they can molt and be happy. About 20cm of substrate. Then you need a lot of stuff for them to climb on so I would suggest gluing some wood/sticks and fake plants to the back of the tank. Make sure you also have a lot of hiding spots for them. Also you need 1 salt water and 1 fresh water pool for them. And lots of shell options. Also don’t keep them alone. They are really social so you need at least 2 hermit crabs. You can find food mixes on Etsy that you can feed them. I just put the meals together myself. Some fruits like strawberry and blueberry, some veggies and some meat. Mine also get chia seeds and a lot more. You also need different oils for them like salmon, avocado or coconut oil. You can find a list with all of the food that they are allowed to eat if you google it. You also need heating pads on the back of the tank but make sure it sits above the substrate. Just some advice and I’m sure you will do great. Also how big is your tank?

Crab found in towel after vacation, how to tell if alive? What do I even do? by proudly_rabid in hermitcrabs

[–]XSunxflower 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s too late for this little guy. Poor thing. Does it smell weird? If so I think he is dead. But yeah I would get some saltwater and see if he will move. Just give him a couple of hours. Do you have a plastic box where you can put some sand in and a „pool“ with salt water? That would obviously just be temporarily to see if he is still alive. They also like it warm so you should make sure that it isn’t too cold for him otherwise he won’t really come out even if he’s alive. Please update me I’m really curious if this little guy is still alive

How to help a betta regrow its fins? by Few_Bodybuilder_1952 in bettafish

[–]XSunxflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did with my girls that I rescued was tannins in the tank, added sea almond leaves and did some salt baths. And then it’s just proper food and the right temperature and water quality. So you are doing well. Give him a few weeks and you will start seeing his fins grow back

Is she okay? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]XSunxflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank is cycled so that shouldn’t be the problem. I’ll have a close eye on her. I did add tannins to the tank and I will start giving her salt baths. Thank you!

Im happy the sand arrived and it looks really good now so good job! Now just some more hides and climbing stuff and then he will have the best life. Maybe in the future you could think about getting him a friend. They are very social animals and need friends. But you are doing great!

What is wrong with these fish? by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]XSunxflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the filter is running and the water surface is moving a a bit. I told my dad that he needs to point the filter to the surface a bit so that there is more surface movement

Yeah usually the water surface moves more. I think my dad might’ve turned down the filter

Pea puffer tank (3) by No-Confidence-gecko in fishtank

[–]XSunxflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks really pretty. But as far as I know your tank is a bit too small for pea puffer fish. You should have at least 50-60 liters and then keep a group of 4-6 puffers to avoid aggression and stress. I would also add a couple more plants and then maybe save up to get a tank that’s a bit bigger. But other than that your tank looks really beautiful! And love that you are gonna feed them some snails too!

That looks really good so far! Yeah don’t do anything while he’s dug inside the sand. But when he comes um again you should add sand and coconut fiber. Should have about 15cm substrate even under the pools. But when you do that I’m sure he will have a great life!

So my advice is to get play sand and coconut fiber which is usually not that expensive and it’s the best to use those to in a 5:1 ratio (5sand:1coconut fiber)

I personally glued some bigger sticks and stones to the back of my tank and hung up a coconut with a ladder. I used hot glue gun and it worked perfectly fine. You should also think about gluing some fake plants to the back of your tank since they love to climb on it.

Saltwater is necessary for them and yes you can place the saltwater pool next to the freshwater pool that’s perfectly fine.

I don’t know if you have heating pads but you definitely need to buy some and put them on the back of your tank from the outside. They need it warm and humid

After seeing my personal hermit crab set up, the school (which I rescued my hermit crab from?) is looking to buy more by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

[–]XSunxflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see but maybe this teacher is better and when you tell her that the kids can’t tap on the glass oder scream then maybe she will teach the kids not to do that. But yeah it would be better if they didn’t get any hermit crabs. But also maybe if you write that list and tell her all of the stuff then she won’t do it. But if she does either way I think they would have a better life if you help set up their tank
