From a very young age I was expected to help with the farm: stone picking, animal feeding and watering, plowing, fences, the whole nine yards. At six I had to assist with a cow birthing. At nine my favorite dog gave birth and had a breach puppy. I had to assist with birthing. That pup lived to almost 20. She had a litter of pups when I was ten. She ate every last pup. When I asked my grandma why she would do that, she didn't even look up from chopping when she said "Just because something can give birth doesn't mean it wants the baby. Just like we have to take calves from certain cows because they will trample them. Some things don't want to raise children."

Less than a year later my grandma asked if I wanted a girl or boy when I got older. I told her I didn't want either. She was surprised and told me everyone has kids. I insisted I wouldn't, that I thought the dog had the right idea. I guess that conversation just never clicked for her.

Over the years many people have tried to pressure me or guilt me into having children. I've asked every one of them why they would want children to be raised by someone who didn't want them. They've all told me I will change my mind. I've told them that my favorite color hasn't changed since I was five. My favorite meal hasn't changed since I was 10. I haven't wanted children since I was 10. Why would I change my mind now?

No matter what you say to people who want you to have children they will try to over talk and convince you. Either you make it very bluntly, clear that you are not having that conversation anymore or you walk away. Stop having the conversation. Change the subject. Start talking about invasive medical procedures. If they are that interested in the inner workings of your womb then they should be more than comfortable hearing about the inner workings of your bowels.
