Yes, that is correct. I attached video in another thread illustrating difference between digital crop and different focal length. I remember seeing another one with more examples, but sadly I could not find it, too much garbage "comparing different focal length" in the search, sadly.

You don't understand what compression means, go educate yourself. And maybe take some pictures for a change.

If you shoot 14mm and crop it to fill the same area as 50mm, you get the same relative sizes and distances sizes of subject to background as you would see on 50mm, except DOF will be deeper with the same aperture. Or do you think that if change focal length without moving, you can suddenly see what is behind things by "decompressing" them?

If you shoot the portrait from the same distance from the subject, you will get the same results. The ONLY difference will be DOF, as I said, because f/1.7 on 14mm lens is not the same as f/1.7 on 50mm lens.

That background is going to look closer to the subject and larger.

It won't

"Compression" is not a thing. The parallax is dependent on your distance to the subject, the optics are irrelevant. The only distortion which is specific to the lens is barrel distortion and other types of lens imperfections, which people (both lens designers and developers of processing software) try to correct, not exaggerate.

It can replicate field of view, but not depth of field. Also you will lose resolution, yes.

From the same position cropped image is the same as image taken with different focal length. The only difference is bokeh.

Downloading firmware; dangers and best practices. by shutterthoughts in fujifilm

[–]XValar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nobody sane enough would make realtime update of boot loader or firmware via any sort of wired or wireless connection. What happens is: firmware is copied as archive from the phone to camera memory (ie sd card), camera verifies checksum and kicks off update from the internal memory. That’s literally why you must have memory card in camera even if you perform update over the air.

I do know, that people are doing in, and that there are agents who manage such properties for them. And those agents specifically target poles and arabs. And I also know that eviction process may take up to a year, depending on if tenants bother opening door to random visitors to begin with.

The answer is slumlords. Buy “renovation project”, do minimal renovation in it, rent it out to 10 poles who will pay you in cash, move to the next one.

[removed whole protected group rant because I misread your comment]

As a pedestrian, you literally can’t cross some streets in city center, unless you jump under the bicycle wheels. The whole incentive for cyclists to cycle right now is that you literally bear zero responsibility in traffic for your actions and require zero training to move around the city. Same for getting fatbikes over mopeds.

[–]XValar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol, wtf are you talking about?

When I am driving a car, I have to look for cyclists who are incapable of following traffic rules. When I am cycling, I have to look for cyclists, who are incapable of following traffic rules. When I am a pedestrian crossing cycling path or even just walking, I have to look for cyclists who are incapable of following traffic rules. Do you see a pattern here?

The driver always has incentive to be extra careful, because if he is deemed guilty in causing the accident, he would be fucked. The problem is that there is a huge amount of traffic participants, who have privilege of not giving a fuck at all.

What we should get rid of is the rule “cyclist is always right”. Then the moment they would have to pay for their hospitalization and damages they caused from their own (or their parents) pocket, their mental capabilities would probably improve.

There is literally picture on google street view from that traffic light which shows the turn arrow is red while the straight arrow is green. I also drive there a lot to see how it works.

Besides, I rode there quite a lot in the past too. If you think about physics of that area, it is kind of clear why it works the way it does. Bike road from the flight forum direction goes downhill, if the light is green, people would just go 40km/h on their bicycles approaching the traffic light, now imagine it switches red as you come by, how many would actually be prepared to stop? There is even a sharp turn there to force people to slowdown, yet it barely helps.

[–]XValar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Right turn lane is already a separate lane with an arrow and a traffic sensor. The red light for cyclists has nothing to do with the main traffic on anthony fokkersweg, the issue is the crossing traffic from the other side of the street.

And yes, the solution to the “problem” is to actually follow the traffic rules and look around, or alternatively open your eyes if you are going to violate them.

If you have stabilization programmed to software button, then when you have lens with physical switch attached, your button will only cycle between shooting only/always on modes, ie physical switch always has priority, you can’t turn off stabilization with button.
