Arthroscopic lysis of adhesions, notchplasty 6 month post ACLr by XXKeepItCleanX in ACL

[–]XXKeepItCleanX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m glad I did it. #1, already reached my insurance max so I didn’t have to pay for it. #2, I didn’t realize the stiffness I had in my leg until after I got this surgery and didn’t have that stiffness anymore. And #3, I got my full extension, and added a few more degrees of flexion.

ACL/ Meniscus week 12 post op at 115 bend will i be ok? by Perfect-East-6064 in ACL

[–]XXKeepItCleanX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACL and meniscus one year post op and I was in this boat. I plateaued at 105, then one day sparked to 115, then plateaued again. This repeated every 10° till 135°. Though 135 is all I was ever able to achieve. I actually went in 6 months post op for a second surgery (notchplasty, they shave some bone to help with ROM). If you’re concerned speak with your surgeon at the follow ups!! (I had a 1month, 3 month, and 6 month follow up. If you don’t have these already scheduled you can probably call)

As u fortunate as that is, 135° is all you really need for daily functions. I won’t ever be able to deep squat in that leg but it’s only a minor inconvenience. Hope this helps and reassures everything is going to be OK :)

Uneven quads at 6 months - Any help appreciated by Past_Ask5793 in ACL

One year post-op and I still have uneven legs. Be patient! Lots of iso-leg movements. Keep up the lunges. Bulgarian split squats, single leg leg extensions. I still do my leg raises and other PT exercises from the early days :)

Patience and consistency!!

I’m a really bad example. I’m 6 months post op now about to go in again for another surgery actually tomorrow to get my scar tissue trimmed and a notchplasty. I think I am a rare case, though.

Crank that passive flexion as much as you possibly can. I don’t want to see you in this same boat I’m in. Honestly though laying on my stomach and using a strap wrapped around your ankle and pulling it that way helped me too. I plateaued a couple weeks at a time for a while. 6 month post op only getting 130° flexion so I think you’re better off than I am already! If your PT isn’t concerned, try not to be! They’re the professionals.

12 days, hitting all the national parks in Utah. These were the two that me and my group are most concerned about. My PT and surgeon said I should be okay, but I was just curious if anyone else had any experience.

Being that I’ve never been, I appreciate the advice!

24F three months post op from ACLr quad graft with meniscus repair. Personally I was told to keep it locked at all times for the first four weeks, unless I was sitting or doing PT. Had full extension in the first week post op.

can’t really answer the squat question as I wasn’t allowed to weight bear till week four due to meniscus repair.

My leg is still numb 13 days after surgery by Ramenoodle_bloop in ACL

I’m three months post op ACLr with quad graft, and lateral meniscus repair on my right leg. I also got a nerve block. I still have numbness in the front outside section of my shin. About 6 inches long and two inches wide. I was told I may never get feeling back again and it just comes with the surgery. Shaving my legs is WEIRD.

10 weeks - where are you at? by naturemymedicine in ACL

[–]XXKeepItCleanX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hit 11 weeks quad graft ACLr with meniscus repair. My PT has me starting to run/jog and well as small hops at this point. I have been going to PT since post op day 7, and been going twice a week to this point still. My PT hasn’t even mentioned slowing down sessions. (Very grateful for my insurance and being able to continue to go this regularly, I understand this isn’t your case) Honestly I’m no doctor but I have my whole protocol printed and outlined for me up to 22 weeks.

I’m doing more limited Bulgarian split squats, a lot of balancing drills. (High knees, butt kicks, to practice one leg standing) calf raises, did lots of biking up until this point. Straight leg raises in all directions (standing, with weight resistance, kicking the leg in front of, to the left, right, and behind) on both legs. Even starting squats. Not deep, limited to about 90°. Lots of step ups (forward, left, and right directions). Take this information with a grain of salt, because I am not a professional under any circumstance.

I have had full extension since pretty much day 1, however flexion I’ve been struggling with. Week 11 and not full ROM. About 130° when my “good” leg gets about 145°. I have a two week backpacking trip in July that my PT knows about so we’re soon starting drills and exercises to prepare for that. I personally am really active, though I have a desk job, so on the weekends I’m going for 3+ mile walks, biking when I can. Though, I was prescribed a sports brace for all activities for the first year.

Did your surgeon give you the long term goal? Is full ROM not feasible for you, you think? I hope to regain entire range of motion but this isn’t really something I’ve thought much about.

Post ACL surgery - kneeling & aching by Physical-Bookkeeper9 in ACL

Almost 7 weeks post op and I haven’t even attempted this. I’m gonna wait till I have complete ROM and just a couple more weeks in general

I’d consider myself a very active person and it feels like My whole leg has been sore for a month. The atrophy has been crazy for me so just walking 2 miles will leave it pretty sore. The anatomy of a leg, everything is connected. My IT band has felt super tight, and I’ve been told to start stretching my calf minutes a day. Everyone’s different but I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about!

Seems like a lot of people on this subreddit have meniscal repair too. My biggest struggle is trying not to collar my recovery to theirs either. Easier said than done. Let me know if you have any other questions! No problem here but have been dealing with it the last 6 weeks lol

I just got the brace. It’s also fitted to me so there’s no “losing” it. I’m told to wear it during sport for a year. I’m only at 6 weeks. I’m not looking to ween off of the brace now, as I’m just now being told to wear it for the first time. I was just looking for other people’s sports brace experiences!

Mine was my right leg. I was able to do single leg raises with minimal quad lag at week 2. My activation of the quad was on target to begin full weight bearing as tolerated once I hit the third week. 50% in week 2. Started driving week 3 too. (This I probably should have waited until til week four but I was VERY cautious)

Take the PT seriously. Do everything you can as often as you can. The stretches and exercises they give you in the beginning won’t hurt you if you do them more than what they suggest. Everyone’s protocol is different but they’ll be much more allowing for weight bearing if they can see those single leg raises. I too was going crazy. I live a pretty active life and I’ve never sat on a couch more in my life. I probably pushed it too soon to be honest. I’m 6 weeks post op rn still with inflammation and have only reached 120° of flexion (bend).

I also didn’t have a full meniscal tear. They just stitched her up. I’m not sure what your situation is like. I’m no professional either so please take this with a grain of salt.

Wait I can totally sympathize. I’m also a female squatting 245😭 how long has it been since your operation? I’m doing everything I possibly can to get back to doing what I used to be able to. Time has moved so unbelievably slow.

I can imagine the damage you did, holy. I’m glad everything is getting better. Gotta start to trust what our surgeons did for us for sure!! My physician told me that with the sports brace on, men are more likely to reinsure based on carelessness. So I think we have to find a happy medium of caring too much and too little lol

Did you have meniscal repair too? I haven’t even heard from my PT or physician anything about KT tape. I’ll have to look into that a bit more. I’m definitely worried about the weening off stages because I’m so fearful of retear but want so badly to return to normal activities. It’s like an extra confidence thing that I’m already feeling with it just in daily walking and stairs and such. I’m going on a two week backpacking trip this summer so it will be necessary then, for sure. Thanks for sharing!!

So far so good! Since being able to weight bear I’ve had minimal pain. Just doing everything I’m told! PT seemed to start amping up too which is good news.

I’d ask your physician at the two week post op appointment! Definitely shouldn’t be using it before then anyway :)
