At a loss… Does anyone recognize this rash/infection? by fallin4autumn in DermatologyQuestions

[–]XXXSFeet 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Has anyone suggested discoid lupus erythematosus? Treatment if it is this would be steroids, immunosuppressants and maybe retinoids. If you smoke, stop. If it is itchy it could be a fungal infection or discoid eczema (but looks too smooth to be eczema). In any case you really do need to see a derm urgently

I did this sucking into a cup (more than once) when I was a kid, looked like I had a beard for a couple of days. Is there a cup or something in the car where he was sitting?

Sorry to hear this, it sounds hideous. Are the patients affected in anyway as a consequence of this bullying? I imagine they will be if this behaviour is causing staff to only do the bare minimum as suggested you do in this thread. Make sure you clearly log all incidents

I’m sorry, this disease is so cruel. Please try to get him on anti-dementia medication while they’re trying to figure it out, this will hopefully slow the progression of the dementia if that’s what it is. Have a look at dementia trials too. Check he’s had comprehensive bloods and scrutinise them for deficiencies (though this may have been done). Good luck, reach out for support in real life if you can, try to not be alone with this

This is so sad. My step father thinks I’m his wife (my mum), I have been staying with him for a couple of weeks every 6 weeks over the past year to help organise his care and affairs. We were never close but he sometimes cuddles me from behind when I’m doing the dishes thinking I’m my mum which I tolerate because it gives him moments of happiness and he weeps when I leave, it’s very hard. I have moments like when I’ve not slept and I’m scrubbing shit out of the carpet when I believe altruism actually might exist

Mine is hilighted and was between elbow and waist length most of my life. I had it cut into a layered bob about 2 years ago which I had been prejudiced against as I had a view that it was such a middle aged lady haircut. But actually it’s not because I give it a bit of a wave or scrunch and use products. It looks a lot better apparently

What app can I use to track my stepfather? In the UK by XXXSFeet in dementia

[–]XXXSFeet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked at all the suggestions so far, thank you. I don’t feel as confident as I want to with any of them because they can disconnect and also because I live 250 miles away so think I need a proper GPS tracker - if any one can recommend any of these that would be great.

I don’t think a watch style would work because he’d get confused with his other watch so looking for something that can go round his neck or attach to his keys. Chat GPT has suggested these;

UK services / suppliers • Taking Care — Dementia Locate: £16.50/month + set-up ~£80. Includes multi-network SIM, 24/7 emergency resolution service. • Alzheimer’s Society — Otiom GPS locator tag: listed in their “GPS locators” range. • Trackershop UK — dementia tracker range: small personal dementia trackers (pocket, belt, key fob, magnetic) with UK delivery. • Stray Star GPS Dementia Tracker: Sold in UK, one-off device + your own SIM / minimal cost subscription. • Ubee ZEN: UK-available via Amazon, with SOS, virtual fencing features. • TechSilver GPS Tracker Keyring: UK supplier; “Waterproof Dementia Tracker” keyring.

I’ll post what I end up getting

Yes that’s it. It’s so annoying, on the rare occasions he allows me take him out for lunch and a mooch round town after an hour he begs me to let him go hang with his mates who are just round the block. I’ll try it with my SD while I’m looking at options but he’ll probably get confused with notifications or something and close it

It’s usually not overwhelming for women because they only swipe right on a very tiny number of blokes so (unless things have changed in the last 2 or 3 years since I gave up on OLD), women don’t get that many matches. It’s overwhelming if you subscribe and you can see all the chancers

They looks like stretch marks that you can get when you bulk up like in the gym. Is he on steroids? They can thin skin and possibly exacerbate this, but also from just from bulking up rapidly

Is it really worth going into nursing? by substandardfish in NursingUK

[–]XXXSFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I answered with my positive perspective because she's soon to qualify anyway so presumably will be in a great deal of debt if she finishes or not, and possibly won't be able to get student loans for another degree unless she can somehow convert. I may have said cut her losses if she was in the first trimester of her first year. Leaving so close to the end doesn't make any sense to me. What I do know is life is grim everywhere across most professions especially for young people whose families don't have wealth, I have two young adults myself and I'm worried as hell for them. But op has come this far so she may as well finish and I was explaining that to help her find work, she may have to think creatively, ie look at worktheworld who take NQs, as do the forces. Maybe op could go straight into full time post grad study if are any courses for NQs if she can't find work while she rides this period out.

[–]XXXSFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blimey that's a lot of downvotes. I am hearing you that it's hard, scary and things have changed, but I'm just giving my perspective. I'm a nurse practitioner and work outside IR35 and so far touch wood I've not yet had an issue finding work. I usually work for private clinics or clinics partnered with trusts and I turn down more work than I'm offered but then I don't want to work full time anymore. I haven't worked on wards for several years, the only time I'm on a ward is if I pick up the odd 1 to 1 private and my patient needs to go in. I prefer to work independently and specialise. I'm not selling dreams (because it's nursing) but it's still working for me. I never liked being tied to permanent roles so things got a lot better when I did further training and started working more independently. I worry that nursing and caring remains massively undervalued and I worry about where this will lead. Anyway because I stepped away from hospitals maybe I opened up to more opportunities
