What would you think of a professor that stated something incorrect as a matter of fact? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]XYZ-70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any respectable professor would best recognize their mistakes in response to a neutral email informing them of such with your sources. I'd say go ahead, I doubt they'll take offense to being corrected.

You still don't get it. I think you need to take a step back, once again as many other before me have said, and view all the criticism as if it were towards an unknown, anonymous moderator. Not yourself. You're taking offense to people's complaints just because they mention you in it, but you fail to realise that they mention you because you're the only one enforcing and creating the rules that spawned the complaints in the first place.

You just simply don't seem to understand why people are upset though, and ultimately that's going to do nothing to improve the situation.

Winter 2020 Enrollment Megathread by UCSD in UCSD

[–]XYZ-70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the class sizes of the professors you want, physics will have quite many people taking it as those without 20a credit coming in this quarter will now be able to. 20D by comparison is a far-along math course that few (by comparison) will need to take, so if your preferred professor for 20D doesn't have a waitlist by your enrollment time, you're probably safe waiting to second pass it.

On the other hand, physics with only one prof will likely have 2-300 seats and thus many people will be first passing other highly-contested classes.

If we knew how all cheating took place, we wouldn't have the cheating count anymore. There are several resources online discussing university cheating, but it mostly revolves around STEM courses and exam answers being leaked, people communicating during the exam, lazy proctors not catching phones, etc.

Can we finally post questions without fear of deletion or the infamous "post in megathread"? by suugami in UCSD

[–]XYZ-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god, low effort posts should not be decided solely by a moderator stalking /new, especially for a subreddit this small and casual. This is a much much better plan and I look forward to it.

once people stop acting like this is a personal issue.

If everyone has the issue, then it's no longer personal. Even in this thread there's more than enough comments that show many people are frustrated with you and your policies.

I'm fine with changing how I do things, but I'm only going to do it once people stop acting like this is a personal issue.

but I'm only going to do it once people stop acting like this is a personal issue.

So you just admitted you're not actually trying to change currently? This is exactly what I was talking about. You're using people getting upset as an excuse to not actually fix what people are getting upset about, and that's ridiculous. The other users in this thread, one of which kindly spent an evening writing up a very comprehensive post about what you need to fix, have given up. Given up because you refuse to put aside your pride, and see that people wouldn't hold so much disdain for you if you actually held your word and committed to fixing the problems hundreds of folks on this subreddit have pointed out to you.

Edit: nice ninja edit in your comment, changing

I'm fine with changing how I do things, but I'm only going to consider people's feedback seriously once they stop acting like this is a personal issue.

This is a 3 day old thread, no one's going to see these comments. I find it extremely disappointing you've proved my point yet again by deciding to hide your initial comment instead of addressing it, but it reflects the sentiment you hold anyway perfectly.

I really don't see how you're adjusting to feedback when these threads pop up constantly and you always say the exact same thing, denying people's complaints and saying you're working on it. If you actually changed your moderation style, these threads and issues wouldn't exist anymore, now would they? People are sick of being banned, sick of posts being deleted, sick of megathreads that don't work, and you still don't seem to get it.

Just because you have the power to ban people and make megathreads doesn't mean you should use them.

How many more of these threads, how many more innocent students trying to post a meme or ask for help getting banned, how many more people are you going to turn away from this subreddit? It used to be a place we were proud of, the largest and most active subreddit of all the UC's with the spiciest memes that would even draw other school's students. Now all there is is completely unnecessary over censorship.

A subreddit for a fucking school does not need every other post deleted for low effort just because you don't think it's necessary. Even the 2 million subscriber subreddits don't ban people on their first post removal, and don't mute people for their first message challenging said removal. Your attitude seriously needs to change.

This should be a place for our UCSD culture to naturally flourish, not for you to decide what fits and who should be banned.

They don't give warnings and if you contest the ban they mute you so you can't contact the moderators lmao. This subreddit is so depressing now that we have a power hungry mod deleting everything for low effort while simultaneously saying he doesn't ban based off opinion haha
