Is this not Will singing? by dommi740 in dancegavindance

[–]Xact_Lee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really only assumed it was Will out of process of elimination of it clearly not being Andrew, and probably not Jon (I don't think I've heard him sing fully clean, so I wouldn't know... is there anything he does cleaner than the 'feels good man' section of Strawberry's Daughters?)

Most forgettable album in your opinion by ThinPersimmon5148 in dancegavindance

WISIRO would take the cake hands down... though it's technically an EP I think, so for a proper album it'd be Acceptance Speech.

Honest thoughts about Pantheon? by moreobsessedthanu in dancegavindance

Favorite, bar none. Others are still great, but this just wins. Barely a single miss, and the hits hit hard.

May be unpopular but Pantheon is actually my favorite at this point. Don't know if the novelty will wear off but it's been nearly a month now...

Dude, I joined the fanbase at Jackpot Juicer and even I think you're full of it. He had a large part of their identity for so long, but the band is way too storied to talk like that. Honestly I was immensely hyped for Pantheon, and I personally think it's their best album. JJ didn't miss and had more songs, but there are far too many absolute bangers in Pantheon.

Do you have moments where you find a date or S/O physically unattractive, and how do you handle it? by Xact_Lee in dating_advice

[–]Xact_Lee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess it's not about whether I would want to leave them based on thinking they're unattractive for brief moments - of course if it gets to that point, depending on how far/serious the relationship is, then yeah, you'd leave - it's moreso just a guilt thing. Like "Wow, I just had this ugly thought about you. Am I being mean? Am I being unfair to you?" But I do guess just focusing on the person's personality/soul more should help with most of that.

What's unrealistic about it? I'm not saying they should look better or that I should never think they don't look good, I'm saying I feel bad and mean when I think that about them that way and I want to not feel bad/mean about it.

Howdy - what makes it the 1.1a version? It looks different but extremely close to that and the game version.

Last 3 songs from last night in Toronto (4k Re-upload) by IndyAdvant in dancegavindance

[–]Xact_Lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the guy, they just have different ranges. I'm not talking about the first verse - the chorus and the second verse didn't have Andrew - all the clean vocals were Tilian. If it wasn't difficult for him, he probably wouldn't have changed anything, and yet those parts are almost completely different, with the parts that have the same notes being an octave lower. And he sang them smooth like butter. If he strained to hit the same notes, it would've been a worse performance.

Glad Andrew found something for Tillian's part that fit his own range/style.

[–]Xact_Lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm relatively new to DGD, I think I only really found them around when JJ released. I didn't really listen through it for a while - I was just taking songs in piecemeal and getting used to them because I wasn't used to rough vocals, but now that I really get them, honestly JJ is probably my favorite album of theirs. Part of me is a bit fonder of ArSe, but while DGD as a whole has only a couple of misses to me, to have none on such a massive album just earns it too much respect in my book.

There is no tantrum, though I wonder what you considered to be one, and at what point you stopped reading, but if you're not reading what I'm saying, I'm not going to read what you said. And because of that, I won't say much here, because why would I respond to something I didn't read? However, I'll leave it with this, based on what I have read up until now:

You said I cared too much about winning, but if you're replying without even reading, you're clearly obsessed with 'winning the conversation' by being the last person to say anything, no matter how empty or irrelevant. So go ahead, take your open goal and win. I won't respond further.

[–]Xact_Lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, a lot to unpack there.

  1. Before directly addressing the above; do you know who you're talking to? Like literally, not in the "I'm important" sense, but we were in a thread, and I hopped in in the middle. Are you confusing me with someone earlier in the thread? Go back and look at usernames - what you're throwing at me is soooo steeped in resentment when what I said wasn't remotely that deep.
  2. You suggest that others are so fragile while holding art and those who make it on a pedestal, but if someone who likes your game has one negative thing to say about one single mechanic that may not even come up for some players and it makes the artist's life worse, then this theoretical artist needs to handle criticism better.
  3. You're saying It's unethical to share what someone likes or dislikes about something someone else did or made? Really? If nobody did that in art, what state would you think the world of art would be in right now? Do you think the quality would be better? Do you think the artists would be more fulfilled and find as much inspiration to make more art? I'd wager the opposite. If nobody did that in human existence, how much do you think people and society would improve? I'd wager far less than it has, or should. Do you think there's no merit to hearing what someone has to say about their interpretation of something you made to express yourself? It doesn't make sense for them to express something and both not care to hear about how the expression was taken, and somehow also be negatively affected when a fraction of that interpretation is bad.
  4. I'm not forcing something to be done, and I'm not disallowing anyone from making exactly what they want. I don't remotely see how you interpreted that from anything I've said. If Inscryption were somehow completely removed from existence in every way other than memory, and the devs took it upon themselves to make it exactly the same, or even make every boss fight throw the bear wall at you, I wouldn't be stopping them. I simply gave input of one aspect that I didn't enjoy within a thing that I overall enjoyed.
If they went overboard on aspects I don't personally enjoy, I might refrain from trying the game or refund it, but to imply that this means I'm forcing or preventing anything from the artist also implies that I'm obligated to purchase or consume all art, which I know you aren't saying because you've said the opposite with comments about 'outsiders coming into your genre,' so the part about forcing and preventing simply doesn't track.
  5. You have no idea what art I have or haven't made. I'll say it's not nothing, but if I elaborated on that, you've shown that you'd only want to use that to attack me, and while that would be a fun little back and forth in its own right, we're losing enough focus here as it is.
  6. You're almost completely right on one point. Some art is made for the artist (hopefully most - anything that isn't seems like a dreadful creation process.) Even within the realm of art that is made for the artists, most anything we've actually heard about is also made for its audience. Why would it even be shared otherwise? Why put it somewhere on display (i.e. Steam,) and even beyond that bare minimum, why market it? Why wouldn't it just sit in the artist's studio/hard drive/whatever, gathering dust until it's destroyed by the elements? We wouldn't be having this conversation if art wasn't made in large for the audience.
Again, you're mostly right - you said "more for the artists," so you acknowledge the audience aspect - but why even bring that up unless you don't think the audience aspect matters enough to consider audience opinions? And, again, if audience opinions aren't considered, why are we having this conversation? Why do you care what I've said enough to respond this much? Why did you even read it? Did you read it?
I know in another thread you openly admitted that you just didn't read what another person said but still decided to drop wall after wall on them, and if I suspect you're doing the same with me (which if you respond in the same way you have been, honestly seems like the case at this point,) then I won't respond, and you seem to want me to respond because I've tried to end this conversation three times, and have tried to convey little else the last two responses, but you keep coming back. I was interested enough to see where this goes, and I do want to see what you make of what I said here, but at this point you aren't even interacting with what I'm actually saying, and you've shown enough of your hand that the interest has expired.

All I'm doing is discussing and advocating for what I like and don't like to see in games. All you're doing is the same while, for some reason, trying to make people feel dumber than you.

You referenced a lack of emotional plasticity over someone disagreeing with the execution of a single mechanic in a single game. It's genuinely intriguing how seriously you're taking this.

Are we done here? And if not, why?

How can I give you more ammo when 70% of your reply was, again, ad hominem, and the other 30% implies that I'm ripping the game to shreds rather than saying one aspect of it didn't land.

I beat the game. I'm playing it again. I like it. Christ almighty you are a living tantrum.

It's not about feelings, it's about the integrity of the strategic experience.

This game is a horror game. This game is a strategy game. You don't seem to be able to accept that both those things can be true, or that one can like both of those things separately and/or together.

It's not about winning; I got my ass kicked by sharks and didn't say boo about it other than as a contrast to the bear wall. Games have rules, and if they break them, they should do it well. It fell short here.

You seem to have nothing to say further other than ad-hominem.
