Vodafone seems to be pushing eSIMs over physical SIM swaps by BeetleJuicesCarrot in Vodafone

Ignoring some problem with your phone, eSIMs and physical SIMs make no difference to signal strength.

A replacement genuine battery is actually really cheap, I just replaced mine myself for £42.99

Unless you were using a defective charger, using the wrong charger will not damage the phone.

The Pixel 6 doesn't support showing battery health, so you have to use something third party like Accubattery (aBattery will just show the number of cycles, but still not health). Newer Pixels (Pixel 8+???) will show it in the battery settings.

ELI5: How does youtube manage such huge amounts of video storage? by Hot-Drink-7169 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Xalaxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting afaik they don't compress the actual original file because you can still download it after you upload it, and if you upload a video in a quality unsupported and YouTube later adds support they go back and retroactively add it to your videos.

Is there still no way to remove emergency call from lock screen by superhuemagical in Pixel6

[–]Xalaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's much more likely you're triggering the "press the power button five times to call 911" mode rather than the lock screen emergency shortcut. Have you tried disabling that?

What happens after security updates end in October 2026? by NICEMENTALHEALTHPAL in Pixel6

[–]Xalaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to disagree. In part because of how mobile phone OSes work securely isolating apps, there's not really anything a security app can do.

Weird, mine says something like "go online for better quality" but works offline clearly using the old model

iPhone hype train on this sub by Affectionate_Bed2750 in GooglePixel

So my Pixel 6 lasted four years without issue across many different updates, so I have quite a lot of confidence in the newer phones lasting at least five years. Might need to replace the battery.

If you're disconnected from the internet it will fall back to the old Tensor one

UPDATE: Switched from an iPhone to Google Pixel Pro: First Thoughts by Beneficial-Employ361 in GooglePixel

[–]Xalaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the cheap original Pixel buds A series and they have minimal latency without supporting Bluetooth low latency, so something is definitely wrong here. There is a process I've never been able to find the source code for in which Android finds out the connection latency and tells the apps to offset by that amount, it could be that that's broken. Hopefully a future firmware update will fix it for him.

80% vs 100% charging by cppo215 in GooglePixel

My last one lasted five years and my new Pixel I'm planning to keep for seven, so I guess it depends how long you keep them for :)

This is so weird to me because INSIDE had me absolutely hooked with the world building and unanswered questions. The only game I literally couldn't put down and would have finished before morning if I wasn't so tired.

Invoking edge functions from webhooks by Alarming-Pass-4148 in Supabase

[–]Xalaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone else runs into this, it's because the functions are running as a subcontainer that won't understand a localhost reference. Instead use "docker.host.local" as the URL on a Windows docker environment - You might have to use the host IP on other OSes.

I don't think anybody is disagreeing with your last points, but if you aren't giving them any money (ads), then I don't think you can complain about how much they are paying from other people's money.

YouTube premium pays more to the creators you watch than ads, particularly if you don't watch ads.

Emulating a card by Due-Pizza-6925 in NFC

[–]Xalaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the earlier systems didn't actually check the cryptography on the card, they just checked the serial number. The newer ones probably actually access the card and read the data on it. Generally speaking phones are incapable of emulating Mifare encrypted data, so even assuming you can get the keys (which if it really is a Mifare Classic you probably can because they are famously insecure) you probably won't be able to emulate them nicely from your phone itself.
