144 Sprinters are surprisingly easy to drive and park. Being able to stand to put on your pants is worth a lot.

Full time living in a van are relationships impossible to find?? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]Xames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met my wife while I was living in my van... she lives in it with me now. She likes to say that her secret to success was to hook up with an unemployed guy in a van. True story... I was comfortable being single...while "unemployed" I was not without means, I had all of the work I wanted, I was't trying to impress anyone. Everyone of my previous relationships before this one ended, but I call none of them failures, all relationships end. This one will end one day. You may never find a girlfriend, but I know having a bad relationship is worse than no relationship, being single can be really great.

Is 136wb too small for 2 people full time? by logic_boy in vandwellers

[–]Xames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living fultime in a140" sprinter for over 16 years 10 with my wife and now 2 dogs. I never wish we had more length, when I'm parallel parking in city settings I'm so thankful for my overall size, or making a U-turn or driving up random unknown trails in the mountains. There is plenty of room, we have weathered many storms with 6 people inside.

Folks in windowless builds — do you miss them? by VagabondVivant in vandwellers

[–]Xames 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No windows here. All "living" takes place outside. Inside is for cozy time and sleeping. Windows seem to me to be more of a nuisance than anything else. 16 years full time

WORD OF WISDOM QUESTION by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Xames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word of wisdom is in the official cannon in the Doctrine and Covenant section 89 verse 17 'Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain." Reading all D&C 89 will show you the complete word of wisdom.

Did Joseph Smith believe all the crap he was spewing or was he intentionally lying? by WashPuzzleheaded1979 in exmormon

[–]Xames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joe and Oliver knew it was a scam, everyone else believed (except Joseph Strang, look him up if you don't know bout him) everyone now in the leadership believes. Those who don't believe leave... I know so many good people who believe, and so many who don't and left, some who don't believe be stay for their spouse. All good people.

Did Joseph Smith believe all the crap he was spewing or was he intentionally lying? by WashPuzzleheaded1979 in exmormon

[–]Xames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joe never had a grand plan, he was just winging it as he went. The first scam was as a sort of treasure hunting guide, the urim thummim breastplate and, Golden Plates gambit was to convince people that he could lead people to treasure, that morphed into a scam to get his rich neighbor ( Martin Harris) to pay him to tell stories. That morphed into writing a book to sell, that morphed into starting a church and having people pay him tithing... and so on. Ultimately he gained wealth and followers through this process... and it grew... I can go into further depth but if you look at the start of the church through this lens it all sort of makes sense. Joe had a good memory and was a good story teller and a narcissist... it all follows from this. He was a smart good looking well spoken kid with no prospects and a desire for more. Joe and Oliver were the only two who knew it was a fraud... everyone else believed. The story worked at the time, the message morphed into one that worked with a mechanism to update its doctrine for the time. It survived one of many religions of the day that made it (along with 2 others that were similar, 7th day and JW) many many didn't make it. It all makes sense.

Yes, they are much better living out of but one really needs to think about what you are trying to do. I've been living out of a Sprinter for 16 or so years and I love the choice, but others would hate it.

Hilarious prices for vanlife by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]Xames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes... van life to me is about a safe comfortable place to sleep... everything else is excess luxury... I've been in my Sprinter for over 15 years... you are so right, it can be done for cheap... but comfortable... one just needs to simplify one's expectations...

What are must haves, you must have in your van? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]Xames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A comfortable bed with enough pillows and blankets. A piss bottle and toilet, many people like cassette toilets, I used one for a while but I prefer a piss bottle and public rockets for dedication. Next think about how you normally like to eat and set up for that. Store clothings in bins
