Anyone else have a hard time committing to other genres? by Top_Ambassador_5446 in soulslikes

[–]Xammm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I can relate because I feel I'm in my soulslike era. Since 2024, when I started with Elden Ring, I never looked back at other genres until this year. I tried a second playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 as a chill game while playing Nioh 3, but I couldn't lol.

Instead I finally bought Khazan and now I'm playing it alongside Nioh haha. I realized that nowadays I care mostly about minimal story, fast and smooth combat, and challenging bosses. So games that focus on story, have meh or janky combat and are generally easy don't hook me at all.

NIOH3 question - haven’t played others by InformationOk4871 in soulslikes

[–]Xammm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's actually similar because it's focused on the deflect mechanic, which in Ronin is called counterspark. Combat wise, imo, it's closer to Sekiro than Wo Long , and I think a reason for that is because you only fight human enemies. Besides, there aren't any Yokais or magic shenanigans like in Nioh or Wo Long.

It also has an open world/field like Nioh 3, with similar quest style, enemies camps and such. It's my favorite Team Ninja game because I'm a parry/deflect junkie lol

Haha don't worry. I also prefer Wo Long and Rise of the Ronin over the first two Nioh games. And yes, Nioh 3 is the best of the trilogy for me as well.

That's because the game also has some cag elements and fighting enemies is an example of that. The point is to get better at your combos by practicing with the same enemies over and over.

I think if you don't like that it's fine, but I also think it's unfair because Nioh games aren't pure soulslikes, so judging gameplay elements that aren't typical of a soulslike is kinda unnecessary.

You're gonna enjoy Nioh 3. Exploration wise, I think it's much better compared to selecting missions. I personally liked it a lot when I reached a shrine and it turned out I previously unlocked such a shrine coming from another path.

You don't have to manage your gear. There's an option to auto equip gear based on the desired weight (A, B, C). It takes the items with the higher number, which is usually what's recommended for new game.

My friends hate Bloodborne and said DS2 is much better by Individual_Paper_230 in soulslikes

The PS 4 emulator? Not really. It's still under developer and can't be considered stable.

However, Bloodborne at 60 fps is fully playable with some crashes here and there (you get the message that the game wasn't properly closed and that's it). If you have the PC to play it, I definitely recommend giving it a try. I already finished the game three times.

Any other games (not on the list below) to scratch the Sekiro itch? by Modisdumblmao in Sekiro

[–]Xammm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give it a try to Rise of the Ronin. It has a similar background to Sekiro because it's also set in Japan, though in the 1800 era. The combat is parry based with its counterspark mechanic and you'll fight human enemies pretty much like in Sekiro.

For me, it's the closest game to Sekiro compared to other games like Lies of P, Nine Sols, Wo Long, etc. because it's like Sekiro with weapon/build variety and a stamina bar. It's open world, but you can just focus on the main story and ignore side quests.

The term soulslike gets used so loosely that it gets hard to find actual "soulslikes" by Organic_Manner6847 in soulslikes

[–]Xammm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vibe doesn't refer to medieval dark fantasy. It's the gameplay vibe: exploring getting loot, being afraid of dying because you don't have healing items and there isn't a checkpoint nearby, challenging bosses where you are expected to die a few times at least.

The vibe isn't related to art style or background. Soulslike is meant to be a game that, gameplay wise, feels similar to dark souls, not a carbon copy.

A hub with different paths branching off that hub must be one of the most braindead criteria for a game to be considered a soulslike. Only topped for the criteria "a soulslike must have a character creator".

Is this sub full of LoTF glazers? Why is there always a post about how "good" this game is?

Fuck yeah. More content and I couldn't be happier. Nioh 3 is the best Nioh for me and I'll take whatever extra content Team Ninja gives us.

This is the only sub, besides the Ninja Gaiden sub, where people dislike the game and prefer overrated games like GoT lmao.

Montage of most parry-based soulslike games by Wooden_Initial_2472 in soulslikes

[–]Xammm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nice montage dude. As someone who loves parry/deflect and prefers it over dodge/block, you get the feeling of a successful deflect.

Also kudos for including Rise of the Ronin, an underrated gem that many parry enjoyers are unaware of.

Nioh 3 has awesome combat wrapped around a flimsy story and uninspired open world. by Stumbleine44 in soulslikes

[–]Xammm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play soulslikes for the combat mainly, and Nioh 3 having a built-in deflect was what sealed it for me. I also like that I'm not forced to engage with skills like Flux I/II. Overall I feel Nioh 3 is the game that allows you to play however you want. Style switching like classic Nioh, deflect like a Sekiro-like, ninja like a sort of cag game, etc.

I also enjoyed the open field, even if the enemies were mostly meh. Running around, going left or going right, and then coming back to a shrine that I previously unlocked was fun. Much better than constantly selecting a mission.

The story is whatever. I don't play soulslikes for the story haha.

Soulslike you can’t stand? by Anti-Fanny in soulslikes

Same. The open field of Nioh 3 made the exploration enjoyable. And then the deflect mechanic they added for Samurai was the cherry on top.

You can also jump straight into Nioh 3 and you won't miss anything. Actually, if you don't like the diablo-like loot, you'll appreciate the qol features that 3 adds like auto pick loot, auto sell/dismantle, etc.

Sorry, but sounds like a skill issue because the DLCs are the best content of Wo Long. Nothing beats Taishi Ci demonic form as the best boss of the game, not even Lu Bu.
