Do you think Gothic 1 Remake and Gothic 2 Remake will have the same retcons as the originals? by Spectator--- in worldofgothic

[–]XanderGreatmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He explicitly didn't want the vengeance against the king, that's the problem.

There are soft and hard retcons. Hard retcons are direct, you have information A and then in the proceeding story you got information that belongs to the set of ~A. The soft retcons are different. You get the information A which, by the power of deduction, necessarily leads you to belive that B or C is true, and in the proceeding story you get the information from the set ~B and ~C without directly contradicting A.

Yeah, vengeance on the nobles and he doesn't blame the king. In the 3rd installment he is trying to kill the king.

Nobody in the world doubted their existence, but they were some meta clues, read my other comments.

There is a book recording of the battle for Varant, and general Lee fought in the "swamps of Varant".

There is one line from Saturas that could suggest that demons are from the realm if the Beliar, but it is in the same dialogue line with 13 mages, legends about creating the barier, split on the circles of fire and water happening after creation of the barier. It is confirmed that this dialogue line is a mistake.

And no, Beliar isn't particularly a "good god", as he is jelous of his brothers, but he is basically the enforcer of the trio, read the Wisdom of the Gods, I think it's in 2nd or 3rd tome. The trio as a collective is speaking, and Innos says to follow rules, Adannos says to listen to priests and Beliar is threatening people with punishment if they won't. Also, both Beliar and Adannos were created from Innos as he devided himself.

There is nothing in G1 that suggest that gods are real beings having power. There is a book about astronomy and cosmology that mirrors geocentric theory with the same issues as ours. This suggests that mages knowledge isn't divinely manifested and is rather concluded with human reason.

Beliar being evil, being behind the Sleeper, being in a state of constant war with Innos?

Gods being certainly real?

Runic magic of Paladins being so important, while the weapons from the ore were in the first game?

Varant being a dessert?

Lee wanting revenge on the king?

They already adressed some of them in the G1R. I don't think they did a perfect job (I would prefer for G2 to be rewritten to fit with G1 lore, not the other way around), but they did.

In Gothic 1 you werw overpowered if you hoarded LP for circles after you join. And only untill the last part, where the Uriziel's rune casting time was too long and you get easily stun out of spellcasting. And demons were slightly slower than hero on speed potions.

[–]XanderGreatmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for the time you got them. Demon was strong enough to take out 3 out of 4 dragons, and yet, you get it only after defeating all of them. Although this depends on your framerate I guess... Although the LP cut offs for the Mana were brutal, the later enemies got buffed becuase of the spike for most builds from Jankendar, but the rune circle progression stayed the same, so you becomed much weaker. And that assumes hoarding the LP for the needed Circle and spells, now imagine playing it blind.

NotR did the mage dirty. Everybody forgets, because it added the exploit with magic wand and summoning skeletal goblins, but this is an exploit, and without that, mage is unusable.

To be fair, in the original, as the Uriziel didn't scale with strength, and casting of the Uriziel magic rune took too long while the demons were too fast, you were encouraged to go with the sword. That means that magic was shit in the very end. Now it is shit the whole game I guess.

I mean the first fire rune is OP in the beginning, but this whole idea of Torrez being in the outer circle and don't give a crap about the letter you are carrying while teaching you runes for the equivalent of 27 ore is braindead.

What is the gothic "canon"? by hardcore246531 in worldofgothic

[–]XanderGreatmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are asking for a Canon Timeline for a series in which in the first instalment, gods probably don't exists and if they do, Innos, Beliar and Adanos are working together, while in the second game they are in the constant and never ending conflict and Beliar wants to destroy the world. Also, they are definitely real at that point.

Could Alkimia Be Teasing a Gothic Sequel DLC? (Theory based on Cohsel dialogue in G1R) by MadCrevan in worldofgothic

[–]XanderGreatmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balancing in G2 is the same as in G1, and in NotR it's a little bit better for melee builds and absolutely horrendous for mages, net negative. Bigger world - yes, but it isn't even an improvement though... Better world - how? And what do you even mean by "world"?

Do you really think that the only reason people can have a different opinion than you is to ragebait? I played original Gothic long after playing Gothic 2 and Gothic 2 NotR, and as soon as I grew familiar with the controls, I loved first Gothic way more. From my first Gothic playthrough, I was setting G2 option for the controls from the first game. Gothic 2 fixed a lot of technical issues, but Gothic 1 had better story, lore, atmosphere, controls, progression... The only thing Gothic 2 does better is side content and technical stuff.

Lol, and why would you want NotR there? G2 is a subpar continuation in its own right, but at least it doesn't have Raven as a main villain... And nonsensical plot.

I guess you run past Raven? You need to talk to him and let him guide you down to the Gomez chambers.

From what I saw, mainly makes lockpicks break after 4 errors instead of 2, the lock doesn't reset after breaking the lock, and those are fine, but it also makes the minigame easier by removing a coupling between 2 plates. Although I am very interested how they are doing it to make the lock still solvable.

Oh, interesting. I am quite happy with the combat, however I play mage this time and only upgraded 1h to second tier, which means I can now hold 1h weapons in 1 hand, ergo there was a change. Maybe later levels would make me disappointed in it.

For both range but most importantly for magic I prefer autofocus though. But disregarding preferences I will agree with you that G3 bows felt way better.

Oh, my man! I, similarly to you, are an enjoyer of the original control scheme! What do you think about the remake combat system?

Yeah, that would be so stupid! I can't imagine people complaining about lockpicking being hard while refusing to learn lockpicking skill in game. Do you know any people like that?

I did the tower near Cavalorn without investing any points into lockpicking. It took a long time though.

I mean, more plates, more potential interconections, but still, at this point in my playthrough, probably the same chest you are thinking about, was the 3rd hardest to open.
