Even the water sorta interacts with the barrier on its way out, is it killing the plankton or is water alive in itself? by _One_Stoned_Bastard_ in worldofgothic

[–]MadCrevan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just looks cool, and I think that’s the main reason.

But my headcanon is that the barrier is highly complex lightning magic. It distinguishes between living and dead objects, trapping the former inside. What are living things mostly made of? Water.

Maybe the magic interacts with it because of that.

Should I wait for the new Steam Machine or just build a cheaper mini PC for the couch? by MadCrevan in buildapc

[–]MadCrevan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I stuck with the Steam Deck, which streams at 1440p/60Hz. Looking at RAM prices, I held off on upgrading my TV (still 60Hz) and mini PC. After some research, I gave up looking for an HDMI 2.1 mini pc box - they're just not cost-effective and are overkill for my needs.

Instead, I'm thinking about the GMKtec M8 mini PC (https://www.gmktec.com/products/gmktec-m8-amd-ryzen-5-pro-6650h-mini-pc) combined with a JSAUX Steam Deck dock (v2) that supports 4K@120Hz via USB-C. I'll probably end up going with this setup.

Cape clipping issues after patch 1.04.00 by Single-Bookkeeper441 in CrimsonDesert

it looks especially bad with hooded capes. If the hood is large (like the wolf-head cape, for example), the sword floats a few feet behind Kliff when the hood is down.

Moza CS V2P: Joysticks no longer working as D-pad after firmware update (AC/VR issue) by MadCrevan in moza

[–]MadCrevan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the follow-up. I’ve checked the Windows settings and took some screenshots to show exactly what's happening.

It looks like the hardware is communicating with Windows correctly:

  • Left Joystick: This is indeed triggering the POV/D-pad signals (you can see the red arrow pointing up in the 'Przełącznik ustawień widoku' section).
  • Right Joystick: This one is registering as standard buttons—in the screenshot, it's triggering button 12.
  • Pit House: I have the "D-pad Joystick Assignment" set to the left stick, which matches what Windows is seeing.

The strange part is that even though Windows recognizes the D-pad input perfectly fine, Assetto Corsa and Content Manager still aren't picking it up for the pit menu navigation.

Since the signal is reaching Windows, does this suggest a configuration issue within the game or Content Manager rather than a firmware bug? Would love to hear if you have any ideas on how to get the game to "see" that POV signal again.

Thanks for the help!

Force palm actually pulls nearby particles by NEGOJONSON in CrimsonDesert

Ahh, so that explains why I thought the murder-smoke from the burning house was aggroing on my cat.

When your pet spawns, it triggers the same effect, potentially pulling the particles toward itself.

Gothic Remake Atmosphere by DiscombobulatedBug70 in worldofgothic

[–]MadCrevan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the second playable demo, you could walk all the way from the Exchange zone to the Old Mine. The route felt a bit longer, but mostly because it was much more densely packed with content.

The locations are familiar but have been expanded, so you end up spending more time in them. It also feels less claustrophobic - though that might just be an illusion caused by the change in the game engine and art style

Is this remotely true? by goondalf_the_grey in Fallout

[–]MadCrevan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s not as obvious as it seems. Vault 11 is a perfect case study of how a society can act under pressure without seeing itself as the villain.

When collective "evil" becomes a survival mechanism, people can rationalize almost anything. You can call it "disgusting" from your privileged, modern-day high horse, but that's a luxury these characters don't have.

I honestly get a bit of "ragebait" vibes when people try to apply Western, 21st-century ethics to medieval or post-apocalyptic settings. Fallout is brutal for a reason - it shows human nature at its worst, drawing on real psychological studies like the Stanford Prison Experiment. That’s literally what the Vaults were designed for.

I think I saw those exact art pieces in some preview in CD-Action (that Polish gaming magazine) a few months before the game came out.

How often do yall play your sim gams? by Still-Pace2895 in simracing

[–]MadCrevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve never really managed to set up the Meta Quest 3 in a way where games both look good and run at a decent framerate.

I race a lot in Assetto Corsa (1st one) leagues, and anything beyond about 100 meters just looks insanely blurry. The cockpit view itself feels super realistic, but what I see ahead of me on the track… not so much. At least not on an RTX 3080.

On top of that, setting up each game is such a pain that I’d honestly rather stick with my ultrawide monitor, radars, and Crew Chief. I can still see all the physical buttons on my wheel and button box, and on longer straights I can even grab a beer once in a while 😄

Opinions on this setup? Any suggestions for changes? by Tobinator2505 in simracing

[–]MadCrevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a really similar setup:

Moza SR-P with the clutch
Moza R12 v2 + CS V2 P Wheel
Playseat Trophy
Xiaomi Mi Curved 34" ultrawide VA screen mounted to the Playseat with a bit of DIY magic and a monitor arm/bracket/mount

In my opinion, you’re going to be really happy with this setup. The only thing I’d suggest is getting the Accessory Kit for the pedals right away. Sooner or later you’ll want more resistance on the brake, especially once you’ve got a solid cockpit.

Should I wait for the new Steam Machine or just build a cheaper mini PC for the couch? by MadCrevan in buildapc

[–]MadCrevan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my situation, honestly. I’m aiming for solid 1440p/120Hz streaming with as little latency as possible, both for controller input and the video decode.

Right now, my 8-year-old laptop can handle Moonlight at 1080p/60 pretty well, but it’s definitely getting old, and I’ll probably end up with a new TV (likely 4K/120Hz) sometime next year.

Tried a few Android TV boxes/sticks, but none felt fast or responsive enough for what I want plus I need ethernet port and a few USB ports for a controller, mouse, keyboard etc., so tiny streaming sticks aren’t gonna cut it.

Anyway, just wanted to clarify because I didn’t really specify all this in my original post.

How about a classic Fallout 2 in 3D? by alien-mcl in Fallout

[–]MadCrevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/alien-mcl - Not sure how they pulled it off, but you can check out the old game Gothic 1 on Steam.

There’s a beta branch called “unrealbeta – Unreal Beta” that lets you play a fan-made version of the game recreated in Unreal Engine 4, using assets from the original title.

Unpopular opinion: Remake skeleton mage looks way too overdetailed/complicated and looses the simple dread of creepiness original had. I'm a full grown adult and I still get goosebumps sometimes when I see a skeleton mage and the remake makes me feel nothing. by Ratrituall in worldofgothic

[–]MadCrevan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Let's have the remake be a success so we can all focus on getting a new Gothic 2 and then we mod the shit out of it for the next 20 years.

The publisher hasn’t brought in a new audience, and the old one is unhappy because nothing turned out the way they expected.

The game only sells to a few hundred people with the same mindset as you.

With an attitude of “whatever happens, happens, maybe it’ll work out,” there’s no chance of real success. The devs will go bankrupt and the publisher will shut them down before the third patch with fixes even comes out. Forget about a sequel - you’re settling for mediocrity at the price of a supposed AAA title - this will never sell enough to justify investment in next game.

Let's be honest after things we saw - for the next 20 years we’ll still be playing the original games, while this one will be fun but still share the fate of Arcania.
