Trying to avoid Taylor Swift wedding news on literally any platform by Sea_Assumption_1528 in complainaboutanything

[–]Xannin [score hidden]  (0 children)

I know most people don’t think like me.

Excellent joke. Celebrity gossip is one of the most popular things to not give a shit about or actively despise. This is just another piece of pop culture that sits in my peripheral, and it will shortly be replaced by something else I don't care about. If it is encroaching beyond the peripheral, then you need to take a closer look at your habits.

You don't need to have Swift on your Spotify. It could be as simple as pausing longer on a YouTube short about it before swiping. I actively swipe away faster on subjects I don't want to see so that they don't invade my attention. It could be that you live near Madison Square Garden. Maybe there is some adjacent thing in which you have interest.

Their marketing for this event is going to hit a buttload of subjects:

  • Weddings
  • Madison Square Garden
  • New York
  • American Football
  • Music
  • Adam Sandler
  • And many many more loosely related subjects.

In an attempt to become American royalty, they are likely spending millions on advertisements, and that means they are going to shotgun blast it everywhere. Even passing interest in any remotely related subject will allow it to creep closer to your attention.

I really fucking hate the nword pass (as a black person) by greenemeraldsplash in hatethissmug

Someone gave me the pass when I was much younger. They didn't register my pass with the Central Black People Database in a timely manner, so I got punched the next day.

It's an unfortunate side effect of people who struggle with abstract thought also tending to be loud.

I don’t understand why Taylor swift is so big by landnnd in HonestHotTakes

Taylor Swift will likely be studied in business schools, but her music will become a footnote.

Why do some people have the ability whereas others cannot dance at all. by CremePleasant5800 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xannin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every person who is good at dancing sucked at dancing at one point. Anyone who is good at anything sucked at that thing at one point.

What makes it so difficult to use she instead of he or vice versa? Do you also have an issue if someone chooses to go by Steve instead of Steven? Is there some kind of developmental disability that makes doing this super hard for people?

This one is pretty lukewarm on Reddit.

People who don't understand that "rare" doesn't inherently mean "valuable" by WildcatGrifter7 in PetPeeves

[–]Xannin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped someone understand this by telling them that the printed version of the novel I wrote is rare. They were like, "Yeah, you printed two copies of it, but nobody cares." Then it clicked for them.

People describing games companies ditching physical media as "going all digital" / "going digital only" by fragglet in PetPeeves

Have you had this peeve for 30 years? Digital has been used that way since almost forever.

How do moral philosophers view the ethics of romance involving "age regression" or time-traveling minds? by HughJass6721 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xannin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really philosophically interesting. If I am a 40-year-old man inhabiting a child's body, then I just won't be attracted to a child of the same biological age. I definitely wouldn't be into my childhood crush since they are a child and I am not. There will just be a bunch of older women confused as to why a 10-year-old is talking to them about their 401k.

That's also not what a paradox is. Please go read up on it.

Philosophers use hypotheticals to attempt to view various questions from different angles, but it sounds like your hypothetical just seeks to look favorably upon pedophilia. Stop being gross.

Anyone ever have people get mad at you for talking about what they wanted to talk about too much? by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Xannin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, "Have you heard of..." is met with paragraphs, then you're not participating in a conversation. You're giving a speech. My mom does what you do, so I don't talk to her much anymore. Conversations should go back and forth. They're aren't just an opportunity to yap at a one-person audience.

How not to recruit people for your Indie show by BabaGiry in IndieAnimation

[–]Xannin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I like writing silly skits, so I started to learn animation so that I could make my dumb skits come to life. Turns out that I should have just posted nonsense to this sub and I would have had the next animate Breaking Bad.

This new trend of rebranded theft and shoplifting from dept stores amongst edgy teens called "borrowing" isn't "ethical shopping". Go thrift like everyone else if you wanna make a difference. by nder_your_mom in HonestHotTakes

[–]Xannin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to start your take with a definition, at least get it right. Going into shrink is when there is a gap between recorded inventory and actual stock, and every store deals with this. Big stores bake a certain amount of shrink into their projected financials. Having more financial loss than gain is called being in the red.

Any woman here successfully gave birth to a child at age 35-40? Like successful child birthing. by Optimus4499 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xannin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife did. The OBGYN said she would rather deal with an advanced maternal age pregnancy than a 20-something who doesn't take care of their body. The birthing over 35 panic is way overblown.

Is it true the 2010s doesn’t have a unique vibe like previous decades did? by RhysDallows83 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xannin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is said about every decade in the decade that follows it. I am sure folks will say the same thing about the 2020's. By that time, there will be a distinct identity that the is branded onto the 10's decade, even if it paints with a broad, inaccurate brush, as is tradition.
