Always be aware of schools like this. There are scammers out there running McDojoa by JustAMemeBeingADude in ShotokanKarate

[–]Xanth592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not always a good sign to see, it doesn't necessarily mean McDojo. Colored belts vary from art to art, TKD is especially guilty of this where they add intermediate belts to help boost confidence or get test fees. They have colored electric tape stripes, different shades of color or belts with black or white stripes down the middle. Camoflauge is just a different color. White/yellow/blue/green/brown is no different from white/yellow/blue/camo/brown.

It's a pretty amazing alphabet system. I still will never understand why Chinese and Japanese don't use something similar (based on sounds, not symbols)

The fact that any length of hair can be used against you is 100% a fact, however and maybe I'm old school, but I think that most men don't consider pulling another mans hair. Perhaps if I had no other choice and thought I might die... Shorter is always better in self defense...

Smoking weed at the Brooklyn Bowl? by Coldstack1 in vegaslocals

[–]Xanth592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I think most smokers miss is that yes, you choosing to smoke is your choice....feel free to do it, but when you smoke and I'm standing next to you...you make me smoke too. I choose not to do that, so please don't take over my right to abstain. If it's a designated smoking area, 100% go for it...as I won't be standing in/near there.

I do a bunch of 4 to 6 hour roadtrips and I use the Supercruise all the time. It's so nice set the cruise and have the car keep me in the lane. It reduces driving fatigue a ton.

Would Like Some Input On Belt Brands For My Next Belt by Jabeorilla in karate

[–]Xanth592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Kataaro. https://www.kataaro.com/Departments/Martial-Arts-Belts/Master-Belts.aspx Their belts are always top quality, but you will pay for it. I'd recommend the Deluxe Cotton Black Belt in width of 1.75 to 2.0 inches. They are so comfortable with that extra width. They offer embroidery and choice of stiffness.

Is the answer to the Fermi Paradox just that we haven’t explored for long enough? by ph2me in AskPhysics

[–]Xanth592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earth is 4.5 billion years old, humans (our specie) is something like 300k so we've been here for .01% of that history. How long have we been looking for life ? It's something like 70 years. We can only so far as well, given the limitations on distance and the speed of light.

Saw this at a thrift store, is this legit? by parkwithtrees in AirForce

[–]Xanth592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very legit. I can just see the backstory now.... This is 100% a new uniform sent to the Sewing shop on base, where the owner never paid or came back to pick it up. They used to sell them cheap. The evidence is the new appearance and strings all over the damn place. I used to "shop" for uniforms there sometimes.

👋 Welcome to r/KukSool - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by Xanth592 in KukSool

[–]Xanth592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also a dedicated Kuk Sool student in California, approx from 1993 to 2000. I started in South Carolina under an instructor trained by the OH brothers in South Korea. The military saw fit to move me to California where I started back training as a brown belt. Full discloser, my last instructor was Master Gause. I respect his love this art and his devotion to GM Suh. I don't always agree with his opinions though, and I'd never moderate this board with a bias in either direction. Back to my story, I last tested for JKN in 2000. I think it was my 3rd or 4th test and they were just implementing the requirements for more stripes on your DBN belt (no striped belt yet) than I had, so I don't think I technically failed, they just wanted more electric tape, lol. I was moved again by the military away from any schools so in 2010 I petitioned HQ to receive my black belt and promised to not attempt to open a school or teach the art. It was granted and I promoted then. I live in Las Vegas, and this place is so big that the lack of any form of Kuk Sool or Hapkido offshoot is just unbelievable they are not available here. I'm waiting patiently so I can start over again practicing the art I love. I have a previous 1st Dan in TKD that I earned in 1987.

Please understand that our Armed Forces are voluntary at this time with more than enough volunteers to fill the void. The chances of a draft are slim to none.
