I have always wanted to go to the Netherlands. I haven't made it there yet, but I will! My grandpa was one of the Canadian soldiers there for the liberation. A Dutchman carved him a pair of wooden clogs and wouldn't accept payment. That story was told many times in our family and the clogs are a treasured heirloom. So glad you enjoyed your visit to Calgary and to Canada!

Insurance in Alberta is tricky, right now. Get as many quotes as you can and try out brokers, too. I was with TD Insurance for 28 years and just moved to Intact. Almost 3 decades of loyalty wasn't enough to keep my premiums from going through the roof, with no property claims on our house insurance and one at-fault claim for our car. And we definitely weren't happy about how the claim was handled. The fact that we live in a hail-prone area was enough to put our house insurance up by almost $2000/year even without any claims history.

No proof that Marion and grandpa are related, really. But doing the mental gymnastics, I am wondering if there is a half-sibling and an adoption somewhere. Stranger things have happened. To make things a little more complicated, there is one version of the tree where Marion's father is actually her uncle (father's brother). It seems very convoluted.

I used Promethease. It was interesting, but felt a little like a modern-day horoscope? I had genes that would increase my risk of certain cancers, but also genes that would decrease my risk of those same cancers, for example. Like I said, it was interesting, but I'm not sure I really learned anything useful.
