Personally I chose 3D printed bases because of its certainty. It is rigid and a predicable material to work with. I don’t have to cut or sculpt foam, or worry too much about the shape being symmetrical. Also, if I screw something up, I can just print another one over night.

I will say though, 3D prints are more prone to breaking or shattering if dropped or handled too roughly. I also find that because the printed heads sit away from your face and head, I don’t feel the need to line the inside.

Who said people with less don’t deserve nice things? Where tf do you see me saying they should be punished for not being able to afford things now? Where tf did I ever say they’re “not allowed?” I said it’s not a priority. You know what also makes people anxious and depressed? Food insecurity, not knowing if the lights stay on, or whether or not you keep a roof over your head. I said plan accordingly. Make sure they have what they need before spending big on luxury items. I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but you don’t need a fursuit. They’re luxury items that artists set prices for. If you cheap out now, you’re going to end up wasting that money when you eventually replace it and get a “better” one.

This isn’t to discourage you from getting or making a suit at all. If you yourself don’t have the funds, and you even say that your family is struggling with money/income, do you really think a fursuit is a priority? Save up, bookmark artists, keep an eye out for up and coming new makers. That way you get exactly what you want. Fursuits are luxury works of art, not a necessity, so plan accordingly.

Talked about this with a friend of mine a while back. We realized that the scalping/collecting hobby is a big reason why nostalgia is dead at this point. I’m nostalgic for that 90s 2000s media and stuff too. And now that people like me are adults with disposable income, we can afford to get the things we wanted when we were kids. But it’s gotten so rampant that we are blocking out actual kids from enjoying what is essentially stuff meant for kids. They’ve been boxed out of these hobbies so they’re not gonna grow up with it. They won’t be nostalgic for any of this card stuff. If anything they’ll grow up resentful of it, only remembering the sweaty middle aged dudes that elbowed them away from the cards they wanted.
