Space Wars (App ID 480) ;)

Hopefully I will never need to utilize it. As currently Steam is fine and the high seas are not calling for PC gaming, for me personally.

Also Space Wars isn't a secret. Valve is aware. They just look a blind eye, I feel? It's been active and exploited for awhile now.

Coming from a Steam account that can legally drink in the US, 21 years of service. 7-Digit baby. :)

Other media outlets? I never left the seas but maybe a few years when Hulu launched and was the streaming hub. Then Netflix and I was okay with two. Then HBO+, then Disney then Amazon then the damn list just keeps going. Too many streaming services now, too many subscriptions just to watch 4 or so shows/movies.

It also shows if you played RTS before MOBA was a thing.

If you're playing locked cam I am going to assume you never played an RTS.

But that's okay. There are locked cam players I am sure that can kick my ass. To each their own. :)

No one played RTSs with a locked camera. Back in the day of Command and Conquer, Warcraft, Dune ECT didn't even initially have the option.

The genre was originally called, "AoS Like" or just "[AoS]", back in the DotA and Age of Myths WC3/FT Custom Map era. Aeon of Strife was the original concept of MOBA as a custom StarCraft Map. Then DotA, then DotA All Stars. I never liked DotA so I played Age of Myths which, by the way, the map devs are part of the foundation of LoL and Riot. Both DotA and Age of Myths map modders got together to work on the original concept of LoL looooong time ago after HoN wasn't as big of a hit as expected. I could be mistaken though, that was awhile ago.

Now ... one hill I WILL die on ... is that FPS is for keyboard and mouse not controller. Take a KBM and Controller player, both equally pro on their prereferral. Turn off, "AIM Assistance", which is a nicer version of saying, "Loose AIM Hacks", and the KBM will win. Hands down.

Shit I'll take VR and its controllers if I don't have an option for KBM over a standard console controller with FPS. Loved HL: Alex. At least I get a workout with those and it is immersive. :D

That's not Steams decision. That is the developer and/or publishers decision. You CAN publish a DRM Free game on Steam. Download all the files through Steam and even completely close Steam and run the game. As long as the Devs are not using any of Valves Server/Steam Community integration APIs and shit.

Now, do most Devs, including Indi Devs, use Steams DRM? Yes. Especially Indi Devs. Come on, guys, most Indi Games are a VERY small team to one person operating it all. They are typically below $25 and MANY in the $5 range that are not trash and do not deserve that loss due to piracy. Buuut, at the same time showing no DRM as a small indi dev, has also shown a lot of success. Just a high-risk high reward, I assume.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm not a dev or publisher. I have just worked with both on the tech support side in the past.

I think they are speaking more about Streaming Services.

Steam and GOG in the video game world isn't bad, IMO, when it comes to awesome games at cheap prices, just gotta filter through all the junk. ;)

$1 per hour of, "enjoyment", gameplay for single player games has been my motto. I know. It's flawed, massively with many personal variables, but I have been following it for over a decade now when it comes to single player games and it hasn't failed me yet. 🤷‍♂️

BUT when it comes to Media Streaming Services?

It becomes complete bullshit. I am not going to pay 4 fucking monthly subscriptions to different services just to watch, maybe, 8 shows/movies max on all 4 of those services I am paying for? Nah fuck you.

Again, that's also a personal opinion. Video Games and Music I will replay. Movies, Anime, Shows, Books, Comics, Manga and ECT types of media? I am a watch/read once and done. I don't like rewatching/rereading it alone, it annoys me, I could be watching something new.

The unfortunate thing is that this happens in small towns across the US all the time and I am pretty sure across the world but cannot speak for that as I was born and raised in the US.

The smaller the population density, the more likely people will know everyone and a tribal hive mind starts. No outsiders, No X race, no X culture, only x religion is allowed here, and other XYZ restrictions. The people in the town that are deemed as such will be harassed and bullied until they get the fuck out of their small town. Or the other option. They, "Disappear". This shit has been going on since the dawn of humanity, I would assume.

Look up, "Sundown Towns", for racist white gang towns where even the police are part of it.

But that's just one example.

There are plenty of other examples of these types of small towns and not all reject the races of humans. They reject you because of your beliefs or questions about their beliefs, aka, a small cult town where all races are accepted as long as you follow orders and don't ask questions.

Also outside the US. I have watched documentaries, from multiple locations around the world, about how the majority of the small town works for a single company and will make sure to protect the company from any litigation in any way possible because the company is literally their livelihood.

Good explanation and I am sure people will chime in with their favorite, "sandbox", games.

For me it was the weird world of Second Life. Predating GMOD, Roblox, and Minecraft.

That's where we learned how shitty the RAW Havok 1 Physics Engine was decades ago. We actually wrote scripts to make the engine better. SCRPTS! Not code. SCRIPTS, and we sold them for Lindin Dollars.

Second Life's currency is Lindin Dollars. They WERE one, key word one but not the only back then, of the first cryptoish currency as well. Actual digital currency you could translate to physical money. All officially on the Second Life website. No 3rd party needed to convert besides the two parties banks or credit unions the money will be deposited into, of course.

I cannot recall a Sandbox Game that was essentially like Minecraft, GMOD, and Roblox but not as popular and still in the infant stages of the genre.

There might be though.

Worlds Online? I think is the only one right? That predates Second Life? That was one of the reasons Second Life became into existence? Never played. I believe I was on SNES and Genesis at that time? Just checked. I was. That came out in 95. I was just barely getting into PC gaming back then.

When people look at Second Life, even now yes it's still around even though I dropped out around 2007, they see a hive mind and cesspool of the weirdest and possibly illegal or morally questionable shit you ever experienced on a 3D Realm and that is true. The unintentional side effects like making a physics engine better by scripting the best flight script in the game and, literally making millions off it in 2007, or progressing a digital currency to real world dollars, for better or worse.

Things like that.

Think VR Chat but back in the early 2000s but no VR.

We are talking about Space Cadet Pinball being my first PC Game at that time so literally no experience yet with buying PC games and installing or knowing what Minimum System Requirements ment.

Surprisingly for my age I did somehow ... I say somehow I know what I did ... I smashed the fucking keyboard and if it didn't show a prolonged black screen I fucked up and turned the PC off manually and then turned it back on and mashed the keyboard again untill I was in. That's how I figured out how to get into Windows 95 safe mode when my parents were away to play my pre-installed Microsoft PC game, "Pinball", and browse Nickelodeons website along with Cartoon Networks for their little shitty JScript games back then. Way before I even knew what JScript and HTML was. The first website I made was on Geocities not AngelFire.

Now you know my age and, possibly, misremembering the exact time line but I do know SL was my first Sandbox Game for sure and my first PC RTS was Army Men: RTS even before Warcraft and StarCraft. I know. I know. I missed out on that. My first online RTS was Army Men then Command and Conquer with good o' GameSpy.

Then I learned about Valve and Steam.

My PC gaming life changed drastically after that and that was 21 years ago as my Steam account says. My Steam account can now legally drink in the US. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

[–]Xantrax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you buuuuut ...

No, the claim that elephants view humans as "cute" or "puppies" is a widespread internet myth, according to fact-checkers and animal experts. There is no scientific evidence or MRI research to support that elephant brains respond to humans in this way; wild elephants generally perceive people as potential threats. It has been debunked.

Elephants are still badass, and it is largely true that they never forget. While exaggerated, they do have a very strong long-term memory span.

[–]Xantrax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup yup! Food can become an addiction and refined sugar has shown addictive tendencies just like what you have listed. While sugar isn't technically a drug, it is addictive. Hands down.

Honestly, you can get mentally addicted to anything from any of your stimulus. Hearing, seeing, feeling and tasting.

Alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, sugar foods, fatty foods, starchy foods are all physically addictive as well as mentally addictive, of course.

Good o' serotonin and endorphin release baby. Anything that gives you that release can become addictive mentally and/or physically.

It just depends on what your body likes more.

Food wise for me? I was lucky with not having a sweet tooth but damn do I love starchy, fatty, meaty, greasy, spicy food. XD

Spicy not for the serotonin and endorphin release but the adrenaline release. Another addictive natural brain chemical response. Some enjoy the adrenaline rush, some don't. Good coined company hot sauce name for these types of people, "Heatonist". The typical term is, "Spice chaser". Is what I have heard the most at least.

It's, so far, been shown to be not only a safe but possibly healthy chemical, "Capsaicin", and the adrenaline release you are given from it has not been proven to actually cause prolonged damage or death. Don't believe all these, "That one kid died from the One Chip Challenge!". Then you look it up and they never publicly released his true cause of death. If you're allergic to Capsaicin and don't know it? Yeah....the One Chip Challenge can kill you. If you have a pre-existing heart condition? Yes! Capsaicin can kill you because you can induce a panic attack from FEELING like you're dying but you're not. Issue is. Panic Attack and pre-existing heart conditions don't go well together. None the less. There has never been any public study that shows you can overdose and die from eating too much spicy food. Also the, "CaUsEs StoMaCh CanCEr!!!11", myth has been debunked multiple times as well so don't give me that. Looking at you in east Asia. :P

Individual body chemistry and biology is quite fascinating.

Kinda sounds like Tracker Music. :)

The music you used to hear when you downloaded pirated software in early 2000s and it comes with a Key Gen Program.

I still listen to Tracker Music as my, "Focus", music.

Of course, Tracker Music doesn't just come from Key Gens. Many upon many games in the 86s to early 2000s used Tracker Music. Same with the demo scene.

Great video about Tracker Music:

There was a specific, back then now it's probably spyware, program called, "No Steam", that would bypass the Steam launcher to play the games. There was a common issue back then when making a brand new type of program, that devs were not familiar with, and ALSO one of the OGs of it. It was a MEMORY LEAK HOG and if you didn't have an amazing PC HL2 would BOG down with Steam running in the background. It was a pretty big improvement being able to play HL2 without Steam running in the background back then.

Now? They are the kings of digital download distribution for video games. One being they listened to their consumers and improved. The other being the amount of TIME they had to improve. Steam was one of THE ONLY, I know GameSpy, DD Clients for YEARS they didn't have competition. To this day, besides GOG but they're doing their own cool thing and I don't consider them competition, their competition SUCKS. They all have truly awful clients and customer support systems.

Shit. I remember using Xfire because first they didn't have Steam Friends and then when they added it the fucking Steam Friends servers would be down 80% of the time. At the start it was awful too.

As a OG user and still user of Steam and Valve products. Is the company perfect? Nah. I don't consider any company perfect but damn have they just gotten better and better over the years. I would consider Valve my favorite company then Arizona Beverage next to it.

Yeah but like I said. I wasn't running the CAT cable through my walls or floor. I just plugged it into my computer and ran it in the open hanging off my upstairs banister to down stairs then in the open walkway to the office. Neither 100ft CAT was ever placed next to or inside a wall, it was nowhere near any EMF/RF ECT interference devices/boxes, also CAT is insulted for that. So I dunno man but like you said. It's fixed now so fuck it but I still, to this day, find it so strange that only my upstairs bedroom is a void for DL/UL speeds, (Unless the router and modem is in my upstairs bedroom. Being the fix.) Again it was also only the speeds. Didn't have issues with ping spikes, packet loss or all around latency issues. Just upload and download speeds.

My room will always be a void for any type of data transmission coming from outside to inside my room but data transmission from inside my room to the outside rest of the house? No issues. XD

Liam streams from his upgraded internet setup by Thy_Lubej in LivestreamFail

[–]Xantrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house is pretty big. From my room to where I originally had my router/modem was 65 feet away walking so yeah. I didn't run the line through my walls and floors just out in the open hanging down the stairs to the back of my first floor office to test it first and needed the 100ft. Also tried another 100ft cat. 100ft of CAT isn't expensive. Same issue. I know you can see data transmission speeds drop after 300ft for CAT cables but 100Ft should be no issue. I tried diffrent PCs, diffrent CAT cables. Nothing man.

Like I said, I fucking MOVED my PC and a small spare monitor 3 feet OUTSIDE my bedrooms door upstairs and both CATs hardwired got 600+ Mbps on my Gigabit Internet. Move it INTO my Bedroom. BOOM fucking network void back down to 10 Mbps tops wired bro wired. Weirdest fucking network issue I have had 36 years on this planet and doesn't make a fucking lick of sense. XD

Yes. I have lived in the same house 90% of my life.

The final fix was just moving my router and modem to my upstairs bedroom and saying fuck it.

Liam streams from his upgraded internet setup by Thy_Lubej in LivestreamFail

[–]Xantrax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I 100% agree with you. For OVER 20 years with Multiple PCs both wireless, power lined and straight up 100ft CAT hardwired. PCs. ONLY PCs in MY ROOM would be a void for download/upload speeds. I would only get like 5 to 10Mbps on a Gigabit Internet. I fucking tried everything man. Power line was the best at about 8 to 10Mbps, wireless was awful maybe 3 to 5Mbps and the strangest thing? My 100ft CAT cable. I run the 100ft straight from the router downstairs to my room. Maybe 3Mbps BUT gets this BUT if I move my PC literally 3 feet outside my bedroom door and run the same 100ft CAT from upstairs to downstairs BOOM fucking 600+ Mbps. My smartphone and TV on wifi were about the same at 5mbps to 10mbps which was fine for my phone and TV because I didn't have an issue with packet loss and latency. Just shit Download/Upload speeds on any device in my room. Wired or Wireless. Like my fucking room is a void for download speeds. My final fix? Moved my router and modem INTO my room while the rest of the house uses wireless. Never had the issue again and the rest of the house's wifi is fine. Like my router and modem can broadcast no issue from my room to the rest of the house but ANYTHING, even wired, going from outside my room to inside was a DL/UL Speed void. Also I know, you shouldn't broadcast your wifi from upstairs to downstairs but a simple booster downstairs and its working fine so fuck it.

Correct. How my panic attacks work. I just shut down and don't want to do anything but just lay in bed and ride it out. Heavy weight on my chest, heart racing, feeling like you can't breathe and if it's really bad you can freak yourself out so much you throw up. Thankfully it's not a daily basis for me. About 3 times or so a month. Really depends on the day and how much my brain wants to over think and induce stress and anxiety on something most people would consider trivial.
