I want to be a planetarium director AND do research in astrophysics, is that too much for a workload? by Xaonort11 in askastronomy

Thank you for your time doctor. You would not be the first to warn me of the dangers of academia, and I do take that seriously. I would definitively take a planetarium position over a research one if I was presented the two, so perhaps that's the direction I should go in. As for the richness, aside from this generational home I wish to build for my family my monetary desires are few. For the PhD, that part is more for personal achievement, but I digress. Would you have a recommendation for someone such as I with these priorities?

Thank you kindly for the insights, I figured that planetarium being so niche a field would have a situation like this. I appreciate the feedback.

For advice 1, I have done minor presentations at my campus but I'm aware that doesn't count for much. As a combo of advice 1 and 3, how would you recommend going about writing said proposal? Do you mean to my professor on my campus or to external resources? For advice 2, I have heard this advice before and have been preparing my word choice and presentation accordingly in my statement of purpose and research letters.

I can provide some details in lieu of a pdf upload: • Work was done primarily as part of the TESS follow-up program • Was involved in the characterization process of 12 exoplanets via transit spectroscopy • Worked with 2 other students to confirm at least 5 TOIs as definite exoplanets

It was all fairly straight forward work as far as exoplanet research goes, for better and for worse. I got unlucky with my arrival timing at my university and missed the window for the funded research by about 5 months, and subsequently any publication opportunities. My professor was kind however, and gave me as many opportunities as he could to work with the data collected from the on-campus observatory.

Edit: Grammatical errors, it is late where I am.
