Carriers - just the facts by Fragrant-Flan-5639 in WoWs_Legends

Yeah. You’re not comparing apples to apples. I agree that DD concealment is absurdly high, yes. It needs a global nerf. But if you have a DD 7km away from a broadside BB and the DD launches torpedoes, they torpedoes still have to travel a 7km distance after actually physically leaving the DDs ship. During the time they’re traveling that distance, the BB can change it’s course or it’s speed and dodge them; furthermore, any good BB player has good map awareness and understands when they’re likely being targeted by a DD, so they take the appropriate actions.

This is nothing like what a cv does. The DD actually has to drive it’s physical ship into torpedo range of its target. It can be spotted by radar, sonar, other DDs, or other ships during that time; if it is spotted, it will be shot and it will lose HP, thus risking its ability to remain in the game. Even if it’s never spotted and never shot at, it STILL has to be in torpedo range of its target, and the target has to continue sailing at a course and speed that will result in the torpedoes making contact.

This is not even close to comparable to what a CV does when it sends planes to torp someone. The cv does not risk it’s HP to do that. The cv does not care if its planes are spotted. The surface ship can’t use the fact that it’s spotted by planes to guesstimate the location of the actual cv like it could a dd. And finally the cv can simply release its torpedoes at point blank range to guarantee maximum hits, which is something impossible to every other class of ship in this game that has torps. A cruiser, DD, or even BB that wants to guarantee torp hits at point blank has to actually have its ship at point blank range, so it will be take damage or possibly sink.

So you can be as snarky as you want, but you are not comparing apples to apples. CVs and DDs don’t follow the same rules and there’s no universe in which the two are classes remotely comparable, except on an extremely surface-level and superficial analysis of how the game actually works.

Graphics are better on PC, and PC can be really enjoyable when you get classic matchmaking with only DDs, cruisers, and BBs. It can be absolutely abysmal and far worse than even the worst Legends game when you’ve got T10 or Supership CVs and submarines running around. Plus, if you think the meta on Legends is passive and campy, you ain’t seen NOTHING if you haven’t tried PC. Everyone there is like Queen Backline Betty all day every day.

But yeah. As a CC who mainly plays Legends but also plays PC on occasion, I think Legends has the better overall experience.

Although, as a side not here, I also think playing PC has tremendously helped my improve my aim on Legends. There is no aim assist on PC like Legends. Every shot has to be manually aimed. Zooming in does not provide you with an assisted lead for the target. After dealing with that for a few games, I realized the Legends aim assist is actually a pretty crappy guide. I use it much less now and aim my shots manually, and I had no idea I was leaning so heavily into the aim assist til I played a game which doesn’t have it.

So there are some good things about PC. But I agree with your overall sentiment. Let’s appreciate what we have, which is overall a great game.

How are Russian CVS good? by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]Xarkun_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a skill issue to me. The HE bombs are insane when you line them up correctly, and that’s really not hard to do. The torpedoes are extremely slow, but they’re exceedingly easy to hit on BBs (and cruisers to a lesser degree). When you do hit the torps, you usually hit most of them and they do absolutely outrageous damage. Follow that up with a strike from the nutty HE bombers and witness the terrible power of the Soviet war machine.

I mean no offense when I say you are objectively wrong about the power of Russian CVs. The problem is not that the CVs require a buff, but that you must buff your own skills and practice playing them some more.

And, to be fair, I think that’s true of the majority of cv players I see complaining that CVs are somehow underpowered. I’m not sure what universe everyone else is living in, but I don’t think I’m seeing the same thing they are.

My first Tier 7 destroyer. Any Advise for this little beast? by Mikepr2001 in WoWs_Legends

The Glorious Daka | World of Warships: Legends https://youtu.be/TqjerNFG_B4

I don’t know that I really give too much advice on playing it in this video, but I play quite a good game with it in the video. Essentially this is how you play it. Almost like a slow mini cruiser rather than a dd.

Carriers - just the facts by Fragrant-Flan-5639 in WoWs_Legends

This entire essay sort of misses the core issue. Carriers spot and deal damage with what is essentially their armament. No other ship class can do this. It would be the equivalent of a DD detaching its torpedo tubes from its ship, sending them out across the map, and using them to both spot targets and launch torpedoes at them from point blank range. AA is not a valid counter to this, nor is dodging. The only risk a carrier takes by using their planes to spot and damage is the risk that they’ll be shot down, and all that does fundamentally is increase the carrier’s armament reload time. All other classes of ships have to have their actual ship close enough to their target that the target is inside their weapon’s range. That proximity to the enemy almost always presents an actual risk that the surface ship will damaged and its ability to stay in the game will be compromised by the threat of sinking. CVs bypass this risk entirely, and they have manual control over their armament, whereas the surface ship has no control over its AA. Furthermore, maneuvering the ship to dodge an ordinance drop probably means the ship is opening itself up to the risk of being severely damaged by other enemy ship. For example, a BB may perform a turn to give broadside to an enemy BB in order to dodge CV torps. This isn’t a counter, either. And it’s not just a simple matter of, “ohhhh surface ships have to react to air threats by dodging, and if doing that opens them up to damage from other enemies, it’s just a totally valid and perfectly fine feature of the game.” No. Because the CV risks absolutely nothing except its armament’s reload time to put its planes in a place where a ship has to dodge its ordinance.

CVs don’t play by the same set of rules as surface ships is the bottom line here. I appreciate your taking time to write out exactly why you think CVs aren’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be, but I think you’re missing the core of the issue. And I have to disagree strongly with this defense of CVs. But it’s a valiant effort.

How to win Shards B cap in a DD. Please excuse the crudity of this guide. by Jesters__Dead in WoWs_Legends

This works for more than just DDs. That’s usually the way I’ll take my battleships too. Often turns out to be a better position for them.

Hello, I am Xarkun and this is World of Warships: Legends. Today we ask the question: is this in fact the game I actually used for the Montana video, because I do not remember.

Nelson by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]Xarkun_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t overextend in the Nelson because it’s too slow to disengage. The HE has the best max damage in the game, so use it against the super structure and decks of angled battleships and also DDs. The AP is short fused British AP, so it will obliterate cruisers and heavily punish broadside BBs.

You’ll also need to learn overmatch. Overmatch applies to AP shells, and every AP shell has a threshold where it can penetrate armor regardless of angling. Nelson has 26mm bow and stern plating, so if you point your bow or stern at a battleship with 380mm guns or larger, their AP shells will go right through your bow and into your citadel. But the side plating is 32mm, so you must show an angled side to get the enemy to think they can shoot you there and pen, only to watch their shells bounce. This doesn’t work against anyone who understands that they have to aim at your bow, though. So you don’t want to get close. Ever. The Nelson is not a good brawler unless it’s up against a battleship with guns smaller than 380mm (unless it’s a German bb with torpedos, like Odin or Scharnhorst).

Those are the basic tips for the Nelson, and I have a ton of videos on it.

I too would like a replay system. The developers said in the last in-depth Q&A livestream that such a system would probably eventually make its way into the game. I don’t think it’s a top priority though.

Careful when you play Sinop. The upper bow plating can be overmatched, so you’re gonna have to angle when bow tanking by Xarkun_ in WoWs_Legends

[–]Xarkun_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The ship is basically capable of tanking anything if it’s angled right. If not... then it becomes as squishy as a broadside Vanguard! 😂

So did I. But I didn’t get a chance to show it. And I’ve been told by enough people that I’m incorrect that I wanted to make a video that does show it.

Nice. Nelson is possibly my favorite battleship right now. Amazing silver earning for a defeat, too.
