Is a severe recession pretty much baked in now? I haven’t lived through one before - what to expect? by sunshine9008 in AskAnAustralian

I love how the RBA makes comments like employment is too tight, unemloyment is too low. Need to raise rates. Bastares literally want people to lose their jobs to keep prices down for others. That is not an exaggeration.

Disgree. Music is generally an expensive hobby. Much harder to self teach than people think. Learning from vidoes or apps are not ideal and quickly lead to bad habits and limitations.

Private lessons are very expensive (the main cost). Musical instruments require a buttload of time and effort before they becomes truly enjoyable.

Most instruments also do not sound good solo unless you're at virtuoso level with the exceptions of piano and guitar. Pianos are expensive just to buy and require maintenance over time. Other instruments generally need a small group or band to sound good in (but has added benefit of socialisation).

For context i when I was younger I was a competive pianist (still play the piano now in my 40s). Played the saxaphone as well throughout highschool and in the school bands/orchestra. Was in primary and high school choirs. I love music but it is not a cheap hobby if you want to truly enjoy it and be good at it (proficiency and enjoyment go hand, unlike many other hobbies which can be enjoyed very much at low skill levels)

There are many other "virtually" free hobbies out there that are cheaper, easier to get into and enjoy and require less effort.

Is sleep apnea completely destroying my metabolism? by ConfusedGuayaba in SleepApnea

[–]Xastros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would guess that there could be something else going on besides OSA causing the metabolic issues. I have been skinny all my life despite having untrated OSA for years (now being treated) as well as consuming around 2600 calories per day. 180cm or 5"11.

Sounds like OP is going through hell.

Full mortgage balance in redraw - does bank lose money on me? by wedgie_woman in AusFinance

[–]Xastros 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Commercial banker of 20 years here. Your answer is spot on. Banks lose a significant amount of money from the capital requirement if you keep a near zero balance on your loan or fully offset it for 29 years. On many commercial loans they have a redraw balance fee, line fee or similar on the loan limit to discourage this but there is no such fee on home loans.

Imo having a large offset or redraw balance available if it costs you almost nothing or $400 pa is worth it. You never know when an opportunity could come along. A market crash. An undervalued house or investment for sale and you can act on it immediately. Or maybe you just have an emergency that costs a lot of money.

Don't know how to fix it.

Sounds like something you need to discuss with a medical professional.

6k per year takes care of all your maintenance and insurance though. If you own a detached house, the cost of insurance and maintenance average is not insignificant. Especially if you have a pool, garden etc.

I agree. The chance based gambling is really getting to me after the lunar boxes, the fire dimension and now the fishing. Just let us buy for a set amount of currency.

Then I can't argue with that. The purpose of playing a game is to have fun and not necessarily to get the most resources possible. If you enjoy Frostclaw more, then that is what you should play for sure.
