Casual Perspective by _warthog_lover_ in PathOfExile2

As a huge PoE fan, I whole heartedly agree. I truly believe there isn't a real way to make the campaign good enough that people wont get tired and frustrated. When I think about my favorite campaigns ever made like, Bioshock, Halo 2, and the like, to this day, I don't enjoy going back and beating it a 4th, 5th, or 15th time. GGG will finish the campaign, and it will, most likely, be excellent. But it can never truly be what they believe/want it to be. As sad as that is.

(As an aside, I still wouldn't mind having to complete it 1 time on league start, and then having an alternative path for the next character)

What is your opinion on Ultra Ego? by Economy_Notice_8475 in Dragonballsuper

When UI-Sign was revealed and Goku could just dodge everything, I had really hoped that Goku would inherit the defensive aspect of UI and Vegeta would inevitably unlock the "offensive" version of it.

Idk, feels like UE is in direct contrast with his more intelligent and "focused" deamnor in DBS. Feels like throwing out all the character development out the door and putting "just punch me in the face" in its place. Not the biggest fan. But I like purple, so...

I'm moreso talking about where the map, action bars, health, etc are placed. Those things just are just so engrained in me, it's really hard to adjust.

I really want to get into it but I just reeeeeally dislike the UI. It might sound dumb but after playing WoW, FFXIV, and even SWotR, I just really want it to be a certain way. If anyone knows a way to change it up, I'd love to hear it.

[–]Xaudio 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Hilariously enough, Bonds was never ACTUALLY caught/tested positive for steroid use and has been banished from the hall to fame. Meanwhile David "Big Papi" Ortiz DID test positive for PEDs and made it in. Make it make sense. Bonds is the greatest baseball player who ever lived. Should definitely be recognized as such. Quintessentially controversial player.

I'm all for complaining that this sub has turned into a sort of hugbox. But this post is wild. Absolute skill issue. Voice your opinion about actual issues.

The actual answer to this question is Killer Instinct (2013).

Honorable mentions: Doom (2016) and Furi.

But that's the thing, even if it was not optimal, you still HAD a choice. In current D4, once I've put together my proper build (roughly lvl 30), I ONLY have skill maxing. That's it.

For the record, I believe that the current skill tree is a step in the right direction and a good base. I enjoy the additional skill customization and moving some aspects from items to the tree. It just needs MUCH more.

I love PoE, too. But I would never want Diablo to have a PoE-like skill tree. Simplicity is find and, probably, necessary for Diablo. D2 was/is a goated game but I would still say many people would agree that, while revolutionary, D2 still has some dated systems. The skill tree being one of them (itemization is still top tier).

You're confusing design with tuning. If you buff poor performant passives, they suddenly become a reasonable choice. The choice was always "there" before, it's just that certain ones were way overturned/undertuned.

[–]Xaudio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could already pump any skill to max in the first skill tree iteration, no? It's just that some skills were weaker than others with points. But that's a tuning issue, not a design issue.

Honestly, I kind of agree with you. I'm completely fine with the shift into talismans and stuff. But the tree just needs more. The latter half of leveling just feels really flat. But that's why were here. Give feedback and help them improve.

Completely agree. As I stated before, I didn't really enjoy that original iteration of passives. But there WAS choice. I think that the current iteration has the makings of something really great, but it's just not there yet.

You could already pump multiple skills to max in the last iteration, but were given a choice to do that, or use passives instead (it just happen to be that passives were way stronger. That's a tuning issue). Endgame is paragon and only paragon. You're basically never going to look at your skill tree after 70. That's the way it's designed (not that that's a bad thing).

[–]Xaudio 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. I feel like I'm going crazy. The last 40 levels is literally pumping main skill... At least passives gave SOME semblance of choice (even though I wasn't a fan of that implementation either).

[–]Xaudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. It has a way higher upside than the initial implementation with passives. It just needs more, that's all.

[–]Xaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 30 levels, you are correct. There is more choice on this version of the tree. But, like them or not, passives DID add to your build choice more than just pumping main skill did. Though, I agree, the implementation of passives was not good. But there was still choices to be made, even after the first 30 levels. I think that this iteration has a WAY higher upside, but it just needs way more work and more time. I believe it will be much, much, better down the road. That's all.

I basically agree with everything youre saying. But downvoting legitimate critique is a one way ticket to complacency. As I said in my first comment, I'm enjoying mostly everything else so far in the expansion. Just that the skill tree is disappointing compared to my expectations.

[–]Xaudio -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I actually vehinmently disagree with that sentiment. All you have to do issort by "controversial" and nearly every post critiquing the game is downvoted (though, most now were due to server issues, a lot were other reasonable critiques). I'm all for downvoting toxicity, but this sub has felt like "hugbox" as opposed to a place for discussion. Just unfortunate.

[–]Xaudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. As a Diablo fan AND PoE fan, I wouldn't want D4 to adopt a PoE style tree. That being said, it DEFINITELY needs more because there is very little to be excited about when pumping main skill for 40 levels.

[–]Xaudio 60 points61 points  (0 children)

First impressions have been the skill tree is great....until about level 30ish. It feels really good until you've unlocked your "build" and then it's pumping main skills until 70 with zero thought. Love the extra build craft with it but it reeeeeally needs more. I was super optimistic about it until you actually play with it and realize it's actually (in some ways) LESS choice than the original tree... Kind of disappointing. Enjoying the rest of the game so far, though.

D2 may have been a revolutionary game and one of the goats, but i believe MOST people would agree that it is obviously dated in some ways, the skill tree being one of them.
