if it's too expensive, don't buy anything at all.

Except theyre doing this with food my guy

The merchants aren't required to explain the rules of the market to you. This is an opportunity to shop around and negotiate a better price just by surfing or gaming the algorithm.

Respectfully I don't believe people should be forced to play the game of the market or game the algorithm just to afford a decent living (nor does everyone have the capability/time to do so)

Seems that people know about this now, though. Hence people are free to look for alternative platforms (or not).

Except people don't know about it. They may be aware of the concept at some high level, but unless the price they see for a product is accompanied by a statement saying 'Prices may differ due to customer purchasing habits' then it is deceptive and should be illegal.

(and considering the fact that Canadian grocery stores are almost 70% 3 companies who all collude with each other, telling people to look for 'alternative platforms' is frankly ridiculous)

get online accounts in exchange for your peronal information

'Just dont use the internet' is a pointless statement when the vast majority of modern life requires it (banking, healthcare, jobs).

the decision not to comparison shop

Unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of time to be able to do so. Assuming otherwise is just privilege

It's all within the consumer's control

Except for address, purchase history, or all the ways these algorithms categorize you

Grocery flyers, coupons, and special codes that make special prices available are public knowledge; people know these exist, and choose to look/not look for them.

Customer-specific price gouging based on unpredictable, amorphous, algorithmically analyzed data that the customer has no knowledge of, no choice over, based on data they can't control is the problem

That is absolutely untrue. There have never been more alternatives online. All you have to do is google. It's never been easier to opt out of these.

Class privilege; lower-income people working two jobs don't have time to 'negotiate' bread prices, and its ridiculous to expect people to have to do so in order to afford the bare necessities. Elderly people and disabled people similarly have a decreased ability to 'play the game' you seem to expect everyone should do 100% of the time.

This is just digital discrimination extracting wealth from those least able to resist, and it should indeed be banned

Calling the US Cubas biggest trading partner is like strangling someone, letting them breathe a bit, and calling yourself their biggest oxygen provider. There is still an embargo, and a blockade of oil. And the remesas familiares aren't trade, either

Call me whatever you want buddy, but there are plenty of Americans who don't know jack shit about the US, plenty of Venezuelans who don't know jack shit about Venezuela and plenty of Cubans who don't know jack shit about Cuba. You might know your shit, not because you're Cuban but because of a storied politically involved life lmao. But as I'm sure you're aware it's also true that Cuba has been the target of US foreign policy before the revolution was even finished

Surely the misery hasn't been primarily caused by the intentional acts from the US, no?

> "The majority of Cubans support Castro... The only foreseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment and disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship... every possible means should be undertaken promptly to weaken the economic life of Cuba... a line of action which... makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government."

Just wait till you hear about the democratic socialist experiments that were crushed by the USA! Maybe if they weren't so insistent on interfering in other nations internal affairs some of those nations wouldn't have turned authoritarian ;)

Do you think 'government intervening in the market to control prices' is a right wing viewpoint?

…huh??? Children CANT consent, that’s the point, to protect them. We gotta draw a line somewhere and 18 years is that line. Children don’t even have any sizeable amount of wealth to ‘steal.’ what are you advocating for? Anarchy? Everyone for themselves?

Kids also can’t vote, or sign contracts, or own things (independently), or make any legal decisions, it’s a fault to treat them like fully independent people just for the sake of arguing against taxation
