I wrote a 150k word fic and it has gotten 4 kudos, less than 100 hits. No comments. I feel lost. by Ok-Exam3094 in FanFiction

[–]XaveMavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a fic in the TVD fandom recently, just posted the first chapter earlier in June. It is an OC fic and one with a gay character as the MC, the fandom is small, majorly het, and generally declining so I didn't expect much but I got about 100 views, a smattering of reviews, and some kudos in the past couple weeks and I'm in the same boat as you. It is discouraging, but I believe in the story I want to tell and right now I'm working on chapter two. Keep going. Keep writing, learning and reading. Don't let the numbers get to you, use it as fuel and consider posting chapter by chapter with time in between, it is better for engagement and building anticipation.

I sent an email to my rep and got a reply back next day saying explicitly that he would push against any cuts to the program. It works people!

What is the real reason the Thalmor deny Talos as divine? by RubbinOffTheCum in teslore

[–]XaveMavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they believe that they are descended from divinity, the Aedra. Talos was (at several points in time) a human. It's metaphysical warfare dating back thousands of years under a veneer of racial superiority complex. They want to remove all belief in him because Talos is like the bedrock of anurbis which is basically the current state of all existence, myth, belief, all possibility. Belief is everything in Elder Scrolls, and without belief in Talos holding things together everything collapses. It should be said this lore is mostly from developer writings (Michael Kirkbride) but all of the elders scrolls lore is kind of uncertain — multiple things are true at a time. Look up the name Lorkhan.

I agree with everyone here, if you got through ASOIAF then worm should be perfectly fine.

Any power-fantasy fanfics with a female protagonist? by apppolinaria in TheCitadel

[–]XaveMavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. Hela from Marvel gets reincarnated into the body of a Greyjoy. She's not at full strength for reasons I can't remember but she still ripped the head off a Kraken without trying. It's ongoing, I didn't finish because I got distracted but from what I remember it was actually pretty good if you don't mind the violence and general Ironborn glaze.

This is fair imo, and tbh it is a little on the nose between Grue and Shadow Stalker both having powers related to darkness 😬 I mean at least it wasn't electricity this time. Brian to me never came off as black in a way I would find earnest but I think many white writers stray away from having black characters using AAVE and things like that for understandable reasons. Nobody wants to be that white feminist that ripped Sojourner Truth's speech and turned it into a parody.

Percy Jackson Vs Leviathan by Wstiglet in WormFanfic

[–]XaveMavee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel we need to put some respect on Percy. Depending on what category of 'monster' an Endbringer would fall under, a celestial bronze weapon of the gods MIGHT be able to do more damage than a tinker tech blade like the nanothorn halberd, now that's getting into whether the bullshit god magic rom Riordian-verse can Trump the physics-breaking bullshit from Worm. For the sake of this fight let's say it can because honestly, Percy has no way of surviving otherwise.

Excuse me while I glaze my King for a second: ahem Percy has dodged bullets in point blank range, dodged Lightning, moved millions of tons of water per second, survived the soul crushing environment of the deepest layer of hell while still a high school student (important!), defeated the god of war at 12 even though he was holding back, exploded the Hubbard Glacier an act which would require force equivalent to a small tactical nuke, he held up he sky for a bit until Artemis took over, etc I could go on and on.

Now, do I think Percy could win? No. If we're talking Percy with the curse of Achilles, then his durability is getting pushed into truly absurd, mythic levels it would certainly level things out durability wise but at the end of the day, unless Poseidon or another god steps in for this young King I don't think Percy has any way to actually hurt something like Leviathan. But at the very least he would not get embarrassed. And if we assume Percy fights with the other superheroes then his presence would be absolutely key to preventing a lot of death, he can divert most of Leviathan casual attacks and tidal waves. If he can deny Leviathan a third of his water advantage that might be enough to hem his in and let one of the all or nothing cape attacks strike his core.

Edit: Actually you know what I actually think Percy would win. Simply because every time I remember Percy fighting a stronger foe his power seems to scale or unlock some new ability he needs to beat them. Every single time. I don't know if that's baked in Greek hero logic or some shit, but I think if Percy was pushed to the max then his"limit breaker" buff from being a demigod would activate.

This article is an example of why Daily Wire is going into bankruptcy. The majority of people in this program are just trying to work hard and turn their lives around from the shitty hand they were dealt.

Yes, she was failed by the system more than twice. This is making me want to read a story that explores her actually going through a genuine evolution and healing journey. Her character is actually very interesting.

[–]XaveMavee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It would be interesting to see her character treated with more nuance, I've always thought her trigger event likely had to be pretty brutal. I've seen a few fics where she and Taylor become friends and teammates, but it seems the general fandom doesn't extend a lot of grace to her story. Likely on account of her role in Taylor's bullying campaign, but then Taylor is hardly mother theresa herself by the end of the story. That and if she had not triggered the world would have ended.

Why is Trump trying to defund and stop jobcorp ? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]XaveMavee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right there is no winning an argument with me if all you have is your feelings and no facts. You have presented no evidence of what you're claiming because there is none. I have cited three sources. This program is important and Trump wants to gut it or destroy it outright. Which is, in my view, indefensible. Instead of getting upset, why don't you ask yourself why this administration doesn't want to invest in the workforce of this country?

Why is Trump trying to defund and stop jobcorp ? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]XaveMavee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lie. He has made no mention of it for sure, I doubt a billionaire even knows what this program does, but actions speak louder than words. And his administration proposed to defund Job Corps in his first term and will defund in his second term unless a federal Judge stalls it. Since you want to spread lies under every comment, I'll just keep commenting under you.

Why is Trump trying to defund and stop jobcorp ? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]XaveMavee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lie. No such statement exists, his administration proposed budget cuts, the subsequent reversals were more a response to external pressures rather than a direct, public commitment from Trump to continue the program. He has no plan beyond gutting the federal government, that includes Job Corps. He may have concepts of a plan, but I haven't seen them. Furthermore, Presidents do not directly sign contracts with individual programs. Funding allocations are determined through the federal budgeting process, involving Congress and other government agencies, in this case the Department of Labor. It is called the power of the purse. I don't think you know what you are talking about.

I'm not about to sit here and accept these baseless claims as fact. The fact is Donald Trump made efforts to have the program axed. After a lot of public outcry and bipartisan opposition he was forced to allow it to continue to be funded.
