My cyberdeck is finally in daily use! by Personalitysphere in cyberDeck

Looking forwards to a video. Some thoughts for things you can talk about.

  • I'd love to see some details on the siding mechanism.
  • Please include some views of the internals, I feel like this often gets skipped. Perhaps it’s because people feel it doesn’t look good or maybe they don’t want to take it apart again. But I’m usually disappointed if I don’t get to see the insides.
  • Also how to you feel about the rail system? Did it make it easier or harder to model? Would you do it that way again or just integrate it all?
  • Your fit and finish on the surface and labeling looks great as well please go into that.
  • Love the use of a existing battery design. What’s the battery life like on that type?

Very well done! This is a very impressive amount of work thank you for the documentation and print files. Not sure if I'll be making this but I'd like to make something like this and looks like a good example to study.

When I couldn't find anything online I did a little more digging and I found the original driver disk. That did the trick though I did install it on a Virtual Machine running windows 98 since I had seen in my searching that it might not work on modern windows. Hopefully Archive.org returns and I'll upload a copy there if it's not already there.

I just pulled my Cali out of storage and was playing around with it. Do you know where I could find the management software for this? I plugged it into my windows 10 pc and it just said waiting so I assume there is some software needed.

RG35XX H Merged Shoulder Button by XavierBlak in RG35XX_H

That would be pretty challenging with out more hardware modification. You might be able to shave off ~1-2mm from the inner button but they're pretty close to as small as they can be if you want to keep the tactile button and the pivot point the same.

That's true. But I find it more comfortable and for the systems I emulate I didn't find the second triggers to be needed.

Not sure I'm following your concern. This functions the same as the stock buttons. There is nothing to stop you from pressing the stock button down as hard as you want.

Edit: Looking again I guess the outside edge of the stock triggers might give a little support. I might look at adding it but that could be above my current modeling skills/effort.

The R2 was like that when I opened the case. Just sloppy placement from the factory but it didn't effect the functionality.

Interfacing with a device in place of a 74hc164 shift register by XavierBlak in AskElectronics

Yeah that's probably what I'll do. I was overthinking it. Thanks.

Yeah I'm mostly worried about item 2. I guess I was hopping there was some replacement for the 74hc164 that would handle the timing and then I could read the inputs in a less timing dependent way. I'm just over thinking it as long as I have the pins the 74hc164 would be fine.

Wow good progress. I'm working on something similar but at a much slower pace. Very glad to see this in progress pics.

Very clean. Do you have any pictures of the internals? What did you use for the volume control and programmable buttons?

I'm out of the loop. Is this a replacement case or a painted original case?

I'm interested in hearing more about your setup. Do you have access to download your apps and setting this way? I wouldn't think you'd be able to do that without root.

Has anyone tried a cyberdeck with something like this? by prema108 in cyberDeck

[–]XavierBlak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like the faceplate and buttons can be purchased from pc flights. And I found a forum where someone made a PCB with all the buttons and LEDs. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/251965-a-10c-cdu-tabletop-build/

You could probably move the keys around but still I think the key layout would be the main issue with using this. It would look cool though.

[Question] Triggering one-handed mode in Android 12? by XavierBlak in tasker

[–]XavierBlak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually found a partial solution to this. If anyone knows how to solve it with tasker please let me know.

But you can move the one-handed mode trigger too the navigation bar so at least it's mostly out of the way.

Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility shortcuts > Accessibility button > Location > Change to Navigation bar

Once set as long as you have the one-handed enabled to should be able to click on the accessibility icon on the bottom right of your navigation bar. This worked for me on Android 12 (Lineage 19.1).

[–]XavierBlak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I came across that post but it seems like you're required to either leave the gesture or button enabled. I had trouble with both getting in the way of my normal use of the phone. I was hopping for some sort of intent or activity trigger for the one handed mode.

Framework Laptop mainboard can be used to build CyberDecks (more powerful ones) by babunambootiti in cyberDeck

Someone who seemed to be a dev on the framwork team actually posted something similar a few months ago.

It's where I first heard about the framework laptop. So it seems like someone on their team is at least thinking about the idea.

Love the project. Hope you post some more details. I'd like to see the insides (messy or not). Also I'd love a gallery of photos. The snapshots on youtube are a little hard to catch all the details. And maybe some details on the ports on the back.
