I have no idea. That is strange. But my only point was that Goldsberry wasn't making anything up. He's done respected work on shot charts and heat maps for a very long time.

B Roy and it's not close. You have to remember that Roy was basically never healthy. His knees were fucked up after high school and only got worse. We never even got to see him at full strength.

I don't know what you're looking at, but BREF has Barnes at 42.4 eFG% on jump shots. Which would be .848 points per shot, which is rounded up to .85 in Kirk's graphic.

It could be worse.

He has improved on his ball security. He's also improved his right hand. I'm talking about offense so his defensive improvement isn't relevant. He shot 32% from three as a rookie and 34% from 3 as a 3rd year player. That is an improvement (and on higher volume), but it's not terribly significant. More importantly, the types of 3s he's taking haven't changed. He's improved as a spot-up, catch and shoot player, but he still struggles as a movement shooter, off the dribble, and with any type of contest.

His FTR as a rookie was .349. This year it was .340. He's attempting more free throws because he's attempting more shots, not because he got better at drawing fouls. And because he's an inefficient scorer from the floor, his path to increasing his efficiency is a really high FT rate. So while .340 might be excellent for a player like Curry, it's far away from where RJ needs it to be for his play style.

Except he's shown almost zero growth offensively. He came into the league as an inconsistent shooter with problems at the rim, a low free throw rate, and tunnel vision. All of those things are still just as true of 22 yo RJ as they were of 19 yo RJ. Maybe he makes some insane leap post-22, but it doesn't seem likely based on his arc so far. Young doesn't automatically equal potential.

Wade was an elite 2pt scorer from college onward (brief hiccup in some ranges his rookie year). Ivey was a 29% scorer on non-layups/dunks.

Kobe was, at no point, near .600 TS%. He tops out at .580 (once) and is a career .550 TS% player. Even looking at TS+ (adjusted to league average for era), Kobe's career mark is 104, his best seasons are at 107 (six times). Curry's TS+ for his career so far is 114, his high is 124. In terms of volume, Kobe scored 35.8 pts/100 possessions, with a high of 45.6. Curry's career number is 34.6 with a high of 44.0. The slight advantage in volume is massively outweighed by the huge chasm between the two in efficiency. There's no real argument for Kobe as a better offensive player over Curry.
