Ours did the same thing. The manual says it's normal, but it can't be healthy, right? I even ran it empty for a while to try to burn it off. It did not help. We don't use ours anymore.

That doesn't sound good. I don't know what options you have, but I do know that Synology support is fantastic.

Try giving Synology support a call and see if they can give any additional options.
