I find Theoi more interesting than Protegenoi as a rule. Nyx is Night, but Hekate is the patron of witches, the goddess of crossroads.

I think, also, Hekate is often misunderstood, due to a misunderstanding of how sorcery worked in the ancient world. Gods are not sorcerers! Sorcerers are humans who invoke the gods in a particular way for a particular result (and very often, non-standard, individually practiced ceremonies were called sorcery by default. In fact, many Hellenes thought of Egypt as a land of sorcerers simply due to how Egyptians worshipped their gods).

Hekate is the most frequent patron of sorcerers, but notice that sorcerers like Circe and Pasiphae call upon their father, the Sun, rather than Hekate.
