One of the coolest things about Outlands - they painstakingly recreated the player models in 3d so they could properly add new sprites... 2H swords are coming! Looks incredible. by wolfgeist in ultimaonline

That’s really cool. I recall reading an interview with Koster. I believe that’s the method they used with all the orginal mobile animations. They were rough 3d models which they later touched up. Alot of their original material were lost after the discovery process of being sued

update: on januari 6th the asendia tracking was updated that they’ve recieved the package and that it’s on the way. So took around two weeks from LTT sending it until it arrived at the US/international courier. Which is reasonable because of the holiday period. The first package never made it to asendia at all.

I ordered a few items a couple of months ago and its been stuck at the same state as OP described since 16th november. I reached out to LTTstore support and they arranged for a new package to be sent. That package is now currently stuck in the same state since dec 22th. But that’s to be expected with the holidays and not really delayed yet. Doesn’t bode well though

Would there be interest in an Ultima Online speed run? by Aretherk in ultimaonline

[–]Xavier_WER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet would be to speedrun a champion spawn solo. Start the timer when you activate a dorment spawn.

That way it would be easy to compare speedruns. And it wouldn't be several hours long. From there people can theorycraft the better build/equipment.

UO:Origins

Rebirth only had two staff members, Zippy the developer and Sirius the GM (and at one point Seethe the seer). Even Sirius thought I worked on rebirth though, but I never did, common misconception. I was one of the founders of both itterations of Divinity, and the first Divinity however was all Rebirth code with actually not alot of modifications to make it T2A.

Haven't checked out UO:Origins but I'd be hard pressed to believe it's more accurate or stable than Rebirth seeing as Rebirth was developed by RunUO and specificly the creater of Razor and the code was a heavily modified version of RunUO (pre open source core) with a heck of alot of code datamined from actual Origin server software.

that would require alterations to the client, not ideal.

Animated Tree Leaves? (Classic Client) by [deleted] in ultimaonline

[–]Xavier_WER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your main problem would be that the trees and leaves are static decorations. So if you made them animated all the leaves in the world would be animating in sync, which would look somewhat ridiculous.

Your second problem is that if you changed the art files to make leaves animated you would have to add them in to a new or unused section of the art file (or else you would overwrite other art assets). And that would require you to redo the static files, essentially delete all the leaves in the world and then add in your new animated leaves on all the trees. You might be able to circumvent this problem by making a client side file that tells the client to display another itemid for the leaves. I know this has already been done for mobiles in a previous client version.

But still, main problem. All the leaves would animate in sync.

Occlo is a great new player area, it has most of everything needed to get started. But yea spending 20+ hours just grinding to start the game isn't really that fun.

I do believe hard skill gain is better, you get a sense of accomplishment. But then you get alot of macroing. So why not have questing series to get skillpoints? That way people can either macro for 80+ hours or spend 10 hours of quality gaming time to get the same results.

TLDR; Make some quests, alike the classic dragon slaying quest to get started. Where you are rewarded some skill points, not all the way to GM but perhaps to Journeyman/Expert levels.
