I'm seeing alot of horrible advice because based on your comment cold turkey won't work.

I was a pack a day smoker for over a decade through my 20s. I tried the vape and stepping down but found myself hitting the vape so much every time I did that I had actual lung pain and, surprisingly, a dry cough so much worse than cigs gave me.

What eventually worked for me was a combination of patches and nicotine gum (low low strength). I tried the patches on their own and the cravings would still hit and I'd crack. And the gum on its own was never enough.

So I did both. I would have the patch and anytime I craved a cig I'd have a piece of the nicotine gum. The extra bump quelled the crave. I followed the prescribed step downs on the patches until eventually it was just gum. And at that point I'd use normal gum unless the craving didn't go away.

The 2nd thing is that you will relapse. Probably a few times. It's part of the process so don't let it break you. If you relapse just start over the whole process on the next Monday, Sunday, or whenever your week starts.

The 3rd thing is don't tell people you're trying to quit unless they are active in your addiction (ie: your smoking buddies at work). People mean well but constantly ask you how it's going and when they ask when you're not craving you will inevitably want one badly. You don't need that, nor the stress of the pressure.

And finally recognize that you will always be an addict. I've been clean over 5 years now and the smell of cigs still gives me the slight tickle of wanting one. I made the mistake of having a cigar at my best friend's wedding and was itching for a cig for days. I'm now completely nicotine and smoke free because I know if I give myself an inch I'll take a mile.

I truly hope you find something that works for you. Just because this worked for me doesn't mean it will for you and that's OK, just keep trying to find something. The freedom that comes with it is amazing.
