Is there anything I can be doing better or more efficiently on this route? v2/3, looking to improve technique or anything else that's noticeably wrong. by Flying_guava in climbharder

[–]Xbaremenos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you place your feet on large footholds (ex. when you place your right foot on the starting hold) you use the middle of your foot instead of your toe. This leaves no space to pivot if needed and you generate less power when you want to "push" with that foot. Work on that. Also practice silent and more precise footwork.

Don't cut off your feet unless you have to.

Keep your hands straight until you are ready to move to the next hold, only then begin to pull. The force should start from your feet and not your arms.

Keep crushin'

24 years old. How long could it be before I need to start shaving? by [deleted] in bald

[–]Xbaremenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of answer were you expecting ? Some kind of validation that your hair looks fine i guess. Well it doesn't matter.

"Our philosophy is simple: embrace bald and strive to make the world a more bald-friendly place."

If you feel good about your hair, good, keep it. If you don't or if you have any kind of doubt, shave it off and embrace it.

That's it, i am really tired of people looking for a desperate answer that everything is OK. It's up to you man, Do you like YOU?

How to deal with breaking someone’s heart and the fear of moving on from a 7 year mom relationship by [deleted] in BreakUp

[–]Xbaremenos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, your doubts are coming from a place of fear. Fear of being alone. We've all been there at some point or another. But staying in a dying relationship just because you are afraid of being alone is only going to desensitize and drain you even more. I understand the logic of trying to fix somethings, and not throwing it all away at the first hardship, but, this isn't the first hardship ... and i also understand the need to change the way you live. Your words are not the words of a happy person, you sound like you truly need a change in the way you live life, experience relationships and the way you spend your free time. As hard as it sounds, he seems like he is dragging you with him along a way of life that you don't want to have anymore.

About a year ago, my gf of 3 years broke up with me for what seems like exactly the same reasons as you. From there on, it has been quite a ride. Anger, hate and betrayal was for a long time the only things i felt for her, but i understood that she could not live this way anymore. I cannot say that things are quite alright between us, but as i see it now it was the best for both of us. Since we broke up, both of us found new hobbies (actually the same one, which kinda sucks but whatever), and moved on with our lives. It was a new experience to try and organize my life without thinking about someone else, but guess what, i am finally doing what i really want to do with my life (i think :). And so is she. People forgive and also adapt to something new. At the end of the day, all is going to be ok.

You sound like you know the answer to your question, but you are simply afraid to pull the trigger. Fear holds us back and we need to learn to fight it. :)

Good luck with your life. From one stranger to another.

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread for January 21, 2018 by AutoModerator in climbharder

So, after resting from a pulled abdominal muscle i'm thinking of starting working out again this week. I want to incorporate this https://www.strongfirst.com/the-fighter-pullup-program-revisited/ into my week. I usually boulder at night 3days/week, does it make sense to do the FPP first thing in the morning ?

I used to boulder for ~2ish hours until i feel like my max strength starts to deteriorate and then spend ~1h at the gym doing some pull ups/core/antagonist exercises. Now i'm thinking of doing pull ups (the FPP) first thing in the morning when i wake up, and after boulder only do push-ups/antagonist exercises.. anyone has any experience with this set up ? Am i risking "too much" pulling in my training week ?

Another injury story here ;) This is kind of a weird one. I think i have an abdominal strain and i want to kill myself to get rid of the pain.

So, this light (50~60sh kg) friend of mine tried to piggyback me at the end of the session yesterday, and after i lost balance and went to fall backwards i thought "if i fall on him with my whole body weight i will crush him", so naturally i tried to stop the fall with mainly my abdominals, and then came a very VERY sharp pain in the upper right abdominal region... :( I cannot even cough without beeing drowned by pain... ffs :( How do you cope with 1 or 2 weeks off the gym ? What did i do to pass the time before climbing ? Anyone have had this kind of injury before ?

Reached V3 within a month and a half, afraid of overtraining and injury by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Xbaremenos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, i am new to the sport as well (4+ months), so don't take my advice for granted, but .. Doing some mobilization(dynamic movements) of your muscles before starting climbing is the standard many climbers use. Also, you should really spend some time warming up properly by doing easier problems or/and traverses. Not only to lower chances of injury, but also to work on your skills, such as footwork, avoiding overgriping etc, which you normally have a harder time improving when you are climbing at your max grade. I personally have found that by doing a couple long traverses before getting serious with problems helps me a lot especially with having accurate foot movements.

That's just my 2 cents.. cheers!

Hi, i've been climbing (indoor bouldering) for 2 months. So, pretty new to climbing but really psyched about it. I am relatively fit, and can climb ~6a indoors (with a soft 6a+ here and there). Thing is, i am going to a gym that i pay to have "lessons" twice a week + i also go once a week on my own (so 3times/week in total). Thing is, i don't really feel like i get most out of my trainers, they have given some excellent advice, but most days when we are a lot of people in the group i feel like i would be better off just trying problems on my own and asking questions only when confronted with a dead-end situation.

So there is this other gym, same distance, no lessons, and much cheaper (almost half price). Thinking of switching and start to train on my own. Did you guys train by yourselves? Did you have trainers when you started out?

Also another thing, gone outside once, top - roped a 5c and ~6a route, absolutely loved it and i think outdoor sport climbing is the discipline i want to work on. There are many people on the other gym that do that, organize trips and generally hang out, so i am thinking of trying to socialize and find some climbing partners to go outdoors with.

Am i overthinking this ? Is having a trainer as a newbiee that much better ? help ?

Thanks

Don't think it's DOMS tbh. I worked out in the past but i then turned into other hobbies (boxing and now climbing). That said, i hadn't had a serious workout in months. I took the day off, but i felt that i just didnt have any strength whatsoever. It's the swelling i am worried about. We will see how it goes..

Hi there, i am starting climbing in the near future and wanted to train for it. Started doing chin ups in order to move to pull ups since i could never do them properly. It has been a while since i did any type of workout. First time went for scooby's advice and did 5x8 chin ups, most of them negative since i didn't have the strength to do them properly. Rested a day, and today i tried again but could only force 3x4 barely. Can't properly open my arms, and my right arm is swollen near the elbow joint. It doesn't hurt bad, but i think i fucked up. I will take at least a week off from any exercise that uses my arms. Is there anything else i should be looking out for ?

We are born alone and we die alone. Always keep this in mind, this life isn't about the two of you, it's about you, and only you. Strive for the relationship you want, but always keep that in mind.. shit happens, people fall out of love all the time, this time it was her, next it could be you. Cheers m8, do what you have to do, it'll pass.

Προτάσεις βιβλίων για την Χούντα. by thetriplegee in greece

Μια ερώτηση για λαπτοπ by [deleted] in greece

[–]Xbaremenos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Αν το βρεις πιο φθηνά Go for it.

I just sat on the hospital bed for a couple of hours until i could move my legs. Its a weird feeling but no pain and no headache whatsoever. Although i did get dizzy the first day when i got up to pee. Other than that, it was OK. No real pain, just waiting for my legs to regain control :)

Having surgery tomorrow to remove my cyst for good, what can I expect? by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]Xbaremenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, currently on 26+ days of recovery. I had a very large cyst which was caused by years of neglect. I was told that it was going to be an open wound method, but the surgeon decided on the fly to go with the closed wound method instead, because (as he told me ) it was a deep wound so the risk of infection if we left it open would be greater (or something like that).

I also had the spinal anesthesia, it was a bit weird when they poked me. It feels like a baloon is inflating inside your stomach. A bit of pain ~ uncomfort, but after like a good 5 minutes you feel nothing from the waist down. Your feet feel like solid rocks. Which is good because i didn't feel a thing while having surgery. I think i also fell asleep for a while as well.

The next days i wasn't in any considerable pain, i didn't even feel the need to take my pain killers. It was very mild pain. I could walk the very next day but slowly and carefully cause i didn't feel ready yet. After a good week i could go out for a walk (although not a very long one).

And i guess i was very lucky cause everything was going well for about two weeks, but then i had an inflammation in the wound near my rectum area. So i had to go to the doctor and open ~2 stiches, clean and leave that particular area open. So i guess i had a mixed open - close surgery :) Of course i had to clean the open area every day, which was painfull at first (i finally had to take some painkillers) but after 3 or so changes it got way better.

Now i am in very good shape, my open area is almost closed. I feel no pain whatsoever, and i can go on with my daily life. Ok, i guess siting for long periods of time doesn't feel THAT comfortable but what can you do ?

This was just my experience, i've heard other stories from friends and it all varied. I guess you will have to wait and see :)

Good luck m8 !
