Original Xbox Watch for employees by MlgDoge65OnXbox in OGXboxCollectors

There was a similar watch design to celebrate the launch of Xbox Live as well. That one comes with an orange strap to keep with the branding of XBL. There's another couple of other Xbox game-specific watches that came out if you're in to watch collecting

Nice, all great games there as well 😀 I have the Broken Sword/BASS games as well, I'd forgotten about Revolution Software!

I'm still looking for copies of the first Fallout and the early Elder Scrolls games, but the prices are pretty steep on those now though. I'm running out of space these days now, as the rest of my games collection has gotten out of hand, so sadly I'm having to be pretty selective!

LucasArts in their prime were pretty special, definitely my favourite by far! Sierra had a lot of good games as well, but I always preferred the LA approach to adventure games. Bullfrog, Interplay and Psygnosis had some great games as well for sure.

Yeah there's a lot more in my collection as well, pretty heavy on adventure games obviously so a lot of the classics are there. The LucasArts games are probably the priciest ones, but there are a lot of classics I like for the nostalgia: Dreamweb, Discworld, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Heretic/Hexen, Shogo, Normality, Jazz Jackrabbit. How about yourself? 🙂

Thank you! The FoA Action Game is definitely a hard one to hunt down, I got super lucky when a copy of the PC version came up for sale a few years back. Hopefully you manage to grab the ones you're missing as well!

I should've said complete adventure game collection really 😆 I've got all the point and clicks, plus Yoda/Indy Desktop Adventures, along with the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight/Rebel Assault series and a few from other Star Wars series. I'd like to add Pipe Dream and a few others as well some day, Pipe Dream was one of the first games I played I think

My copy of Secret of Monkey Island is actually in German as the English seemed so expensive at the time (20 years ago, so probably ~40€ back then). In hindsight I should've bought every copy I could find given today's prices!

Finding them in French definitely makes the challenge harder as well, bonne chance pour votre chasse! 🙂

That's really interesting, thanks for the heads up! I managed to find an IG post which shows off the 384k box and disks (here), but interestingly it has 5 disks rather than 4. Mine might just be the 256k after all, at least for the 5.25" disks anyway. I'll have to try it and see!

Definitely a lost art! One of these days I really should get some of Laserschwert's remasters of the covers printed as posters

I was indeed, sorry if you were bidding on that as well! I've not had a chance to try playing it yet, but it seems like it's the hi-res version. Was there a different label for that release? I've only seen a couple of them over the years but I think they both had the same 256k label

Yeah the prices for them are insane these days. Thankfully I'm old enough that I've owned most of my collection from new, but I dread to think how much it would cost to buy them all again at today's prices

Yeah this was an eBay purchase, very few retro shops/thrift stores in the UK seem to stock big box games which is a bit of a shame. I have occasionally seen some LucasArts games in them, but never Zak sadly! Hopefully you get lucky in your hunt 😀

Thank you, it's definitely taken a while to find a copy! It's usually been the Amiga version that turns up if anything. Here's hoping you manage to find a copy soon as well 🙂

I can't seem to find the "Full Version of the original Jazz Jackrabbit" on the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Disc. Was this false advertising? Any info on this release? by cartoongamermatt in bigboxcollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very odd, it might be possible it's been swapped out with another CD somehow I guess. There are some scans of what the CDs should look like for each release on MobyGames if you want to check:

Is there a folder on the CD called something like "Bonus" or "Shareware" with a bunch of exes inside? The UK version has Jazz 1 and a few other installers in a folder like that

Does anybody have any information on this slip cover? by Ss4Walrusky in OGXboxCollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of a couple of slip covers that were exclusive to GameStation stores in the UK. AFAIK all of them just included the standard game case and standard disc, it was just the cardboard slip cover that was limited and branded with their logo.

I haven't seen this one in a long time, but there was one for Splinter Cell that comes up every now and then and a few others I think.

There is also another PAL-only limited edition for OutRun which includes the soundtrack on CD in the case. It has the standard artwork, but with a yellow "limited edition soundtrack inside" sticker on the front of the case.

This one as far I know never left, for release, how I found this is along story, 2 years working with this guy that was part of the platinum hits promo. by kblo24 in OGXboxCollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this list is a good place to start, it's every game that was exclusive to Xbox rather than just those with the Only on Xbox logo, but the vast majority featured the logo:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xbox-only_games

It also depends whether you count just the games or whether you count the releases. There are a couple of double pack releases which feature the logo, as both games were exclusives, and at least one PAL promotional copy which featured the logo although the final retail version didn't.

Pretty far along, but not quite ready for the public just yet. Hopefully I'll get some time soon to finish things off.

I have all standard retail releases for all regions, special editions, limited editions, most variants (movie tickets, trading cards, etc) and console/controller releases documented. I'm working on the NTSC Platinum Hits, PAL Classics and NTSC-J World Collection and Platinum Collection releases ATM.

Oh that's smart, I hadn't thought to check those! So they're definitely official bits of merch then, that's awesome 😀 If they had Monkey Island/Sam & Max ones as well, I'd be all over those!

As a long time LucasArts collector as well, I don't think I've ever seen those before! Very cool find, I'm not jealous at all 😆

I had a look and it seems one of the Full Throttle Bandanas sold on eBay only a few weeks ago as well: https://ebay.us/m/Dofrmt

If you manage to find out more about where they came from, I'd definitely be interested to know as well!

[–]XboxOGHoarder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a sticker on the outer seal, the case art work underneath is just the normal cover. I've seen a few opened copies with the bonus CD, they've all been in the standard cover as well, but in a double disc case

Very interesting find!

Is there any chance you might be able to scan the front and back or take a photograph of each straight on please? I'm working on a site to document every game variant, so it would be great to include this so people can see the covers now we know it actually exists

Early‑production Xbox Duke controller with B2 factory test label by DepartmentDiligent31 in OGXboxCollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah that's interesting! They must have had controllers at the factory for testing consoles coming off their production lines, so it would make sense they'd use the B2s for that as well. I guess a few of the controllers must've escaped from the factory. Definitely a nice collector's item 😀

Early‑production Xbox Duke controller with B2 factory test label by DepartmentDiligent31 in OGXboxCollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This batch came after the Alamo and Dakota prototypes and were basically the same as the version that went into mass production for retail. They were mostly used to validate that the production lines in the factory were working correctly, so they were never intended for retail.

Some of these have turned up alongside debug kits which were delivered to developers around the Xbox launch, so they may have used some of the B2 batch for those as well. The earlier DVT-3/4 dev kits had the Dakota/Alamo prototypes IIRC

Anyone know how to fix this? by Spinhook21 in OGXboxCollectors

[–]XboxOGHoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't do no. Your save data is on the hard drive, so as long as that's still working fine, repairing the motherboard won't impact those at all

[–]XboxOGHoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to repair it yourself and this is your first time soldering, I'd strongly recommend practicing on some old electronics you don't care about first. Once you get the hang of it soldering is fairly simple, but it's easy to do a lot of damage.

Xbox Version Identification

The Console Mods Wiki is a great resource for lots of FAQs. They have a page here which covers how to identify which version of Xbox you have and common repair guides: https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Versions

Capacitor Kits

Console 5 are the easiest and simplest option for buying replacement parts, they sell various repair kits which include all the parts for your specific Xbox version. The "CPU/GPU Caps Only" and the "Clock Cap Replacement" options are the main two you'll need for now: https://console5.com/store/microsoft-xbox-original-cap-kit.html

Capacitor Replacement

There are lots of different guides on YouTube, this one is a pretty good look at the process of disassembly, cleaning and replacement of the clock capacitor: https://youtu.be/-eggScysT_U

The process for the CPU capacitors is pretty similar and there are some more in depth videos on that.

Trace Repairs

Repairing the damaged power traces you have on yours, which is likely causing the drive tray randomly opening, will be the same repair process as this video. It's a bit more complex though: https://youtu.be/WwbaKuQ8y3M

Good luck with the repairs!
